# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Southcott

Never start the engine. While the fuel is still inside that tank and your engine has not turned over, a tank drain is nearly always all it requires — and that is decided in the following few minutes, not by how much got in. Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans misfuelled cars where they stand, across Southcott and the remainder of Wiltshire, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a drive.

Phone before all else happens, so you will see what happens from there.

## Your next five minutes: petrol in a diesel

- Don't start the vehicle. Fired up regardless? Then never rely on it. Diesel in a petrol motor typically can't run, so the person stops and the wear halts with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It idles. It moves off fine, for a few miles. People get that muddled. It isn't fine — your fuel system is wearing every mile you drive.

- Flicking your ignition on usually primes your system, and priming is what moves petrol out of the tank then into your pump and injectors. Those are the parts diesel keeps oiled on its way through, before it ignites. Petrol manages the burning and none of the protecting. Leave the ignition off.

- Don't thin it. Diesel added on top removes nothing, so all you have is more of what was already there, since percentage is not how a diesel fuel system handles petrol. Super unleaded? Simply petrol. The octane makes no difference.

- Stay put if it is wise to. Hazards on, ignition off, leave the vehicle. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on Swan Meadow, anywhere — a difficult spot for us trumps a started diesel, and nothing is simpler for us to sort than a vehicle that never moved.

- Our van arriving instead of circling depends on two things: a postcode beginning SN9 5, and whatever is nearest to you with a sign on it. Have both ready before you call.

- Call 0333 366 0103. Prepare for three queries — what got in, roughly how many litres, plus whether the motor has been run. The responses settle everything that follows.

## Clearing petrol from the diesel on the forecourt

A large part of this work is done at a pump, since that's where it often kicks off.

We work on garage forecourts routinely, with the station's consent, and so if you are still at Esso that's normally where the drain gets done.

Before the engine has fired — the forecourt is the only setting this is caught.

The few seconds between seeing the till receipt and going for your key settle how much needs flushing. Everywhere other than the forecourt — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — the vehicle was switched on and moved to get there, so fuel was sucked from the tank, through the filter and into your high-pressure pump. That means your lines and the filter require flushing as well as that tank. It's not a disaster, and our technicians can still sort it out where your car sits.

Out from the petrol pump, the next customer can get through — so yes, let the attendants help you roll the car. Well worth it.

Starting it just to move four vehicle lengths is not.

We are in car parks like the one at Co-op Food all the time, and it is rarely your fuel that complicates them. It is the bay. Vehicles both sides. Trolleys stacked up behind. Sometimes a height bar at the way in, which determines if a van reaches you at all. So say how boxed in you are when you phone, and which way the vehicle is facing. If there is no room to work beside the BMW 3 Series, our engineers move it without the motor. That isn't pedantry over a few seconds: starts prime things, mixture comes out of that tank toward your pump, and a motor shifted twice for a nicer space is silently a worse job than one nobody touched.

## Do our engineers cover your side of Southcott?

Being a residential suburb, Southcott sees a frequent visit, whilst the places close by go along on the same trip: Kings Corner and Swan, Pewsey and Kepnal, Knowle.

Our technicians still come. Those names above are only the closest neighbours, and a page is there for most places in Wiltshire, so an absence from the list is not an absence from the coverage.

On a boundary, or anywhere the satnav misreads? Phone and check instead of presuming.

Use the map for the ground shown on this page.

Every bit of that is territory our engineers work: a kerbside, a forecourt, a private drive, a car park. You don't drive your car anywhere.

## Stuck by the kerbside near Southcott

The chance to pull over anywhere safe doesn't come to everyone.

Hazards going at a lay-by somewhere, or stopped on the verge of Hurly Lane because you realised after setting off — we take that call often enough that it is the normal kind.

Stay by the motor if it is sensible to be inside, and clear of it if it's not.

It will frequently oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along quite willingly, and that's the trouble: fire it up to reach somewhere better and the mixture goes further into the system with every mile travelled.

We'll bring the van to a tricky spot without any fuss, and for the car that's much better than driving on.

You drive off at the end, once our engineers have fired it up and checked it runs correctly on fresh diesel, with the system primed. Before that, in the car park outside The Coopers Arms, the tainted fuel comes out of your tank, the lines get cleaned and the fuel filter comes off where your Nissan Qashqai has a replaceable one. Everything begins with three questions when our technicians get to the vehicle: what went in, how much of it, and whether it has been started since.

## Petrol in a diesel, but your car has travelled

under 15 miles from Southcott, the local M4 is what counts now.

Some distance along, and onto it in the first place: a misfuelled diesel will often manage both before anything feels wrong. What you get then is rarely a tidy stop. Power falls away, the idle gets uneven, and there may be some smoke.

Take the next junction that is safe, stop there, and don't restart the car to reposition.

It changes what our technicians bring, and so tell us when you ring: on a longer drive — anything approaching the under 25 miles to the closest city — assume the petrol has been through your filter, your pump and the injectors.

Never drive it home to buy yourself time. You already have it: nothing gets worse while your car waits, because a diesel Mercedes E-Class left at The Schotchel is doing none of what it did on the way there. The pump has stopped turning.

## A little about Southcott

Southcott is a suburban area situated on the riverside in Wiltshire, with a mix of detached housing and a population of around 1080 residents. Southcott sits at an elevation of 115 metres, near the villages of Kings Corner and Swan, and is approximately 18 miles from the city of Salisbury. Southcott is also within commuting distance of London, being around 71 miles to the west of the capital. Southcott has a relatively small and dispersed community, with Pewsey being another nearby settlement.

## Our call-out around Southcott, step by step

- Three things get checked before any price — your fuel that was put in, the quantity, and whether anything has been run since. Each answer changes the work.

- The polluted fuel is pulled from the tank.

- Lines cleaned, filter cleared. Whatever remains afterwards isn't the thing that caused the issue.

- Your system gets bled, on new diesel.

- Our engineers start the car and check it runs properly on clean diesel.

Then it's ready to drive away.

There's no need to go to a garage at any point, because the work is all done where your car is, and when it's caught early, lasting damage is very uncommon.

## Southcott AdBlue removal is a different problem

Don't fire it up: that opening step applies whether what went in was AdBlue or petrol. What changes is the fault itself.

Petrol weakens your diesel and strips the protection your fuel system depends on.

Corrosion and deposits are what a diesel tank ends up with instead, since AdBlue is urea dissolved in water.

Often the more serious of the two, AdBlue — and the full story lives on its own Southcott page. Both are ours to handle.

Switch off where you have stopped, and do not start it to find somewhere better — near King Alfred or anywhere at all. Knocking, an uneven idle, white smoke and a limp throttle are a misfuelled diesel Ford Fiesta telling you what's wrong.

## Paying for a petrol-in-diesel drain around Southcott

One number would not be honest here, because this isn't one job. These are the things that move it:

- Has it been started or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.

- How much of the wrong fuel got in, judged against how much your tank takes.

- AdBlue or petrol, whichever got in.

- Where the vehicle is, and if a technician can safely get to and work on it.

Tell us what the car is, how much went in, and if the motor has run. A firm answer comes back, not a range.

Not time-critical, with the vehicle at home and going nowhere? Then is fine.

No dashboard light exists for this, which is why motors in that position generally get driven a second time before anybody rings. Do not be one of them. The throttle went dead and the idle turned uneven after a couple of streets, and your diesel Vauxhall Insignia is now sitting by Pewsey Heritage Centre. Softness there means fuel that cannot build pressure fully instead of a motor packing up. Turn off. Phone us.

## Petrol in diesel questions from Southcott drivers

## I'm on a forecourt in Southcott. Can you drain the vehicle here?

Much of what we do happens nowhere else. So yes.

Tell us which one you're at when you call and we will tell you if we can work there. With the owner's consent our technicians visit another forecourt nearby and the other forecourts locally regularly.

## Is there a sensible amount of petrol in a diesel?

Proportion decides it instead of litres — and more than either, whether the engine has run.

Five litres in a nearly empty tank is a different matter from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that settles how much work is needed is if that mixture has been drawn through your fuel system.

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven the car

Stop somewhere safe, switch off, and leave the vehicle off.

Not restarting it is the single most helpful thing available to you now. Driving does shift the problem out of the tank and into your pump and injectors, yes, and it stays salvageable a lot more often than people expect.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

A drain and flush carried out properly is not an alteration and doesn't void a manufacturer's warranty.

A dispute over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it switched off.

## Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

No. Two-stroke oil is an old workaround for a distinct problem and it doesn't restore what petrol has weakened.

The pump still has to put up with it, as your tank still has petrol in it afterwards.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

There's no need to take it to a dealership, as we drain and clean the car wherever it is.

## Is the car still with you?

Keep the car switched off.

If you have already driven it, pull over somewhere sensible, switch it off and keep it off.

Cold, stationary, going nowhere: that's the best place to be in. People fear this much more than they need to.

Across Wiltshire and in Southcott: mobile fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the kerbside.
