# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Stanground South

Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrong-fuelled vehicles where they are, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a driveway, across Stanground South and the rest of Cambridgeshire. The first thing to do is not to start the engine. When the motor has not yet turned over and the petrol is still in your tank, a tank drain is almost always all it requires, and the coming few minutes settle that, not how much got in.

One call our way will be enough: we can explain what comes from here. Try it first.

## What to do first about petrol in a diesel

- Give a petrol motor diesel and it will generally refuse to run at all, so the person stops there and so does the damage. Give a diesel petrol and the car starts, it idles, it drives off — fine enough for a couple of miles. Motorists have that reversed, which is the thing they get wrong about petrol in a diesel especially. So do not crank it. And if started, never depend on it: the fuel system is wearing as you drive.

- Flicking the car's ignition on commonly primes that system, and priming is what carries petrol out of that tank then into your pump and injectors. Those are the parts diesel keeps protected on its way through, before it burns. Petrol does the burning and none of the protecting. Leave your ignition off.

- Never pour diesel on top to thin it. A diesel fuel system will not cope with petrol by percentage in the way that guidance implies, and topping up clears nothing — it just hands you a fuller tank of the same mixture. The type makes no difference either: super unleaded is simply petrol.

- A motor that has not moved is the quickest one to deal with, so stay where you are if you sensibly can. Parked on the verge on Bellona Drive? Hazards on, and leave the car there. A difficult spot works for us better than a started motor.

- Get your whereabouts prepared before you phone. A postcode that starts PE2 8 and whatever is nearest to you with a sign on it is the difference between a van turning up and a van circling.

- Three replies shape the whole call-out: the liquid you poured in, the approximate volume of it, plus whether anything has been going since. Our number is 0333 366 0103.

## Removing petrol from a diesel on the forecourt

A large chunk of this work is done at a forecourt, as that is where it mostly begins.

If you are still at the forecourt at Morrisons, that is usually where the drain happens — our technicians work on station forecourts regularly, with the owner's consent.

No place other than the forecourt can this be halted with your engine still unrun.

We can still sort it out where it sits, even away from the pumps. In a car park, on a driveway or in a lay-by, your car has been switched on and driven there, and that sucked fuel through the filter then into the high-pressure fuel pump, right from that tank. None of that is a disaster, although the flush then has to reach past your tank to the lines and your filter, and the few seconds between checking your receipt and reaching for your key are what settle that.

The attendants will normally offer to move it out from the petrol pump so the next motorist can get through. It is worth doing.

Moving the car four lengths does not merit firing the engine.

## Service near Stanground South

These same trips take us to Stanground, Farcet, Old Fletton, Kings Dyke and Hampton Hargate as well as Stanground South, which is a residential suburb.

We still come. The names above are just the nearest neighbours, and a page is there for most towns around Cambridgeshire, and so an absence from the list is not an absence from our coverage.

Near the border, or anywhere the satnav struggles with? Ring us to enquire instead of guessing.

The patch the page includes sits on our map.

Every bit of that is ground we cover: a kerbside, a forecourt, a private drive, a car park. You do not drive your vehicle anywhere.

Put diesel in a petrol vehicle and mostly it will not run, and so the person stops there and the damage stops with them. Swap it — petrol into a diesel — and the thing fires up, ticks over and pulls away as though nothing had happened, while your high-pressure pump works without the protection the fuel is meant to be supplying. That's the snag, and it is why the diesel Peugeot 308 will have felt completely usual coming back from Saint Michael CofE Primary School. They all do. From behind the wheel there's nothing to alert you about, so nothing warns you. Phone with roughly how far you went, and how hard; the second one counts more than the first.

## Stanground South: stuck where you pulled up

A chance to pull in somewhere sensible does not come to everyone.

Set off, then realised? Ended up by the verge of Apollo Avenue, or parked in some lay-by with the hazard lights going? That's a routine call here. Not an odd one.

Wait beside the car while it is sensible to be in it, and out of it if it isn't.

It will frequently oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along quite willingly, and that's the trouble: fire it up to get to somewhere handier and that blend goes further into your fuel system with every mile travelled.

We will send the van to an awkward spot without any bother, and for your car that is far better than driving on.

Straightforward job, this one — till somebody drives it home. A diesel Nissan Qashqai sitting at Apple Cart with petrol in that tank loses nothing by standing there overnight, and so leave it then phone us once it is light. Expect a question about the trip there, though. Short and chilly is precisely where petrol fails to burn, and what will not burn can work past the piston rings then into the oil.

## Petrol in a diesel, but the motor has travelled

This is where the A1(M) comes into it — under 5 miles from Stanground South.

A misfilled diesel will frequently get you onto it and some way along before anything seems wrong, while the signs when they appear are normally lost power, a rough idle and some smoke instead of a neat stop.

Get off at the first safe junction, turn off, and do not start the car to move it.

It changes what our engineers bring, and so say so when you call: on a longer trip — anything approaching the under 3 miles to the nearest city — assume the mixture has been through your filter, your pump and the injectors.

Never drive it home to buy yourself time. You already have it: nothing gets worse whilst the car stands, as a diesel Audi A4 left at Heritage Park is doing none of what it did on the way there. Your pump has stopped turning.

## A little about Stanground South

Stanground South is a suburban area located near Peterborough in Cambridgeshire, sitting at an elevation of around 13 metres above sea level. Stanground South is characterised by its predominantly semi-detached housing stock, with the area being close to nearby places such as Stanground, Farcet, and Old Fletton. Stanground South is situated approximately 2.2 miles from Peterborough city centre and about 71.8 miles from London.

## What follows when we reach you around Stanground South

- Three things get checked before any price — your fuel that was put in, the amount, and if anything has been run since. Each answer alters the work.

- Out flows the polluted fuel.

- We purge your fuel lines and clear your filter, and so what's left in the fuel system isn't what created the problem.

- The fuel system gets bled, on new diesel.

- Our technicians turn it on and confirm it runs smoothly on clean diesel.

At that point it's ready to pull away.

Our engineers do everything wherever your car has come to a stop, which means it never needs to go to a workshop, and if it has been caught soon, it's very uncommon for there to be long-term damage.

About as well as this goes, once the motor has turned: away from the pumps, receipt read, and the diesel Dacia Duster parked by Cardea Community Sports Pavillion barely two streets on. Phone us, then leave the vehicle off. A short drive does genuinely help. It was still a start and still a drive, though, and so the fuel filter and your pump have had diluted fuel through them — hence rinsing the fuel lines rather than only clearing that tank.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank by mistake, in Stanground South?

AdBlue instead of petrol? Then the first rule is unchanged — the motor remains off — while this issue under it's a separate one altogether.

Petrol does two things to diesel: dilutes it, and takes away the lubrication the system relies on.

AdBlue is urea dissolved in water, and in a diesel tank it leads to corrosion and build-up in its place.

Often the more significant of the two, AdBlue — and the full story lives on its own Stanground South page. Both are ours to handle.

Authorisation first, where there's a hire firm or a company behind your car — some contracts insist on it, and settling that beforehand saves a great deal of time later. After that, ring us about the diesel Vauxhall Astra by St Michael & All Angels. You'll not know how full your tank was. Barely anyone does, two days into a motor, and it gets worked out on site regardless. We ask because the damage petrol does in a diesel is proportional: a few litres in an almost empty tank make a much stronger mixture than the same few in a full one, and since petrol is built to resist igniting under pressure, which is exactly what a diesel relies on, the stronger it gets the more your engine rattles and smokes and flattens off.

## Budgeting for a petrol-in-diesel drain in Stanground South

What shifts the price is laid out below, since this job is not one job and we can't frankly put a single figure on this page.

- Started? Driven? Either answer counts more than anything else on this list.

- How much of the wrong fuel went in, judged against how much the tank can hold.

- Which got in: unleaded or AdBlue.

- Where the car is, and whether a technician can sensibly reach and work on it.

A straight answer rather than a range is what you get for telling us three things: your car, the amount, and whether it has run.

For the car at home that is going nowhere and is not urgent, is fine too.

## Petrol in diesel questions from Stanground South motorists

## I'm on a forecourt around Stanground South. Can you drain the car here?

Yes, and it's where a good share of this work takes place.

Often, provided the site consents: Applegreen, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether our engineers can work in that spot is something we answer there and then.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Proportion decides it instead of litres — and more than either, whether the engine has run.

Five litres in a nearly empty tank is a different matter from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that determines how much work is needed is if that blend has been pulled through your fuel system.

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven the vehicle

Pull in somewhere safe, turn off, then keep the car off.

Driving moves the trouble along — out of that tank, into the pump and injectors. People fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one genuinely useful thing left to you isn't restarting it.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

It's not a modification, so a drain and flush carried out properly doesn't invalidate a manufacturer's warranty.

What's likelier to start a dispute is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more reason for the engine to remain off.

## Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?

No. Two-stroke oil is an old fix for a separate fault and it does not replace what petrol has thinned.

Petrol remains in that tank afterwards, whatever else goes in, and the pump gets no respite from it.

## A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — necessary?

Not at all. Our engineers drain and flush the vehicle wherever it is, so there's no need to bring it to a dealership.

## Still with your car?

Shut off is the way it remains.

Already driven it? Then pull over somewhere safe, turn off, and let it remain that way.

A still, cold motor is the best place to be in, and this is recoverable from a lot more often than drivers expect.

Call-out fuel draining around Stanground South and across Cambridgeshire — at the kerbside, on the forecourt or at home.
