# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Sticker

If you have not fired up your engine as yet, do not. A drain and nothing more is nearly always what a vehicle requires while the petrol is still inside that tank and your engine has not run, which is why it's the following few minutes that matter, not how much was put in. Petrol in Diesel comes to the car wherever it has ended up in Sticker or the remainder of Cornwall, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a private drive, and drains and flushes it there.

Call us before anything else begins, so you'll know what comes next.

## What to try first about petrol in a diesel

- Feed a petrol engine diesel and it will usually fail to run at all, so the motorist stops there and so does the wear. Feed a diesel petrol and the engine starts, it ticks over, it drives off — all right for a couple of miles. People have that backwards, which is the bit they get wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. So never fire it up. And once started, never depend on it: that fuel system is grinding as you drive.

- Turning your ignition on often primes the system, and priming is what draws petrol out of your tank then into your pump and injectors. Those are the components diesel keeps lubricated on its way through, before it combusts. Petrol does the burning and none of the lubricating. Leave the ignition be.

- Don't pour diesel on top to dilute it. A diesel fuel system won't handle petrol by percentage the way that guidance presumes, and topping up takes out nothing — it only gives you a bigger tank of the same mixture. The grade makes no difference either: super unleaded is still petrol.

- We'd sooner drive to an odd spot than have it started — so if you sensibly can, sit tight. Nothing is quicker to handle than a motor that has not shifted. On the verge on St Stephens Road, that means hazards on and leave it.

- Know where you are before ringing. A postcode that starts PL26 7, and the name of whatever is closest to you. Otherwise the van circles rather than turning up.

- What was put in, approximately how much, and whether the motor has run — these three replies settle the whole visit. Ring 0333 366 0103 then tell us.

The run in is what pulled weakened diesel through your pump. Sitting still has drawn nothing. Petrol in a diesel Renault Megane, left outside St Austell all day, rests idle in the tank whilst it waits. Ring us first — before the keys come out.

## Can petrol be pumped out of your diesel at the forecourt?

Forecourts are where the job often starts, and where a big part of it finishes.

Still at EG On the Go? Then that is usually where it takes place. Petrol station forecourts are everyday for us, with the permission of the owner.

A forecourt is the one setting this is spotted before your motor has fired.

Fuel drawn out of that tank and through the filter, right to your high-pressure pump, is what happens when the engine is switched on and your car is moved to where it is now: the car park, the private drive or the lay-by, anywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush takes in the fuel filter and the fuel lines together with your tank. That's still not a disaster, and our engineers deal with it where the car sits. What determines it is whether the key was turned in the seconds after the receipt was read.

Move the car out of the way if the staff suggest it, and they generally will. The next driver gets through the petrol pump, and that is worth doing.

Four car lengths is not worth a restart.

## Sticker plus the towns beside it

As a rural village, Sticker sees a steady visit, and the places round about go with it on the same round: Lower Sticker and Paramoor, Trelowth and Hewas Water, Little Polgooth.

If yours is not on that list it does not mean we don't come — there are pages for nearly all locations across Cornwall, and the ones named above are simply the immediate neighbours.

Contact us to check rather than guessing — borders above all, and wherever your satnav can struggle with.

The patch this page includes appears on our map.

We work at the roadside, at forecourts, on driveways and in car parks across all of that, and your car does not need to move to us.

Move the car out of that gateway and sort it out later — that's what someone will say, and it's wrong. Parked on the zig-zags at St Mewan Community Primary School, a misfuelled diesel Audi A4 is an inconvenience and nothing worse. Started three more times for courtesy, it is no longer a tank fault but a fuel system one, as priming happens with every start and more petrol goes through the filter towards your pump. Let them complain. Give us a call.

## Broken down at the roadside around Sticker

Not everybody gets a suitable spot to pull over.

If you noticed after setting off and ended up on the verge beside Retanning Lane, or in a lay-by somewhere with your hazards on, that's a normal call for us instead of an unusual one.

Whether you stay by your car or step away from it turns on whether staying nearby looks safe.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol draws the blend further into the system — and oblige it often will, which is why the engine doesn't get restarted to limp somewhere handier.

A technician coming to an awkward spot is no bother for us, and it is far better for the car than pressing on.

Try the journey home from Hewas Inn? Don't. It will fire up and it will move off just fine, which is the problem — a diesel on a weakened tank behaves typically while grinding the parts the fuel should be protecting. Leave the Ford Focus then phone us.

## So you've driven it? Petrol in a diesel over some miles

Your M5 is the road that counts here, and it runs over 50 miles from Sticker.

A misfuelled diesel will usually get you onto it and some way along before anything feels wrong, while the signs when they arrive are generally a drop in power, an uneven idle and smoke instead of a neat stop.

The first sensible junction is the one to take. Switch off there, and leave the restarting alone.

Long drive? Anything close to the under 15 miles to the nearest city and you should presume the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of that reached by the contamination. Say that on the phone, because it changes what goes in our van.

## A little about Sticker

Sticker is a small village in Cornwall, situated inland at an elevation of 83 metres, approximately 10 miles from the city of Truro. Sticker has a population of around 819 people and is characterised by predominantly detached housing. Sticker is located near other small settlements such as Lower Sticker, Paramoor, and Trelowth, in the Cornish countryside. Sticker is about 221 miles west of London, in the South West region of England.

## What follows when we get to you in Sticker

- Three things get asked before any quote — the fuel that was put in, the quantity, and if anything has been run since. Each answer shapes the work.

- The tank is drained of it.

- Fuel lines are cleaned through and the fuel filter cleaned, leaving nothing in the system that started any of this.

- Your system gets primed, on new diesel.

- It is run with clean diesel in it, and our technicians make sure that it's running smoothly.

The car is then ready for you to drive away.

There is no need for a workshop at any stage, as the work is all done where the vehicle is, and when it is spotted soon, lasting damage is very rare.

About as well as this goes, once the engine has turned: away from the pumps, receipt read, and the diesel Peugeot 3008 parked close to St Mark Mission Church hardly two streets on. Phone us, then leave it off. A short drive does really help. It was still a start and still a drive, though, and so your filter and the pump have had thinned fuel through them — hence rinsing your lines instead of only emptying your tank.

## Sticker AdBlue removal is a distinct job

AdBlue instead of petrol? Then the opening instruction is unchanged — your engine stays off — while the fault under it's a separate one altogether.

Petrol does two things to diesel: thins it, and takes away the lubrication the system relies on.

Urea dissolved in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that causes rust and build-up.

Our engineers cover both, and AdBlue removal in Sticker has its own page with the detail — including why it's frequently the more serious of the two.

Turn off where you have stopped, and never start it to find somewhere better — by Polgooth Methodist Church or anywhere at all. Rattling, a ragged idle, white smoke and a dead throttle are a misfuelled diesel Mercedes E-Class telling you what is wrong.

## Sticker prices for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain

Our technicians can't put one figure on this page honestly, since this job is not one job. What shifts it:

- Has it been started or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.

- How much of the wrong fuel got in, against how much the tank takes.

- Which got in: petrol or AdBlue.

- Where your car is, and whether a technician can safely reach and work on it.

Tell us the vehicle, the amount and if it has run, and you will get a clear answer instead of a range.

For your car at home that is going nowhere and is not pressing, is fine too.

## Things our engineers get about petrol in diesel in Sticker

## I'm on a forecourt in Sticker. Can you drain the vehicle here?

Yes — forecourts are where a large share of this gets done.

Regularly, provided the site agrees: Texaco, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether our technicians can work in that location is something our engineers answer there and then.

## A few litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Ratio settles it rather than litres — and more than either, whether your engine has run.

Five litres into an almost dry tank isn't five into a full one, no. But both land on the same question in the end: has that mix been pulled right through, or has it not?

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven the car

Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that.

It's recoverable much more often than people assume, even though driving is what takes the problem from the tank into your pump and injectors — and the single most useful thing you can do now is not restart it.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

A manufacturer's warranty survives a drain then flush done to a correct standard, which is no change at all.

Another reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause an argument with one.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

No. Two-stroke oil is an old remedy for a distinct problem and it doesn't replace what petrol has weakened.

Afterwards? Still petrol in the tank, and a pump that has to put up with the stuff.

## Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?

Wherever your car is, our technicians drain and clean it there, so a drive to the main dealer doesn't come into it.

## Is the vehicle still with you?

Keep the car turned off.

If you have already driven it, stop somewhere safe, switch it off and leave it off.

Cold and still, a car is in the best place available — and motorists fear this far more than the recovery rate warrants.

Across Cornwall and in Sticker: on-site fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the kerbside.
