# The Next Steps, in Order: Petrol in a Diesel Car in The Park

Not for a moment, and not to move it: the motor stays off. Stop there.

Hasn't been run? Then petrol in a diesel tends to be a simple drain-and-flush job wherever the vehicle has stopped — and nothing settles that as much as the next few minutes do.

What follows is the order from here, anywhere around The Park you happen to be.

## Motor off: minute one with petrol in a diesel

Do the following before anything else, in this sequence.

- Take the keys out. Even the ignition by itself can prime the system, pulling petrol out of the tank to precisely the parts it harms, and so leave the vehicle alone wholly.

- Topping up with diesel sounds like it dilutes the problem. It doesn't: nothing gets out, and the tank just carries more of the same.

- Make your car easy to see first — hazards on — if there is moving traffic anywhere near you.

- Off the petrol pump by hand. At a forecourt, ask the attendants to help you roll it away from the petrol pump. Do not start it to shift it, however short the way.

- Hold on to your receipt: the fuel and roughly how much are written on it, and they are what our technicians ask for first.

Noticed on the move? Get off at the next junction if you're on the M5, under 3 miles from The Park, and stop somewhere sensible — not at the services further on. Step one comes after that.

## Each The Park fuel drain starts here: has your motor run?

From this stage on, everything comes down to a single answer.

Engine never run at all?

- No place but the tank: that's where that petrol still is.

- The job is a simple drain and a flush, normally done where the vehicle stands.

- No position is better, and it's why the first step counts so much.

If it's been started, even for a second:

- Some petrol has left your tank by now, passed through the fuel filter, and got into the lines.

- Run it farther and the petrol gets to the injectors, having passed through the fuel pump first.

- Lines flushed, the filter dealt with, and sometimes more: this job expands as the miles does.

That line falls there since diesel protects the high-pressure fuel pump and the fuel injectors on its way through them — and petrol doesn't.

Petrol sitting in a tank damages nothing.

Petrol being pumped is wearing the parts that move the vehicle.

## The Park, petrol in a diesel: have these ready before you call

A little planning is the difference between a van that finds you and a van that circles.

- Your whereabouts: a postcode starting GL50 2 serves best.

- Give the road — The Park or wherever you have stopped — or the car park.

- What a car park serves is the easiest way to find it, so say the landmark — like the one outside Co-op Food.

- The car. Make, model, plus that it's a diesel.

- Petrol or AdBlue? Tell us which. They are separate jobs, and AdBlue has a separate The Park page.

- How much. Litres from the receipt, or how long the nozzle was in the filler.

- Whether it's run. Then if it has, how far and how hard.

- Whose vehicle it is. Some hire and company agreements want the owner to approve the work, and that is quicker settled before we get there than after.

Phone 0333 366 0103 next. Writing to works as well if it can wait, with the vehicle parked at home, going nowhere.

## The Park fuel drain on its way? While you wait

Help, however well meant, is what does the damage while you wait. So stick to these.

- Your safety comes before the vehicle. Somewhere dangerous? Get away from the traffic then wait away from it. Safe where it sits? Stay with it.

- No one starts it. Not a passer-by being helpful, not to check it is all right, not to roll the car a couple of yards.

- Additives stay in the boot. Injector cleaner and two-stroke oil take none of that petrol out a second time.

- A DIY drain leaves your fuel that has already gone beyond that tank, and siphoning petrol by the road is dangerous too.

- The ignition remains off. Even for your radio or your windows.

## The fuel drain, step by step, once the van gets there

- The price comes after three queries, not before them — what got in, how much, and if it's run — because those answers set the job.

- Then your tank is cleared, so the contaminated fuel comes out.

- The lines are rinsed. If it ran, the petrol has shifted beyond that tank, and the lines are carrying it.

- Where your car has a usable filter, it is replaced; otherwise, cleared.

- Clean diesel in, and your system primed.

- The first start on clean diesel. When priming is complete, the engine is started and we make sure that it runs smoothly.

The vehicle has new diesel running through it before we head off.

The vehicle returns to normal use right away, and long-term damage is very rare when it has been caught soon.

## The Park, after the fuel drain: back on the road

- Nothing special is needed after a start with fresh diesel — ordinary driving is all.

- Pull over and call us back if anything looks wrong early on — a light on the dash, smoke from your exhaust, an idle that runs rough, or a throttle with a dead spot.

- An insurer, a fleet manager or a hire company may ask what was carried out, so hold on to the documents.

- Next time, read the petrol pump. The label, not the colour of its handle.

## About The Park and where it is

The Park is a suburban area in Gloucestershire, situated on the riverside near Gloucester. The Park sits at an elevation of around 75 metres, with terraced housing being the predominant type of accommodation. The Park is located near other suburban areas such as Tivoli, Montpellier, and Leckhampton, and is approximately 7 miles from Gloucester city centre.

## The Park and nearby: fuel drains across the area

Tivoli, Montpellier and Leckhampton are served by the same vans that take petrol in diesel jobs around The Park — and so is most of Gloucestershire beyond.

If you are near a boundary or somewhere hard to explain, ring and ask instead of assuming.

## Ring, and leave the vehicle off — petrol in a diesel in Gloucestershire

Petrol in Diesel takes it from there — on your driveway, by the kerbside, on the forecourt — once you've done stage one: keys out, motor off, receipt in your pocket.
