# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Tulloch

Never start the motor. If the petrol is still sitting in the tank and the engine has not yet run, a tank drain is almost always all it takes — and that's decided in the coming few minutes, not by how much got in. Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans misfuelled vehicles where they are, across Tulloch and the rest of Perth and Kinross, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a driveway.

One ring to us will be plenty: we can show you what comes next. Do that right away.

## Petrol in a diesel: what to do next

- Whenever you drive, the pump and the injectors wear. That's why you don't crank it, and why you never trust it once it has started. The catch about petrol in a diesel especially — the bit people get wrong — is that it drives away normally for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol motor usually can't run at all, which stops the driver and stops the damage with them. This one lets you drive on.

- Leave your ignition alone too. Diesel does two tasks: it burns, and before it burns it lubricates that high-pressure pump and those injectors. Petrol handles the first and not the second. Flicking the ignition on is commonly all it takes to prime that system, which moves that petrol out of the tank then into exactly those components.

- That advice supposes a diesel fuel system handles petrol by percentage. It doesn't. Add diesel on top and nothing at all is cleared; what you get is a larger tank of the same blend. And no, the octane makes no difference — super unleaded is just petrol.

- Stay still if it is wise to. Hazards on, motor off, keep the vehicle. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on Mathieson Drive, anywhere — a difficult location for us beats a started engine, and nothing is quicker for us to deal with than a car that never shifted.

- The van turning up instead of circling turns on two things: a postcode beginning PH1 2, and whatever is next to you with a label on it. Get both prepared before you call.

- What got in, approximately how many litres, and if your car has run — these three replies decide the full job. Ring 0333 366 0103 and tell us.

Never run it home. The journey in has already sent a real quantity of petrol-thinned diesel through the high-pressure fuel pump of your Volkswagen Golf, and the trip back would more or less double it for no reason at all. Phone us from the platform if that's simpler. Our technicians never need you standing over the vehicle at Perth while our engineers get on, and our team would far rather talk to you tonight than realise on Monday.

## Forecourt draining for petrol in a diesel

It starts at a forecourt, generally. Regularly the job wraps up there too.

We operate on garage forecourts all the time, with the site's agreement, and so if you are still at BP that's typically where the drain happens.

Nowhere else other than a forecourt can this be halted with the engine still unrun.

Fuel drawn out of that tank and through your filter, right to the high-pressure pump, is what occurs when your engine is started and the car is driven to where it is now: the car park, the drive or the lay-by, everywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush covers your filter and the fuel lines together with your tank. That is still not a catastrophe, and our technicians deal with it where the car sits. What determines it is whether the ignition was reached for in the seconds after the receipt was checked.

Away from the pump, the next customer can get through — so yes, let the staff help you push it. Worth it.

Firing it just for four vehicle lengths? Don't.

## Areas our vans reach around Tulloch

Tulloch is a residential suburb, so our vans go out to the town and to anywhere around it on the same trips: Letham, Muirton, Ruthvenfield, Hillyland and North Inch.

Not on the list? That means nothing. The places above are only the closest few, and the majority of locations in Perth and Kinross have a page of their own somewhere on the site.

Close to the border, or anywhere your phone misreads? Ring us to ask instead of assuming.

That map marks the patch the page includes.

The car does not need to move to us. We work over all of that — kerbside, forecourts, driveways, car parks.

## Tulloch: broken down wherever you stopped

The opportunity to pull over anywhere safe doesn't come to everyone.

Set off, then realised? Landed by the verge on Maxton Place, or stuck in some lay-by with the hazard lights flashing? That is a common call here. Not an odd one.

Clear of your car when it isn't safe to wait in it, by it when it is.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol draws that mix further into the system — and oblige it often will, which is why your engine doesn't get restarted to limp somewhere handier.

We'll send our van to an inconvenient location without any bother, and for your car that's much better than driving on.

Park it overnight. Phone us first thing. Nothing about a diesel Mercedes C-Class sitting in the parking area at The Maltings worsens as it waits, tank of petrol or not, and the job stays a simple one right up till the moment it gets taken home. The question our technicians come with is about the drive there: a cold motor over a short distance is where petrol burns least well, and whatever fails to burn can get past the piston rings into the oil.

## A couple of miles on petrol in a diesel: what next?

under 3 miles from Tulloch, the local M90 is what counts now.

A drop in power, a lumpy idle, smoke: those are the signs when they arrive, rather than a neat stop — and a misfilled diesel will frequently get you onto it and some way along before anything feels wrong at all.

Take the next junction that's safe, stop there, and do not start it to reposition.

It changes what our technicians bring, so say so when you phone: on a longer run — anything close to the under 3 miles to the closest city — assume the mixture has been through your filter, your pump and the injectors.

Here's the whole mechanism. Diesel needs enough body to seal the close gaps it goes through, and petrol takes that away. That is it. Which accounts for the usual Seven Acres call — a diesel Peugeot 3008, out there without a murmur and back down on power, rough at idle, possibly a bit of smoke. Injection systems work hydraulically as well as chemically, and so your fuel has to hold pressure and not just burn; weakened, it bleeds past those tolerances and not building, and delivery comes poorer, later, less even than the motor was built about. Not a failing motor, though. Fuel that has stopped behaving like diesel. Put that right and it stops.

## Tulloch itself

Tulloch is a suburban area situated on the River Tay in Perth and Kinross, with a mix of residential and recreational spaces. Tulloch lies close to the city of Perth, approximately 1.5 miles from the city centre, and is near other local communities such as Letham and Muirton. Tulloch has a relatively low elevation of around 19 metres above sea level, reflecting its riverside setting. Tulloch is home to around 4814 people, with a predominance of flat-type housing.

## What happens when our technicians get to you in Tulloch

- The answers alter the work, which is why our engineers ask before giving a price: what was put in, how much of that, and if the engine has run.

- Out flows the tainted fuel.

- Our engineers clean your fuel lines and clean your filter, and so what's remaining in the fuel system isn't what caused the problem.

- The fuel system gets primed, on clean diesel.

- It is fired up with new diesel in it, and we check that it's running properly.

After that it is ready to pull away.

All of it is done where your car is, so it never has to go to a workshop, and when it has been caught quickly, long-term damage is very uncommon.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Tulloch is a distinct job

Never crank it: that opening step stands whether what was put in was AdBlue or petrol. What changes is the fault itself.

Petrol does two things to diesel: dilutes it, and strips out the protection the fuel system relies on.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Pour that in with your diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus residue.

Usually the more serious of the two, AdBlue — and the full story lives on its own Tulloch page. Both are ours to handle.

Authorisation first, where there is a hire firm or a company behind your car — some contracts demand it, and settling that beforehand saves a great deal of time later. After that, ring us about the diesel Citroen C3 near a street just off the centre. You will not know how full the tank was. Barely anyone does, two days into a motor, and it gets worked out there anyway. We ask because the damage petrol does in a diesel is proportional: a couple of litres in a nearly empty tank make a much stronger mix than the same few in a full one, and since petrol is designed to resist igniting under pressure, which is exactly what a diesel relies on, the stronger it gets the more your engine rattles and smokes and flattens off.

## How much is a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain in Tulloch?

Truthfully, no single price belongs on a page like this. The job changes. Here is what changes it:

- Started? Driven? Either answer matters more than anything else on this list.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel got into it.

- AdBlue or petrol, whichever went in.

- Where your car is, and whether our van can safely reach and work on it.

Tell us the vehicle, the quantity and whether it has run, and you'll get a firm answer rather than a range.

For the vehicle at home that's going nowhere and is not pressing, is fine too.

By now your tank is the least of it. Run a diesel and that blend goes into the filter, into the lines, into your pump, into the rail — and none of that leaves with the tank contents. A diesel Kia Sportage that got near Tulloch Park needs its circuit cleared. Draining is not the same thing.

## Tulloch drivers ask us these about petrol in diesel

## At a petrol station around Tulloch, can you do a fuel drain there?

Plenty of what our technicians do gets done nowhere else. So yes.

Tell us which one you're at when you call and we will tell you if our technicians can work there. With the owner's consent our technicians work at Tesco and the other forecourts locally regularly.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Proportion decides it rather than litres — and more than either, whether your engine has run.

A nearly empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: distinct scenarios, certainly. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is whether the fuel system has had that blend sucked through it.

## Already driven it with petrol in your diesel? Now what?

Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that.

Not restarting it is the single most helpful thing available to you now. Driving does move the trouble out of that tank and into your pump and injectors, yes, and it stays fixable a lot more frequently than drivers fear.

## Will a fuel drain void my warranty?

No. Carried out correctly, clearing and flushing is no change at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is unaffected by it.

Another reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause an argument with one.

## Two-stroke oil in your tank, and then home?

No. Two-stroke oil is an old remedy for a different issue and it doesn't restore what petrol has thinned.

Later on? Still petrol in the tank, and a pump that has to cope with the stuff.

## Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

Wherever your car is, we drain and flush it there, so a trip to the main dealer doesn't come into it.

## Still with the car?

Do not switch the car on again.

Switch it off somewhere safe then leave it off, if you have already driven it.

Cold and still, a vehicle is in the best place available — and people fear this a lot more than the recovery rate warrants.

Mobile fuel draining around Tulloch and throughout Perth and Kinross — at the kerbside, on the forecourt or at home.
