# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Uxbridge?

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrongly fuelled vehicles where they are, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a private drive, across Uxbridge and the rest of Greater London. The very first thing to do is not to start the motor. When the engine has not been started and the fuel is still in the tank, a fuel drain is nearly always all it needs, and the following few minutes settle that, not how much got in.

Our engineers can tell you what the next stage will be. Call us — it goes before everything else.

## What next? Petrol in a diesel, step by step

- Don't crank it — and never trust it if it does start. That is the thing most people get wrong about petrol in a diesel especially. A petrol motor fed diesel generally just cannot run, so the person stops and the wear ends with them. A diesel fed petrol usually starts, idles and drives away quite happily for several miles. It isn't fine. It's wearing that fuel system while you drive.

- Flicking your ignition on usually primes the system, and priming is what carries petrol out of your tank and into the pump and injectors. Those are the components diesel keeps protected on its way through, before it ignites. Petrol handles the burning and none of the lubricating. Leave the ignition alone.

- Do not pour diesel on top to thin it. A diesel fuel system doesn't cope with petrol by percentage as that advice suggests, and topping up clears nothing — it just gives you a bigger tank of the same mix. The octane makes no difference either: super unleaded is simply petrol.

- A motor that hasn't shifted is the quickest one to handle, so wait where you are if you safely can. Stopped on the verge on Windsor Street? Hazards on, then keep the car there. An awkward spot suits us better than a started engine.

- Get your whereabouts ready before you ring. A postcode starting UB8 1 and whatever is nearest to you with a sign on it is the difference between a van turning up and the van circling.

- What was put in, about how much, and also if the motor has run — those three replies settle your whole visit. Call 0333 366 0103 then tell us.

Never drive it home. The journey in has already pushed a real volume of petrol-thinned diesel through your high-pressure pump of that Renault Clio, and the drive back would about double it for no purpose at all. Ring us from the platform if that's simpler. We don't need you standing over the car at Denham whilst our technicians get it done, and our team would very much rather talk to you tonight than discover on Monday.

## Can petrol be taken from your diesel on a forecourt?

Pumps are where the job often begins, and where a big share of that closes.

Still at Esso? Then that is typically where it takes place. Station forecourts are everyday for us, with the agreement of the station.

Before your engine has fired — a garage is the one setting it is stopped.

The few seconds between seeing the receipt and reaching for the keys decide how much needs rinsing. Anywhere other than a forecourt — a car park, a private drive, a lay-by — the car was fired up and driven to get there, so fuel was drawn from the tank, through the fuel filter then into the high-pressure pump. That means the fuel lines and your filter need rinsing as well as that tank. It's not a catastrophe, and our engineers can still deal with it where the vehicle sits.

Staff will usually help out pushing it out from the petrol pump, which lets the next driver get through. Welcome the help.

Starting the car just to roll four vehicle lengths isn't.

Petrol in your Skoda Octavia, and it takes diesel? Shopping in the boot, you at Lidl, somewhere in Uxbridge? Then phone us, and leave your engine out of that — not even to leave that bay. A technician heads your way. Tank emptied, fuel lines rinsed, fresh diesel in, and home you go. Gentle throttle over a mile pulls hardly anything, and so these are often the easy cases.

## Areas we cover in Uxbridge

Uxbridge is a small village, and our team are out to it and to the villages by it on those same journeys: Uxbridge Moor, New Denham, Cowley, Hillingdon and North Hillingdon.

Our engineers do come. The places above are only the closest neighbours, and a page exists for the majority of places across Greater London, and so an absence from the list is not an absence from our coverage.

Presuming is the habit to resist, especially on a boundary or somewhere your satnav struggles. Ring us to enquire.

The area the page covers appears on our map.

We work roadside, on forecourts, on driveways and at car parks across all of it, and your vehicle does not need to come to us.

## Stranded by the kerbside near Uxbridge

Not everyone finds a sensible place to pull in.

Hazards on at a lay-by somewhere, or pulled onto the verge on High Street because you noticed after setting off — our technicians take that call often enough that it's the usual kind.

Clear of the vehicle when it isn't wise to sit inside, beside it if it is.

Don't fire up your engine to limp the vehicle somewhere safer — a diesel running on petrol will often oblige, and every mile it obliges for is dragging the blend further into your fuel system.

However tricky the location, it is no bother for us to come to it, and that is a lot better for your car than driving on.

You set off at the end, once our technicians have fired it up and made sure it runs smoothly on fresh diesel, with the system bled. Before that, in the car park at Queen's Head, the polluted fuel comes out of the tank, the lines get cleaned and the filter comes off where your Nissan Qashqai has a serviceable one. It all begins with three questions when our technicians get to the car: what got in, how much of it, and whether it has been fired up since.

## So you've run it? Petrol in a diesel after a couple of miles

under 3 miles out of Uxbridge, the local M40 is what counts here.

A misfuelled diesel will often get you onto it and some way along before anything seems wrong, while the signs when they come are normally lost power, a rough idle and smoke instead of a tidy stop.

Take the first exit that is sensible, pull up there, and never start it to reposition.

It changes what our technicians bring, so mention it when you ring: on a longer drive — anything close to the under 25 miles to the nearest city — take it the petrol has been through the fuel filter, the pump and the fuel injectors.

## Uxbridge itself

Uxbridge is a locality in northwest Greater London, situated on the River Colne and Grand Union Canal. Uxbridge sits at an elevation of 46 metres, approximately 15 miles from central London, and is surrounded by nearby places such as Uxbridge Moor and Cowley. Uxbridge has a population of around 4765 people, predominantly residing in flat-type housing. Uxbridge is also close to the neighbouring area of New Denham.

## When our technicians get to you around Uxbridge: what we do

- The replies change the work, which is why our technicians ask before giving a price: what went in, how much of it, and if the engine has run.

- The tainted mixture comes out of the tank.

- Fuel lines are flushed through and your filter cleaned, leaving nothing in your system that started any of this.

- We pour fresh diesel in and prime the system.

- It is fired up with clean diesel in it, and our technicians make sure that it is running properly.

That has your car ready to set off.

There's no need for a workshop at any stage, since the work is all done where the vehicle is, and when it's caught quickly, lasting damage is very unusual.

Off the forecourt, receipt read, a few hundred yards, left near St Margaret's. For a diesel Dacia Duster whose motor has turned, that's about the best version there is. Phone us, then let the car stand with your ignition alone. Short assists, really — but a start is a start and a drive is a drive, and the fuel filter has had diluted fuel through it, and so has your pump. Which is why the fuel lines get flushed and not just the tank cleared.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Uxbridge is a separate matter

Never crank it: that first rule applies whether what got in was AdBlue or petrol. What changes is the fault itself.

Petrol dilutes the diesel and strips the lubrication the fuel system depends on.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Tip that in with your diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus deposits.

AdBlue removal in Uxbridge has a page of its own with the full story on it, including why it is often the more serious of the two. We cover both.

## Uxbridge prices for a petrol-in-diesel drain

One figure would not be honest here, as this is not one job. These are the things that change it:

- Whether the engine has been started or driven. This is the main one.

- How much of the wrong fuel was put in, set against how much your tank can hold.

- AdBlue or petrol, whichever went in.

- Where is it? And can our van get to it and work there safely?

A clear answer instead of a range is what you get for telling us three things: your car, the amount, and if it has run.

Motor at home, going nowhere, nothing time-critical about it — is fine for that.

Someone confident will tell you to drain it then put fresh diesel in. Half right, that. Try it on a diesel BMW 5 Series close to Marks & Spencer and your engine will start — which is exactly why it sounds like sense. Here is the trouble: there's petrol left in your filter and the feed lines, and the first thing your engine does is pull it back through the pump again. Draining a tank achieves nothing about fuel that already left that tank. Phone us. Your system gets flushed, the filter comes off where there's one worth removing, and that is what separates a fixed car from one that only starts.

## Petrol in diesel: everyday queries around Uxbridge

## At a petrol station around Uxbridge, can you do a fuel drain there?

Yes — forecourts are where a good part of this gets done.

Consent from the site is the condition. Given that, a forecourt like another forecourt nearby is somewhere we are frequently, along with the rest of them locally — so name yours on the phone and you'll hear if working there is possible.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Proportion decides it rather than litres — and more than either, whether the engine has run.

An almost empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: distinct scenarios, of course. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is whether your fuel system has had that blend pulled through it.

## Already driven it with petrol in your diesel? Now what?

Switch off somewhere safe, then keep it that way after you stop.

Driving is what shifts the problem from your tank into the pump and injectors — but it's recoverable much more often than motorists fear, and the single most useful thing you can do now isn't restart the vehicle.

## Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

A manufacturer's warranty survives a drain and flush done to a proper standard, which is no alteration at all.

A dispute over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it turned off.

## Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

No. Two-stroke oil is an old fix for a separate problem and it does not replace what petrol has thinned.

Petrol stays in that tank later, whatever else goes in, and your pump gets no break from it.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

Not at all. Our technicians drain and flush the car wherever it is, so there's no need to take it to a franchised dealer.

## Still with your vehicle?

The motor remains off.

Turn it off somewhere safe then keep it off, if you have already driven it.

Cold and stationary, a car is in the best place available — and drivers fear this a lot more than the recovery rate warrants.

Across Greater London and in Uxbridge: call-out fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the kerbside.
