# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Wardley?

If you have not started the engine yet, do not. A drain and nothing more is almost always what a car needs while the petrol is still sitting in that tank and the motor has not been started, which is why it is the next few minutes that matter, not how much was put in. Petrol in Diesel goes to the vehicle wherever it has stopped in Wardley or the remainder of Tyne and Wear, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a drive, and drains and cleans it there.

Just one ring to us will be plenty: our engineers can explain what follows from here. Try this straight away.

## The first five minutes: petrol in a diesel

- Feed a petrol engine diesel and it will normally not run at all, so the driver stops there and so does the wear. Give a diesel petrol and the car starts, it idles, it moves off — fine enough for a couple of miles. Drivers have that muddled, which is the bit they get wrong about petrol in a diesel in particular. So do not crank it. And once started, never depend on it: the fuel system is wearing whenever you drive.

- Flicking your ignition on usually primes that system, and priming is what moves petrol out of your tank and into your pump and injectors. Those are the parts diesel keeps protected on its way through, before it ignites. Petrol manages the burning and none of the protecting. Leave the ignition alone.

- Topping up gets rid of nothing. It leaves you a larger tank of the same blend, since a diesel fuel system will not cope with petrol by percentage as that advice implies — so do not add diesel on top to water down it. Grade is immaterial too: super unleaded is petrol.

- Our team would sooner travel to a tricky location than have it started — so if you sensibly can, sit tight. Nothing is simpler to sort out than a motor that hasn't shifted. On the verge on A184, that means hazards on and keep it.

- Know where you are before phoning. A postcode starting NE10 8, and the name of whatever is next to you. Otherwise the van circles rather than showing up.

- Three details determine your whole call-out: the fuel you poured in, the approximate amount of it, plus if it has been going since. Our line is 0333 366 0103.

## At a forecourt: clearing petrol from the diesel

It starts at a pump, usually. Quite often the job finishes at one as well.

The drain usually happens right there. Still on the forecourt at JET? Given the owner's permission, that is a place we work, and routinely.

A forecourt is the single location it can be caught before your motor has run.

Fuel drawn out of your tank and through the fuel filter, right to the high-pressure fuel pump, is what happens when the motor is started and the car is moved to where it is now: the car park, the driveway or the lay-by, everywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush takes in your filter and the fuel lines as well as the tank. That is still not a disaster, and our technicians put it right where the vehicle is. What determines it is whether the key was reached for in the seconds after the till receipt was checked.

Attendants will generally help out pushing it clear of the petrol pump, which lets the next customer get through. Take the assistance.

Moving the car four spaces doesn't merit starting the motor.

Straightforward, these ones, and the reason is the distance: a mile at light throttle pulls very little diesel. Petrol into a diesel Renault Clio somewhere around Wardley, a boot loaded with shopping, and you sat outside Bestway Cash & Carry — ring us. Leaving the bay isn't worth another start. Your tank gets cleared where it waits, the fuel lines flushed, clean diesel in, and you get home.

## Wardley plus the places near it

Follingsby, Leam Lane, Bill Quay, Pelaw, Fellgate — all of these on the rounds that carry us over to Wardley too, a residential suburb.

Not on the list? That means nothing. The places above are only the nearest few, and the majority of towns around Tyne and Wear have a page of their own somewhere on the site.

Close to the border, or somewhere a satnav misreads? Contact us to ask instead of guessing.

This map shows the patch this page spans.

Every bit of that is ground our engineers cover: a roadside, a forecourt, a drive, a car park. You never bring your vehicle anywhere.

Hazards on. Ignition off. Ring us. It is twenty to nine outside White Mere Community Primary School, you're late, and the till receipt shows unleaded — and although three miles in your BMW 3 Series sounds like nothing, fuel gets metered on demand, and a rushed run asks for plenty of it.

## Kerbside stops across Wardley

Not everybody has a safe place to stop.

A common call for us instead of a rare one: noticed after setting off, finished up along the verge of Felling Bypass or at a lay-by with your hazards on.

Sit by the vehicle while it's sensible to wait in it, yet out of the vehicle when it isn't.

Do not restart it to reach a nicer location. It'll go — a diesel on petrol usually obliges — and each mile of obliging drags the mixture deeper into your fuel system.

We will take our van to an inconvenient location without any fuss, and for your car that's a lot better than pressing on.

You drive off at the end, once our engineers have started the car and made sure it runs correctly on clean diesel, with your system primed. Before that, in the car park outside The Green Bar & Brasserie, the contaminated fuel comes out of the tank, your lines get rinsed and the filter comes off where your Peugeot 308 has a serviceable one. Everything starts with three questions when our technicians reach the vehicle: what was put in, how much of it, and whether it has been fired up since.

## Driven it already? Stop, then read this

The A194(M) is the road that counts now, and it lies under a mile from Wardley.

A loss of power, an uneven idle, some smoke: those are the signs when they come, rather than a tidy stop — and a misfilled diesel will frequently get you onto it and some distance along before anything seems wrong at all.

Pull off at the next sensible junction, switch off, and do not restart it to reposition.

Presume the worst of it on a long run. Anything near the under 5 miles to the nearest city, and the petrol has been through your filter, through the pump, through your injectors. Tell us when you call. What our technicians bring alters.

## A bit about Wardley

Wardley is a suburban area located on the riverside in Tyne and Wear, with a mix of semi-detached housing and other residential properties. Wardley sits at an elevation of 54 metres, close to the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, which is approximately 4.2 miles away. Wardley is situated near other local places such as Follingsby, Leam Lane, and Bill Quay, and is home to around 1656 residents. Wardley's location near the river and its proximity to Newcastle upon Tyne make it a desirable place to live.

## The visit around Wardley, step by step

- Three things get asked before any quote — the fuel that got in, the amount, and if anything has been run since. Each answer alters the work.

- We empty that tank of the tainted mixture.

- Our technicians clean the lines and clear the fuel filter, so what's left in your system isn't what created the issue.

- Clean diesel goes in, and then the system gets bled.

- Our technicians start the car and check it runs smoothly on new diesel.

The vehicle is then ready for you to drive away.

Long-term damage is very uncommon when it has been spotted soon, and since everything is done where your car is, it never has to go to a garage.

## A different problem: AdBlue in a diesel tank in Wardley

Do not start it: that opening instruction applies whether what was put in was AdBlue or petrol. What differs is this problem itself.

The lubrication a fuel system relies on gets taken away by petrol, which thins the diesel.

Rust and deposits are what a diesel tank gets instead, because AdBlue is urea dissolved in water.

AdBlue removal around Wardley has a page of its own with the detail on it, including why it is often the more significant of the two. Our engineers handle both.

A vehicle you picked up two days ago gets driven further before anyone sees anything, which is the hire and courtesy fault in one sentence — and how far it went is what determines the volume of petrol getting to the fuel injectors. Nothing sloppy about the mistake itself: a newer diesel filler neck takes the smaller petrol nozzle with practically no resistance, so unfamiliar places see most of these. Call us from wherever you are, near The Bee Hive or not, and we'll head to the Mercedes GLC.

## Wardley pricing for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain

What changes the figure is set out below, as the job isn't one job and we cannot truthfully put a single figure on this page.

- Started? Driven? Either answer matters more than anything else on this list.

- How much of the wrong fuel went in, judged against how much the tank holds.

- Whether it's petrol or AdBlue.

- Access: the vehicle's position, and if working on it there is sensible for a technician.

A firm answer instead of a range is what you get for telling us three things: your vehicle, the quantity, and whether it has run.

For your car at home that is going nowhere and isn't urgent, is fine too.

Flushed, not emptied — that is what a diesel Skoda Superb which got as far as The Swarm needs. Running a diesel puts the mixture into your filter, the lines, the pump and the rail, none of which empties with that tank, and so by now that tank holds the smaller part of the trouble.

## Wardley drivers ask us these about petrol in diesel

## Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station around Wardley?

Yes — forecourts are where a fair part of this gets done.

Often, provided the site consents: Esso, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where exactly you have stopped. Whether we can work in that location is something we answer on the spot.

## How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

Litres are not the measure. Ratio is, and much more than either, it matters if anything has been run.

An almost empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: different situations, certainly. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is if the system has had that blend pulled through it.

## I put petrol in my diesel and drove the vehicle. Now what?

Stop safely. Off. Nothing after that.

Driving moves the issue along — out of that tank, into your pump and injectors. People fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one genuinely helpful thing left to you is not restarting the vehicle.

## Will a fuel drain void my warranty?

A drain and flush carried out correctly isn't an alteration and does not invalidate a manufacturer's warranty.

A disagreement over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it turned off.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

Two-stroke oil solves a different issue, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol thinned. No.

Petrol remains in that tank later, whatever else goes in, and the pump gets no break from it.

## Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?

Wherever the vehicle is, our technicians drain and flush it there, so a visit to the main dealer doesn't come into it.

## You, and your vehicle, still together?

Shut off is the way the car remains.

Turn it off somewhere sensible then leave it off, if you have already driven it.

Cold and parked, a car is in the best position available — and people fear this far more than the recovery rate warrants.

Across Tyne and Wear and around Wardley: call-out fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the roadside.
