# Waymills: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrongly fuelled cars where they sit, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a private drive, all over Waymills and the rest of Shropshire. The first thing to do is not to fire up your engine. When the engine has not yet run and the petrol is still in the tank, a drain is nearly always all it needs, and the following few minutes decide that, not how much was put in.

Ring us and then we can explain what happens next before you attempt any more.

## Your first five steps: petrol in a diesel

- While you drive, the pump and your injectors suffer. That's why you do not fire it up, and why you never believe it once it has started. The thing about petrol in a diesel especially — the bit drivers get wrong — is that it drives away happily for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol engine usually cannot run at all, which stops the person and stops the wear with them. This one lets you drive on.

- Leave the ignition alone also. Diesel does two jobs: it ignites, and before it ignites it lubricates your injection pump and those injectors. Petrol manages the first but not the second. Switching the car's ignition on is commonly sufficient to prime the system, which draws this petrol out of that tank and into just those parts.

- Topping up removes nothing. It leaves you a larger tank of the same blend, because a diesel fuel system won't cope with petrol by percentage the way that guidance implies — so don't pour diesel on top to water down it. Grade is irrelevant too: super unleaded is petrol.

- A motor that has never moved is the simplest one to handle, and so wait where you are if you sensibly can. Pulled up on the verge on Shakespeare Way? Hazards on, and leave the car there. A difficult spot suits us better than a started diesel.

- Check where you are before ringing. A postcode starting SY13 1, and the name of whatever is closest to you. Otherwise the van circles instead of showing up.

- Ring 0333 366 0103. Say what went in, about how much, and also whether the motor has run. Those three facts determine the full call-out.

## Can petrol be drained out of your diesel on a forecourt?

Pumps are where this job often starts, and where a good portion of it closes.

We work on garage forecourts routinely, with the site's agreement, and so if you're still at Texaco that is normally where this drain gets done.

Nowhere other than a garage can it be stopped with the engine still cold.

We can still sort it out where it stands, even away from the forecourt. In a car park, on a driveway or in a lay-by, the vehicle has been fired up and driven there, and that sucked fuel through your filter and into the high-pressure fuel pump, right from your tank. None of that is a catastrophe, but the flush then has to reach past the tank to the fuel lines and the filter, and the few seconds between reading the receipt and going for the keys are what decide that.

Clear of the petrol pump, the next customer can get through — so yes, let the attendants help you move it. Well worth it.

Cranking the car for four vehicle lengths? Don't.

We'll come out to you, drain the tank, flush the fuel lines and put new diesel in so you can get home. So if petrol went into your diesel Renault Megane around Waymills and you are stranded outside Lidl with a boot packed with shopping, phone — and never fire it up a second time to exit that space. A mile or so at light throttle pulls hardly any diesel, so those are often the easy ones.

## Coverage around Waymills

Waymills is a residential suburb, and so our technicians go out to the town and to the villages around it on the usual runs: Catteralslane, Broughall, Edgeley, Whitchurch and Heathlane.

If yours is not on that list it doesn't mean we do not come — there are dedicated pages for nearly all places across Shropshire, and the ones named above are just the immediate neighbours.

On a border, or somewhere the satnav struggles with? Phone and enquire instead of guessing.

This map marks the patch the page spans.

We work by the road, at forecourts, on driveways and at car parks throughout all of it, and your vehicle doesn't need to come to us.

## Stuck by the roadside in Waymills

Some drivers have no safe place to stop whatsoever.

Hazards flashing in a lay-by somewhere, or pulled onto the verge of Mill Park because you worked it out after setting off — our technicians take that call so often that it's the ordinary kind.

Whether you remain beside the vehicle or keep away from it turns on whether being nearby is safe.

Don't restart the engine to nurse the car somewhere safer — a diesel running on petrol will usually oblige, and every mile it obliges for is drawing the mixture further into the system.

Driving on does the car far more harm than a technician heading out to an inconvenient place, and that is no problem for us.

Three answers decide most of the work: what went in, approximately how much, and whether the engine has run since. We ask for them when we arrive at the vehicle in the car park by The Railway. After that the tainted mixture comes out of that tank, the lines are cleaned, and where your Mercedes E-Class has a serviceable filter, it comes off. Once fresh diesel is in and the fuel system bled, our engineers fire it up and confirm it runs properly before you drive away.

## Petrol in a diesel, and the car has rolled

under 15 miles out of Waymills, the local M6 is what counts now.

A misfilled diesel will frequently take you onto it and some way along before anything seems wrong, and the symptoms when they appear are usually a loss of power, a rough idle and some smoke instead of a clean stop.

Come off at the next safe exit, switch off, and do not restart the vehicle to move it.

It affects what our engineers bring, so tell us when you ring: on a longer trip — anything close to the under 15 miles to the closest city — take it the petrol has been through your filter, the pump and the injectors.

Sitting still, it gets no worse. Your pump isn't turning, so whatever occurred on the way to Whitchurch Rugby & Hockey Club in that diesel BMW 5 Series is finished happening. Time is yours. Just do not take it home on the engine to find more of it.

## A bit about Waymills

Waymills is a suburban area in Shropshire, situated inland at an elevation of 103 metres, with detached housing being the predominant type of accommodation. Waymills lies approximately 14.8 miles from Wrexham and is surrounded by nearby places such as Catteralslane, Broughall, and Edgeley. Waymills is home to a population of around 811 residents. Waymills is located about 147.3 miles from London, in the West Midlands region.

## What happens when our technicians get to you around Waymills

- We ask first, quote after. What got in? How much? Has your motor run? Those responses shape what the work actually is.

- The contaminated fuel is drawn from that tank.

- Our engineers flush your fuel lines and clean the filter, so what is remaining in your system is not what created the trouble.

- The fuel system gets primed, on fresh diesel.

- It's started with new diesel in it, and our technicians make sure that it's running correctly.

After that it is ready to drive away.

We do all of it wherever the car has come to a stop, which means it never has to be taken to a garage, and if it has been caught soon, it is very rare for there to be lasting damage.

## Waymills AdBlue removal is a separate job

If what got in was AdBlue instead of petrol, the opening instruction is unchanged — never fire it up — yet the fault is not.

Diluted diesel, and no lubrication left for the system that depends on it. That is petrol.

AdBlue is urea dissolved in water, and in a diesel tank it brings corrosion and build-up instead.

Our engineers cover both, and AdBlue removal in Waymills has its own page with the details — including why it is usually the more serious of the two.

Hire car? Company car? Call them before us. Some agreements want the firm to approve the work, and that is much faster dealt with up front than afterwards. Then phone us about the Kia Sportage, the diesel one, near Whitchurch Town Hall. Do not worry that you can't say how full the tank was — nearly no one can two days into a car, and it's something we establish there. The reason for asking: damage from petrol in a diesel is a matter of share. A few litres in an almost empty tank make a far stronger mixture than in a full one, and petrol is built to resist the very thing a diesel needs of it, which is igniting when compressed. Stronger mix, more rattling, more smoke, flatter throttle.

## What a petrol-in-diesel drain will cost around Waymills

One price wouldn't be honest here, as this isn't one job. These are the things that change it:

- Whether the motor has been run or driven. This is the main one.

- How much of the wrong fuel was put in, against how much your tank holds.

- Whether it was petrol or AdBlue.

- Whether a van can sensibly reach the vehicle and work on it, which rests on where the vehicle is.

The vehicle, the amount, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back firm and not as a range.

Not time-critical, with your car at home and going nowhere? Then does this job.

It got a couple of streets and stopped. The throttle went soft, your idle turned lumpy, and the diesel Audi Q5 is now waiting near Saint Johns Methodist Church. That sluggishness is your fuel failing to build pressure fully instead of the engine failing — and as there's no dashboard light for it, motors in that position generally get driven a second time before somebody calls. Don't. Switch it off and phone us.

## Waymills motorists ask us these about petrol in diesel

## At a petrol station around Waymills, can you do a fuel drain there?

Yes, and it is where a large share of this work gets done.

Our engineers work at Esso and the other forecourts nearby routinely, with the site's consent — tell us which one you're at when you call and we'll tell you if our technicians can work there.

## A couple of litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Whether the motor has run matters far more, though the proportion matters too, rather than the litres.

An almost empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: different situations, certainly. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is whether the fuel system has had that mixture drawn through it.

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven the car

Somewhere sensible, then stop, then switch off and leave it off.

Driving is what takes the trouble from your tank into your pump and injectors — but it's fixable much more often than drivers expect, and the single most valuable thing you can do now is not restart the car.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

A drain and flush carried out correctly isn't an alteration and doesn't void a manufacturer's warranty.

What's likelier to start a dispute is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more reason for the engine to stay off.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

No. It belongs to a different problem from a bygone era, and petrol has weakened something no oil of that kind restores.

Your pump still has to cope with it, because the tank still has petrol in it afterwards.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

No. We drain and flush your car wherever it is, so there's no need to take it to a main dealer.

## You, and the vehicle, still together?

Don't switch the car back on.

Already driven it? Then pull in somewhere sensible, switch off, and let the vehicle remain that way.

Cold and parked, a car is in the best place available — and drivers fear this far more than the recovery rate warrants.

Throughout Shropshire and around Waymills: mobile fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the kerbside.
