# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Wheelock Heath? Don't Start It

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrong-fuelled vehicles where they stand, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a driveway, throughout Wheelock Heath and the rest of Cheshire. The very first thing to do is not to start the engine. While the engine has not yet been started and the fuel is still in your tank, a fuel drain is nearly always all it needs, and the following few minutes determine that, not how much got in.

One call to us is sufficient: our team shall show you what follows after this. Try it right away.

## Your next five steps: petrol in a diesel

- While you drive, your pump and the fuel injectors wear. That is why you don't crank it, and why you do not believe it once it has started. The thing about petrol in a diesel especially — the bit motorists get wrong — is that it pulls away happily for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol motor normally can't run at all, which stops the driver and stops the wear with them. This one lets you drive on.

- Leave the car's ignition be too. Diesel has two tasks: it combusts, and before it burns it greases the high-pressure pump and the injectors. Petrol does the first but not the second. Turning the ignition on is commonly all it takes to prime that system, which moves the petrol out of your tank then into precisely those parts.

- Topping up clears nothing. It hands you a larger tank of the same mixture, since a diesel fuel system will not handle petrol by percentage in the way that guidance assumes — so don't tip diesel on top to weaken it. Octane is beside the point too: super unleaded is petrol.

- A motor that hasn't moved is the easiest one to sort out, and so wait where you are if you reasonably can. Parked on the verge on Alsager Road? Hazards on, and keep the car there. A difficult spot works for us better than a started diesel.

- Check where you are before phoning. A postcode that starts CW11 4, and the name of whatever is next to you. Otherwise the technician circles instead of showing up.

- Ring 0333 366 0103. Say what got in, approximately how many litres, plus if the car has fired. These three facts shape your whole call-out.

## Removing petrol from a diesel on a forecourt

It kicks off at a pump, mostly. Regularly it ends at one too.

Still at Shell? Then that is normally where it takes place. Station forecourts are routine for us, with the permission of the station.

No place but the forecourt can this be halted with the motor still untouched.

Everywhere else — a car park, a private drive, a lay-by — the car was started and moved to get there, which means fuel was sucked from the tank, through your filter then into the high-pressure fuel pump. That's not a catastrophe, and we can still put it right where it stands. It does mean the fuel lines and the filter need rinsing as well as your tank, and that's determined by the few seconds between seeing the receipt and going for the keys.

The staff will normally offer to push the vehicle away from the petrol pump so the next motorist can get past. That's worth doing.

Cranking it just for four car lengths? No.

## Coverage around Wheelock Heath

The same runs take us to Winterley, Wheelock, Hassall, Malkins Bank and Haslington besides Wheelock Heath, which is a village.

There are pages for the majority of towns across Cheshire, and the ones named above are just the closest neighbours — so yours being left off the list tells you nothing at all about if we come.

Contact us to enquire rather than guessing — boundaries particularly, and anywhere the satnav can get wrong.

This map outlines the area this page includes.

The lot is ground we cover: a kerbside, a forecourt, a private drive, a car park. You never bring your vehicle anywhere.

Twenty to nine outside The Dingle Primary School, running late, and the receipt in your hand shows unleaded. Hazards on, motor off, phone. Three miles in your Skoda Octavia seems like nothing, but a diesel pump supplies fuel to demand — and a frantic morning dash demands plenty.

## Kerbside call-outs in Wheelock Heath

Not everybody gets the opportunity to pull in somewhere suitable.

Hazards going in a lay-by somewhere, or pulled onto the verge beside Crewe Road since you noticed after setting off — our engineers take that call so often that it is the normal kind.

Sit with the vehicle if it's sensible to sit inside, and out of the car if it's not.

Don't restart the engine to limp it somewhere better — a diesel running on petrol will frequently oblige, and every mile it obliges for is dragging the mixture further into your fuel system.

However difficult the spot, it's no problem for us to get to it, and that is a lot better for the vehicle than carrying on.

## Petrol in a diesel, and the car has travelled

Here is where your M6 comes in, under 3 miles from Wheelock Heath.

Lost power, a lumpy idle, some smoke: those are the signs when they arrive, instead of a tidy stop — and a misfuelled diesel will often get you onto it and some distance along before anything seems wrong at all.

Get off at the next sensible exit, turn off, and don't start the vehicle to reposition.

Suppose the worst of that on a long drive. Anything near the under 15 miles to the nearest city, and the mixture has been through your filter, through the pump, through your injectors. Say so when you ring. What our engineers bring changes.

Nothing gets worse while it waits. Whatever your diesel Peugeot 308 did on the way to Haslington Playing Fields, it's doing none of that now: the pump isn't turning. So take your time — but never drive the vehicle home to buy yourself any.

## Where's Wheelock Heath?

Wheelock Heath is a village in Cheshire, situated on the banks of a river at an elevation of 64 metres, with a mix of rural and suburban characteristics. Wheelock Heath lies near the villages of Winterley and Wheelock, and is close to Hassall, forming part of a network of small communities in the area. Wheelock Heath has a population of around 1082 people, predominantly living in detached houses.

## What happens when we arrive with you around Wheelock Heath

- Our technicians ask first, price after. What was put in? How much? Has the engine run? Those responses change what the work actually is.

- Out flows the contaminated mixture.

- Fuel lines are purged through and the fuel filter cleared, leaving nothing in your system that created any of this.

- Your system gets bled, on new diesel.

- It is fired up with fresh diesel in it, and our engineers make sure that it is running correctly.

From that point, you are ready to drive away.

Permanent damage is very rare when it has been spotted soon, and because all of this is done where the car is, it never has to go to a garage.

The pump rests upstream of the injectors, so whatever a wearing one gives off travels downstream with your fuel — which is why we're blunt about not driving on. Call us, then leave the diesel Audi A4 where it is near Wheelock Heath Baptist Church.

## Wheelock Heath AdBlue removal is a separate problem

Do not start it: that opening instruction holds whether what went in was AdBlue or petrol. What differs is this problem itself.

Petrol does two things to diesel: weakens it, and strips out the protection the system depends on.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Tip that in with the diesel and you get rust instead, plus build-up.

Both are ours. There is a separate Wheelock Heath page for AdBlue removal, with the full story on it — including the reasons it frequently turns out to be the worse of the two.

A throttle gone dead, white smoke, a ragged idle, clattering: that is a wrongly fuelled diesel Ford Focus telling you what is wrong. Don't start it to find a better place — turn off where you have stopped, near Christ Church or anywhere else.

## What a petrol-in-diesel drain costs around Wheelock Heath

What shifts the price is listed below, since the job is not one job and we cannot frankly put a single number on this page.

- Whether the motor has been run or driven. This is the big one.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel got into it.

- Which went in: unleaded or AdBlue.

- Access: the vehicle's position, and whether working on it there is safe for our van.

The car, the amount, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back firm and not as a range.

If it's not urgent — the car is at home and going nowhere — works too.

A few streets, then it stopped. Throttle soft, idle lumpy, and the diesel Mercedes E-Class is parked up near Plymouth Brethren Christian Church. The motor isn't packing up — that sluggishness is fuel that will not build pressure. There's no light on the dash for it, so cars like yours generally get driven again before anybody picks up the phone. Do not. Off, then phone us.

## Wheelock Heath motorists ask us these about petrol in diesel

## Fuel drains on a Wheelock Heath petrol station forecourt

A big part of this work happens there, so yes.

Routinely, provided the site agrees: BP, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where exactly you have stopped. Whether our technicians can work in that spot is something our technicians answer there and then.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

It hinges on the ratio rather than the litres, and a lot more on whether your engine has run.

Five litres in an almost empty tank is a distinct matter from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that settles how much work is required is if that blend has been pulled through the system.

## I drove the vehicle after putting petrol in my diesel. What now?

Turn off somewhere sensible, and keep it that way after you stop.

Driving is what takes the issue from your tank into the pump and injectors — but it is fixable much more commonly than drivers fear, and the single most useful thing you can do now isn't restart it.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

A drain and flush carried out properly is not a change and doesn't void a manufacturer's warranty.

What's likelier to start a disagreement is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more good reason for the engine to remain off.

## Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?

What petrol has weakened is not restored by two-stroke oil, which is an old remedy for a distinct problem. So no.

That tank still has petrol in it after that, and your pump still has to live with it.

## Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

Not at all. Our technicians drain and clean your car wherever it is, so there's no need to bring it to a main dealer.

## Still with the vehicle?

Leave the engine turned off.

Switch it off somewhere sensible and leave it off, if you have already driven it.

A parked, cold vehicle is the best place to be in, and this is recoverable from much more commonly than drivers fear.

At the kerbside, on the forecourt or at home — mobile fuel draining around Wheelock Heath and across Cheshire.
