# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Wick Rocks? Don't Start It

Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes misfuelled vehicles where they sit, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a driveway, across Wick Rocks and the rest of Gloucestershire. The first thing to do is not to start the motor. While your engine has not yet been started and the fuel is still in that tank, a tank drain is almost always all it needs, and the coming few minutes determine that, not how much was put in.

Phone and then our technicians can show you what comes next before you try any more.

## Petrol in a diesel: what to do first

- Give a petrol engine diesel and it will usually refuse to run at all, and so the motorist stops there and so does the wear. Feed a diesel petrol and the car starts, it ticks over, it moves off — all right for several miles. Motorists have that backwards, which is the thing they get wrong about petrol in a diesel in particular. So never crank it. And once started, never rely on it: that fuel system is wearing while you drive.

- Two jobs, diesel: it ignites, and on the way through it keeps the high-pressure pump and injectors lubricated. Petrol only manages the one. Which is why your ignition remains off as well — turn it on and you often prime the system, and that is petrol exiting your tank for just those parts.

- Never tip diesel on top to thin it. A diesel fuel system won't accept petrol by percentage the way that advice implies, and topping up clears nothing — it merely gives you a bigger tank of the same mixture. The octane makes no difference either: super unleaded is just petrol.

- Our team would much rather come to a difficult location than have it started — so if you reasonably can, stay still. Nothing is easier to handle than a motor that has not shifted. On the verge on Rock Road, that means hazards on and leave the car.

- Know where you are before phoning. A postcode starting BS30 5, and the name of whatever is next to you. Otherwise our van circles rather than showing up.

- What was put in, about how many litres, and also if the engine has fired — those three replies shape the full visit. Dial 0333 366 0103 and tell us.

## Can petrol be taken from a diesel at a forecourt?

A fair portion of this job ends up finished at the pump, because that is where it usually starts.

Our technicians work on garage forecourts regularly, with the owner's agreement, so if you are still at BP that's typically where this drain gets done.

The forecourt is the one location this is stopped before your motor has started.

The few seconds between reading the till receipt and reaching for your key determine how much needs flushing. Anywhere other than the forecourt — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — the vehicle was fired up and moved to get there, so fuel was sucked from that tank, through the fuel filter and into the high-pressure pump. That means the fuel lines and the fuel filter need cleaning as well as your tank. It is not a disaster, and our technicians can still put it right where the car sits.

Away from the pump, the next customer can get past — so yes, let the staff help you wheel it. Well worth it.

Four car lengths isn't worth a restart.

## Will we cover your end of Wick Rocks?

Being a small village, Wick Rocks gets a frequent visit, and its neighbours close by go along on the same run: Wick and Holbrook Common, Abson and Doynton, Bridgeyate.

We do come. Those places above are merely the nearest neighbours, and a page is there for the majority of locations in Gloucestershire, so an absence from the list is not an absence from our coverage.

Guessing is the habit to skip, especially on the border or anywhere the satnav fails. Phone to ask.

That map shows the ground the page spans.

Roadside, forecourt, drive, car park: every bit of that is territory we work on, and none of that asks the car to come to us.

## Stuck at the kerbside somewhere in Wick Rocks?

Some drivers get no sensible place to stop at all.

A normal call for us instead of a rare one: realised after setting off, finished up along the verge on Abson Road or at a lay-by with your hazards on.

Stay by your car while it is wise to wait in it, and out of the car when it is not.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol drags the blend further into the fuel system — and oblige it often will, which is why your motor doesn't get restarted to limp somewhere safer.

A van driving to a tricky place is no problem for us, and it is a lot better for the vehicle than driving on.

Try the trip home from The Rose and Crown? Not a chance. It will fire up and it will move off quite happily, which is the issue — a diesel on a diluted tank runs normally whilst wearing the parts the fuel should be protecting. Park the Peugeot 308 then phone.

## Some miles on petrol in a diesel: what now?

The M4 is the one which matters now, and it sits under 3 miles from Wick Rocks.

Lost power, an uneven idle, smoke: those are the signs when they come, instead of a clean stop — and a wrongly fuelled diesel will often take you onto it and some distance along before anything feels wrong at all.

Get off at the next sensible exit, turn off, and never restart the vehicle to reposition.

Long drive? Anything approaching the under 10 miles to the closest city and you should suppose the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of it got to by the mixture. Say that on the phone, since it affects what goes in our van.

Diesel has to be thick enough to seal the precision components it flows through, and petrol weakens it. That is the full process, and it accounts for the normal Golden Valley Local Nature Reserve call: a diesel Nissan Qashqai that went out there without fuss and came back down on power, rough at idle, perhaps smoking a little. A diesel injection system works hydraulically as well as chemically — it needs your fuel to hold pressure, not only to burn — so when the fuel weakens, pressure that should build then stay built starts bleeding past clearances instead, and the engine gets a poorer, later, less even delivery than it was built about. None of that is the engine failing, which is the part worth hearing: it is your fuel no longer behaving like diesel, and it stops when your fuel is sorted.

## All about Wick Rocks

Wick Rocks is a riverside locality in Gloucestershire, situated near the city of Bath and the village of Wick. Wick Rocks lies at an elevation of 86 metres, close to the River Avon, and is characterized by semi-detached housing. Wick Rocks is part of a larger network of settlements, including nearby Holbrook Common and Abson, and is home to a population of around 648 residents.

## What comes next when we get to you in Wick Rocks

- The responses shape the work, which is why we ask before quoting: what was put in, how much of it, and whether the engine has run.

- That tank is emptied completely.

- Fuel lines are rinsed through and the fuel filter cleaned, leaving nothing in the system that started any of this.

- Our engineers pour new diesel in and prime the system.

- The engine is turned on and tested to make sure it runs properly on clean diesel.

The vehicle is then ready for you to drive away.

All of it is done where the car is, so it never needs to be taken to a workshop, and when it has been spotted soon, lasting damage is very uncommon.

Pulled off the forecourt, read the receipt, and parked your diesel Mercedes E-Class up close to Ravens Rock a couple of hundred yards later? That is about as well as this goes once your engine has turned. Phone us then leave it off. The short hop genuinely assists, but it was still a start and a drive, and so weakened fuel has arrived at your filter and the pump — which is why our engineers rinse the fuel lines rather than only clearing the tank.

## Wick Rocks AdBlue removal is a distinct problem

AdBlue rather than petrol? Then the opening step is unchanged — your motor stays off — while this fault underneath it's a distinct one altogether.

Thinned diesel, and no protection left for your fuel system that relies on it. That's petrol.

Urea in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that causes corrosion and residue.

Usually the more significant of the two, AdBlue — and the full story lives on its own Wick Rocks page. Both are ours to deal with.

Clattering? Lumpy idle? White smoke, throttle gone dead? That's your wrongly fuelled Vauxhall Astra, a diesel, saying what is wrong with it. Stop wherever you happen to be, maybe close to Wick Village Hall, and leave the restarting alone.

## What a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain costs around Wick Rocks

We cannot put one number on this page honestly, as this job isn't one job. What shifts it:

- Whether your engine has been run or driven. This is the big one.

- Wrong fuel in, against what the tank holds — that proportion.

- The type of fluid in the tank, petrol or AdBlue.

- Where the car is, and if a van can safely get to and work on it.

Tell us the vehicle, the amount and whether it has run, and you will get a clear answer rather than a range.

Car at home, going nowhere, nothing urgent about it — is fine for that.

The fuel filter, your lines, your pump and its rail: that is where the blend is once a diesel has run, and it doesn't come back out with that tank contents. So that tank is not where most of the trouble sits by this point, and a diesel Audi A6 that got near Wick Tabernacle needs the circuit cleared rather than drained.

## Petrol in diesel queries from Wick Rocks motorists

## Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station around Wick Rocks?

Plenty of what our engineers do takes place nowhere else. So yes.

Often, provided the site consents: Esso, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether our engineers can work in that location is something we answer there and then.

## How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

Ratio settles it instead of litres — and more than either, whether your motor has run.

A nearly empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: different scenarios, certainly. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is whether the fuel system has had that blend sucked through it.

## Already driven it with petrol in your diesel? What then?

Pull in somewhere safe, switch off, and keep the vehicle off.

Driving takes the issue along — out of the tank, into the pump and injectors. People fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one really valuable thing left to you isn't restarting it.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

A manufacturer's warranty outlasts a drain and flush done to a good standard, which is no change at all.

What's likelier to start a dispute is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more good reason for the motor to stay off.

## Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

Two-stroke oil solves a separate problem, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol thinned. No.

Later? Still petrol in your tank, and a pump that has to cope with the stuff.

## Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

Not at all. We drain and flush the car wherever it is, so there is no need to bring it to a main dealer.

## Waiting next to it?

Never turn the engine back on.

Already driven it? Then stop somewhere sensible, switch off, then let the vehicle remain that way.

Cold and parked, a motor is in the best position available — and motorists fear this far more than the recovery rate warrants.

Across Gloucestershire and in Wick Rocks: call-out fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the kerbside.
