# Woodseaves: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?

Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrongly fuelled vehicles where they sit, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a driveway, throughout Woodseaves and the remainder of Staffordshire. The first thing to do is not to fire up your engine. While your engine has not turned over and the petrol is still sitting in that tank, a fuel drain is almost always all it requires, and the coming few minutes decide that, not how much got in.

Our team shall tell you what the next stage will be. Contact us — that happens ahead of all else.

## What to try next about petrol in a diesel

- Do not crank it. Started anyway? Then do not rely on it. Diesel in a petrol car normally cannot run, so the person stops and the damage halts with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It idles. It pulls away happily, for a couple of miles. Motorists get that reversed. It isn't fine — that fuel system is grinding every mile you cover.

- Two tasks, diesel: it combusts, and on the way through it keeps the high-pressure fuel pump and injectors oiled. Petrol only does the one. That is why your ignition is left off too — flick it on and you usually prime that system, and that is petrol exiting that tank for just those components.

- Topping up clears nothing. It gives you a larger tank of the same mix, since a diesel fuel system does not tolerate petrol by percentage in the way that guidance assumes — so don't pour diesel on top to water down it. Octane is beside the point too: super unleaded is petrol.

- Remain where you are if you sensibly can. A vehicle that hasn't shifted is the easiest one to handle, and we'd sooner travel to a tricky spot than have it started. If you're parked on the verge on Glebefields, put your hazards on then leave it there.

- Get your position prepared before you ring. A postcode starting ST20 0 and whatever is next to you with a sign on it is the difference between a van showing up and our van circling.

- Phone 0333 366 0103. Say what got in, roughly how many litres, and also whether the car has started. Those three facts determine the whole call-out.

Nothing about the hours since has cost you anything. Fuel in a tank is idle, so a diesel Volkswagen Golf parked outside Norton Bridge this morning is no worse at five than it was at nine — what pushed diluted diesel through your pump was the run in. Phone before you head off to collect the car.

## Draining petrol from your diesel at the forecourt

Forecourts are where the job mostly begins, and where a fair share of it closes.

Still at the nearest petrol station? Then that is typically where it happens. Station forecourts are normal for us, with the consent of the station.

The forecourt is the single place it is stopped before your engine has fired.

The few seconds between reading your receipt and reaching for the key settle how much needs cleaning. Anywhere other than the forecourt — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — the vehicle was fired up and driven to get there, so fuel was pulled from that tank, through your filter and into the high-pressure fuel pump. That means your lines and your filter need rinsing as well as the tank. It is not a catastrophe, and our engineers can still deal with it where your car sits.

Wheel the car out of the way if the attendants volunteer, and they usually will. The next driver gets by the petrol pump, and that is worth doing.

Moving the car four spaces doesn't warrant cranking the motor.

Car parks like the one at The Co-operative Food are a place our technicians visit often, and the fuel is rarely the complicated part. That bay is: cars either side, a trolley shelter behind, at times a height limit on the way in that determines if a van can access you at all. So tell us how boxed in you are when you ring, and which way the car is facing. If our technicians can't work alongside your diesel Renault Megane we'll move it without starting it — and that's not fuss about a couple of seconds of running. Every start primes the fuel system and pulls more of the mix out of the tank and on to the pump, and so a car shuffled twice into a roomier space has silently become a bigger job than one left exactly where it stopped.

## Will our engineers serve your corner of Woodseaves?

Being a rural village, Woodseaves sees a regular visit, and the villages nearby go along on the same journey: Knightley and High Offley, Whitley Heath and Loynton, Garmelow.

Our technicians still come. Those places above are only the nearest neighbours, and a page is there for nearly all places around Staffordshire, so an absence from the list isn't an absence from the coverage.

Phone and ask rather than assuming, particularly if you are on a border or somewhere a satnav gets wrong.

This map is the patch the page spans.

We work at the roadside, on forecourts, on driveways and in car parks across all of it, and the car doesn't need to come to us.

Move the vehicle out of that gateway and sort it out later — that's what a passer-by will say, and it's wrong. Stopped on the zig-zags by Woodseaves CE Primary Academy, a wrongly fuelled diesel Skoda Octavia is an inconvenience and nothing worse. Restarted three more times for politeness, it's no longer a tank fault but a fuel system one, since priming takes place with every start and more petrol goes through the fuel filter on to your pump. Let people complain. Phone us.

## Stranded at the roadside around Woodseaves

Not everyone gets the opportunity to pull in anywhere sensible.

Set off, then noticed? Ended up by the verge beside Glebe Meadow, or sat in some lay-by with the hazards going? That's a normal call here. Not an unusual one.

Okay right there? Remain with it. Not okay? Climb out and clear of it.

Do not fire up the engine to nurse the car somewhere safer — a diesel running on petrol will usually oblige, and every mile it obliges for is drawing the mix further into your fuel system.

However tricky the location, it is no problem for us to come to it, and that is a lot better for your car than pressing on.

## Driven it already? Pull over, and read this

Here is where the local M6 comes into it — under 10 miles away from Woodseaves.

It will usually get you onto it, and some way along, before you notice a thing. Then it is smoke, a lumpy idle and power draining away — not a clean stop. Misfuelled diesels rarely give you one of those.

Take the next junction that is sensible, pull up there, and don't start the car to reposition.

On a longer trip — anything close to the under 15 miles to the closest city — assume the contamination has been through the filter, your pump and your injectors, and say so when you ring. It alters what our engineers bring.

Injection pressure is the thing being lost. Petrol dilutes diesel, and thinner fuel slips past the precision parts that are meant to build that pressure, and so the further a diesel BMW 5 Series went, the less well it held. Fine on the way out and sluggish on the way back is how the run to Loynton Moss went, then, and your tank is where to look. Stop somewhere sensible, turn off and call us.

## Where's Woodseaves?

Woodseaves is a small village in Staffordshire, situated in a rural area with a mix of farmland and woodland, and is characterized by its detached housing stock. Woodseaves sits at an elevation of 144 metres, near the villages of Knightley and High Offley, and is approximately 14.5 miles from Stoke-on-Trent. Woodseaves has a population of around 691 residents, who live in a predominantly rural setting. Woodseaves is located inland, about 129.5 miles northwest of London.

## Once our engineers get to you in Woodseaves: what we do

- Our engineers ask first, quote after. What was put in? How much? Has the engine run? Those responses alter what the work really is.

- Away comes the polluted fuel.

- What is left in the fuel system should not be what started the issue, and so the fuel lines get flushed and the filter cleared.

- Your system gets bled, on new diesel.

- Our technicians turn it on and check it runs properly on fresh diesel.

From that point, you are ready to set off.

Our technicians do all of this wherever your car has come to a stop, which means it never needs to go to a workshop, and when it has been noticed quickly, it's very rare for there to be lasting damage.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank instead, around Woodseaves?

Do not start it: that first instruction applies whether what went in was AdBlue or petrol. What differs is this fault itself.

Thinned diesel, and no lubrication left for your fuel system that relies on it. That's petrol.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Put that in with the diesel and you get rust instead, plus residue.

Usually the more serious of the two, AdBlue — and the full story sits on its own Woodseaves page. Both are ours to deal with.

Most of these occur somewhere strange, and the cause is mechanical not sloppy — almost no resistance meets a narrower petrol nozzle entering a newer diesel filler neck. Two days into a diesel Ford Kuga, a fill-up near Christ Church that you didn't think about? Phone us from where you are. Courtesy and hire cars go further before anyone notices it, and the further they go, the more petrol ends up at the fuel injectors.

## Woodseaves costs for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain

One price wouldn't be honest here, as this is not one job. These are the things that move it:

- Started? Driven? Either answer counts more than anything else on this list.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel went into it.

- AdBlue or petrol, whichever was put in.

- Whether our van can sensibly reach your vehicle and work on it, which rests on where your car is.

The car, the amount, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back straight rather than as a range.

For the vehicle at home that is going nowhere and isn't time-critical, works too.

## Things our technicians hear about petrol in diesel around Woodseaves

## I'm on a forecourt in Woodseaves. Can you drain the vehicle on the spot?

A fair part of this work happens there, so yes.

Routinely, provided the site consents: BP, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether our engineers can work in that spot is something our engineers answer on the spot.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Litres are not the measure. Ratio is, and a lot more than either, it matters whether anything has been run.

What decides how much work is required is whether that mixture has been drawn through your fuel system — because even though five litres in an almost empty tank is a separate matter from five in a full one, either way that is the query.

## I put petrol in my diesel and drove it. What now?

Somewhere safe, then stop, then switch off and leave it off.

Not restarting it is the single most valuable thing available to you now. Driving does shift the problem out of that tank then into the pump and injectors, yes, and it stays salvageable much more frequently than drivers expect.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

A manufacturer's warranty withstands a drain then flush done to a good standard, which is no alteration at all.

Another reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause an argument with one.

## Two-stroke oil in your tank, and then home?

Two-stroke oil solves a different problem, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol weakened. No.

That tank still has petrol in it later, and your pump still has to put up with it.

## Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?

You do not need one. The car is drained and cleaned wherever it is, with no need to bring it to a dealership.

## Standing next to it?

Switched off is how it stays.

Turn it off somewhere sensible and leave it off, if you have already driven it.

Cold and stationary, a vehicle is in the best position available — and drivers fear this much more than the recovery rate warrants.
