# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Wooler

Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes misfuelled cars where they are, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a driveway, all over Wooler and the remainder of Northumberland. The first thing to do is not to start the motor. While the motor has not run and the petrol is still sitting in your tank, a drain is nearly always all it needs, and the following few minutes decide that, not how much got in.

Ring us and we can show you what comes from here before you do much else.

## Now what? Petrol in a diesel, in turn

- While you drive, the pump and the fuel injectors wear down. That is why you do not crank it, and why you don't rely on it once it has started. The thing about petrol in a diesel especially — the point motorists get wrong — is that it pulls away fine for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol motor usually won't run at all, which stops the motorist and stops the damage with them. This one lets you carry on.

- Two tasks, diesel: it ignites, and on the way through it keeps your high-pressure pump and injectors greased. Petrol only manages the one. Which is why the car's ignition is left off as well — turn it on and you frequently prime the system, and that is petrol leaving that tank for precisely those components.

- Don't weaken it. Diesel tipped on top gets rid of nothing, so all you have is more of what was already there, because percentage is not how a diesel fuel system copes with petrol. Super unleaded? Still petrol. The type makes no difference.

- Stay put if it is sensible to. Hazards on, ignition off, keep the vehicle. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on Glendale Road, anywhere — a difficult spot for us trumps a started diesel, and nothing is simpler for us to sort out than a car that never shifted.

- Before you phone, get your whereabouts. Anything next to you with a label on it, plus a postcode starting NE71 6 — that's what determines whether the van turns up or circles.

- Call 0333 366 0103. Anticipate three questions — what was put in, roughly how much, and if the motor has been turned over. Those answers determine all that follows.

Your high-pressure pump spent that morning run labouring on a fluid that had given up a great deal of the protection it is made for. Diesel protects that pump, and your injectors with it, before any of the fuel combusts; petrol does the burning and none of the oiling. So picture a diesel Volkswagen Golf, filled at quarter past eight, taken in to work, and parked standing outside the nearest station till it dawns on you close to eleven. Three hours of sitting have changed nothing about it. The couple of miles before that changed a lot, which is why the question our technicians put to you is about distance instead of time. Call us. Leave the car just where it sits.

## Pump-side draining for petrol in a diesel

A big chunk of the work ends up done at the pump, as that is where it usually begins.

We work on petrol station forecourts all the time, with the site's consent, so if you are still at Murco that's normally where the drain happens.

Before the motor has run — the forecourt is the single setting the mistake ends up caught.

The few seconds between checking the till receipt and going for the keys settle how much requires cleaning. Everywhere other than a forecourt — a car park, a driveway, a lay-by — your car was started and moved to get there, so fuel was drawn from that tank, through your filter then into the high-pressure pump. That means the lines and your filter need rinsing as well as that tank. It's not a calamity, and our technicians can still deal with it where your car is.

Roll it out of the way if the attendants volunteer, and they usually will. The next motorist gets through the pump, and that's worth doing.

Four vehicle lengths is not worth a restart.

## Will our technicians cover your end of Wooler?

Humbleton, Low Humbleton, Haugh Head, Middleton Hall, Akeld — each of those on our journeys that carry us across to Wooler too, a riverside town.

There are pages for nearly all places in Northumberland, and the ones listed above are just the closest neighbours — so yours being absent from this list means nothing at all about whether we come.

On the border, or somewhere your phone gets wrong? Phone to ask rather than assuming.

The area this page covers appears on the map.

Every bit of that is territory we cover: a kerbside, a forecourt, a private drive, a car park. You never bring your vehicle anywhere.

## Kerbside stops across Wooler

The chance to pull over anywhere suitable doesn't come to everybody.

Hazards going at a lay-by somewhere, or stopped on the verge on Market Place as you worked it out after setting off — our technicians take that call regularly enough that it is the usual kind.

Safe right there? Wait with it. Not fine? Step out and clear of it.

It will often oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along quite willingly, and that's the problem: fire it up to reach somewhere better and that mix goes further into the system with every mile covered.

Pressing on causes the vehicle far more harm than our van heading out to an inconvenient location, and that is no trouble for us.

Don't chance it. The trip home from The Angel Inn is perfectly possible, which is exactly the issue — a diluted tank doesn't stop a diesel starting or pulling away, it just wears the components the fuel is supposed to lubricate. Phone, then let the Ford Focus stay where it sits.

## Petrol in a diesel, and the vehicle has travelled

under 50 miles from Wooler, the A167(M) is what matters now.

A drop in power, a rough idle, some smoke: those are the signs when they appear, rather than a tidy stop — and a wrongly fuelled diesel will often get you onto it and some distance along before anything seems wrong at all.

Take the next junction that is sensible, pull up there, and do not start it to move it.

On a longer drive — anything near the under 50 miles to the nearest city — take it the mixture has been through the filter, your pump and the fuel injectors, and say so when you call. It changes what our engineers bring.

## A bit about Wooler

Wooler is a small town situated in the north of Northumberland, on the banks of the River Till at an elevation of around 126 metres. Wooler lies near the Cheviot Hills, close to the villages of Humbleton and Low Humbleton, and is about 42 miles northwest of Newcastle upon Tyne. Wooler has a population of approximately 1930 residents, living mostly in semi-detached housing. Wooler is located about 290 miles north of London, making it a relatively remote town in northeastern England.

## Our visit around Wooler, step by step

- Three things get checked before any price — the fuel that went in, the quantity, and whether anything has been run since. Each answer alters the work.

- We drain that tank of the tainted mixture.

- Our technicians flush the lines and clear your filter, and so what's left in the system isn't what started the problem.

- The system gets bled, on fresh diesel.

- After it's started, our engineers make sure it runs smoothly on clean diesel.

After that it is ready to set off.

There's no need to go to a garage at any point, because the work is all done where the car is, and when it is spotted quickly, lasting damage is very uncommon.

About as well as this goes, once the motor has turned: away from the pumps, receipt read, and your diesel Citroen C3 parked near Alderman Gilbert Oliver barely two streets on. Ring us, and leave the vehicle off. A short distance does truly help. It was still a start and still a drive, though, so the fuel filter and the pump have had weakened fuel through them — hence cleaning the lines instead of only emptying that tank.

## Wooler AdBlue removal is a different job

AdBlue instead of petrol? Then the first instruction is unchanged — the motor stays off — whereas the issue underneath it is a different one altogether.

Petrol weakens the diesel and takes away the protection the system relies on.

AdBlue is urea in water, and in a diesel tank it brings corrosion and build-up instead.

Frequently the more significant of the two, AdBlue — and the details lives on its own Wooler page. Both are ours to handle.

A vehicle you collected two days ago gets driven further before anyone sees anything, which is the hire and courtesy fault in one sentence — and how far it went is what settles the volume of petrol reaching your injectors. Nothing sloppy about the mistake itself: a current diesel filler neck accepts the smaller petrol nozzle with practically no resistance, and so strange spots see most of these. Phone us from wherever you are, close to Wooler Library or not, and we will head to the Vauxhall Insignia.

## Wooler prices for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain

Frankly, no single price fits on a page like this. The job changes. Here's what moves it:

- Started? Driven? Either answer counts more than anything else on this list.

- Wrong fuel in, against what that tank holds — that proportion.

- Which got in: unleaded or AdBlue.

- Access: the car's position, and if working on it there's safe for a technician.

The car, the amount, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back straight and not as a range.

For the car at home that is going nowhere and is not pressing, is fine too.

It got a couple of streets and stopped. The throttle went dead, your idle turned uneven, and your diesel Seat Leon is now sitting close to St Mary's C of E Church. That softness is the fuel failing to build pressure properly rather than your engine failing — and as there is no dashboard light for it, motors in that position typically get driven once more before anyone rings. Don't. Switch it off then phone us.

## Petrol in diesel queries from Wooler drivers

## At a petrol station in Wooler, can you do a fuel drain there?

A large part of this work happens there, so yes.

Routinely, provided the site consents: JET, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether we can work in that spot is something we answer straight away.

## Is there a sensible quantity of petrol in a diesel?

It depends on the proportion instead of the litres, and much more on whether your engine has run.

What determines how much work is required is whether that mixture has been drawn through the fuel system — since though five litres in an almost empty tank is a different case from five in a full one, either way that is the question.

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven the car

Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that.

Driving takes the trouble along — out of the tank, into your pump and injectors. People fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one genuinely helpful thing left to you is not restarting the car.

## Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

It's not a modification, and so a drain and flush carried out properly doesn't cancel a manufacturer's warranty.

A dispute over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it switched off.

## Two-stroke oil in that tank, and then home?

No. Two-stroke oil is an old workaround for a separate issue and it doesn't put back what petrol has thinned.

After that? Still petrol in the tank, and a pump that has to live with the stuff.

## Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?

You don't need one. The car is drained and flushed wherever it is, with no need to take it to a dealership.

## Still with the vehicle?

Switched off is how it remains.

Switch it off somewhere sensible then keep it off, if you have already driven it.

A stationary, cold motor is the best position to be in, and this is recoverable from a lot more often than people fear.

Across Northumberland and in Wooler: on-site fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the roadside.
