Land Rover Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling Petrol in a Diesel Land Rover is a fairly typical mistake. And its remedy depends on several different things. If you would like to know what you need to do to sort it out then please read on.
Right here are the key variables to take into consideration whenever deciding whether or not to get a fuel drain:

  1. What level of Petrol did you put in to the Land Rover, keeping in mind that the fuel tank capacity of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport SDV6 is in most cases about 77 litres?
    1. Hardly any Petrol, less than 3.85 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Range Rover Sport SDV6 will more often than not not really be a huge problem. Experience has proven to us that quantities under 3.85 litres (which is roughly 5% of the whole fuel tank capacity) is very often able to be adequately diluted through completely filling the tank with Diesel.
It is extremely uncommon to find an automobile having problems due to less than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Bear in mind that it is rare - definitely not impossible to find. There are a number of cars that don't endure any level of fuel contamination whatsoever.
    2. Somewhere between 3.85 and 7.7 litres of Petrol in the Land Rover (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 condition. Our experience has demonstrated that as many motorists get away with it as those who break down. Whenever you are figuring out whether to chance it and just top it up consider that it is much like wagering all of it on black - you will have a 50/50 possibility of it working out.
    3. Anything in excess of 7.7 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Range Rover Sport SDV6 should straight away be drained seeing as your likelihood of getting away with this level of contamination is probably less than one in fifty - seriously long odds.
  2. Put some Petrol in a Diesel Land Rover and drove it: Have you spotted any performance problems as a result of putting the wrong fuel in your Range Rover Sport SDV6? If you have, get it emptied regardless of the quantity of Petrol or the contamination ratio. Continuing to run running a car that is already beginning to suffer from the effects of wrong fuel contamination will typically result in increasing amounts of harm being caused to the fuel system parts.
  3. Are you interested in reassurance?
Simply get it removed. Regardless of contamination percentage, there is invariably some extent of risk in connection with driving a Diesel motor on Diesel contaminated with Petrol. Likely final outcomes of driving a vehicle on the wrong fuel include things like the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, reduced power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn out or blocked injectors, and the like. These are a few of the most typical Petrol in Diesel signs or symptoms, and should you detect any of them then stop and have it removed right away.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
