AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Alne? Don't Start It

With AdBlue in your diesel tank, your ignition stays off and so does the engine. AdBlue is urea dissolved in water. It doesn't burn, it does not mix with diesel, and the harm it does begins when the fuel system pulls it in. If your motor hasn't run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is normally emptied and thoroughly cleaned where the car sits in Alne. Nothing comes before calling 0333 366 0103.

AdBlue in your diesel tank around Alne: the first few minutes

Do these:

  • Take your keys out, and so no one switches your ignition on.
  • Hazards on, if moving traffic is at all close.
  • Which fluid, and about how much volume? Save the bottle or your receipt, and our engineers can see.
  • Call us from where you are. A postcode starting YO61 1, or the name of the closest street, gets our van to you without a search.

Things not to do:

  • Don't start your engine, even for a moment to shift the car.
  • Switching your key to ignition alone starts the pump running on plenty of diesels. Avoid it.
  • No extra fuel on top. The AdBlue will not mix, and so it's wasted.
  • Keep the car where it is instead of driving it anywhere, even a short distance up Mitchell Lane.
  • By the road, don't try draining it yourself.

At a forecourt in Alne, whether it's the Gulf or another one, ask the staff to help you roll the vehicle away from the petrol pump. At your own driveway, don't move it at all.

AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

Made for your exhaust, AdBlue has no place in the motor. Its own tank holds it, and from there it is sprayed into your exhaust, where it treats the gas. Neither side suits the other: urea doesn't belong in a pump, and a pump cannot deal with urea.

It doesn't combine. Once it's tipped into a tank of diesel, AdBlue behaves nothing like diesel. It's heavier than diesel, and so it sinks and gathers at the bottom of your tank, which is where the pickup sucks fuel from. A car topped up on a driveway in Youlton yesterday evening and left unstarted counts as the simple case. Nothing has pulled the AdBlue up yet — but when your motor turns, that's what goes first, directly from the bottom of the tank.

It does two kinds of harm from there. Crystals and corrosion. As the water evaporates, it strands urea that hardens in filter elements and narrow channels; and, since it attacks certain metals, every part it touches keeps suffering for as long as it remains in there. By daybreak, a car sitting around Alne with AdBlue through its pipework gets worse; where it is just inside your tank, it doesn't. Diesel protects the high-pressure pump and each injector as it flows; water gives no lubrication, and that is a second kind of harm.

AdBlue in a diesel: why it is commonly worse than petrol

Put petrol in a diesel at the another forecourt nearby and you have a problem of thin fuel. Blended through your diesel and sitting unused, it is harmless at that stage; using the engine does the harm.

AdBlue in a diesel is an issue of the wrong substance altogether. It does not burn, and so it can't simply be run through. Whether the car sits in Tholthorpe or the heart of Alne, firing it up "to see" does more harm in this case than nearly any other mistake, and the flush matters for more. The reasons: it will not stay blended, so diluting it fails; and crystals and corrosion outlast the following fill.

The same good news applies as with petrol. Emptying a tank is the simplest job on any fuel system, and with no start-up, the AdBlue remains in it — anywhere around North Yorkshire your car has stopped.

How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank around Alne

It is not on purpose. Plenty of vehicles keep the AdBlue inlet beside the diesel inlet, now and then under one flap, and muddling them up is simple in poor light. Usually it's never the forecourt: a driver picks up a container heading home and pours it in at home.

A few familiar ways cover most cases. Hurrying, outside Outwood Primary Academy Alne, after a warning lamp flashed on during the school run, a parent refills the car. A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off Main Street. Else, in dim light outside The Bluebell, your car gets refilled by someone using that flap for the first time.

It comes up most in a rental, a brand-new vehicle, a company vehicle, or the other motor of a home with both fuel types — the cars people use the least. Keep it switched off: that's the first response to an identical slip, wherever around Alne or the remainder of North Yorkshire you happen to be.

Already started your engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank around Alne?

In that case, the AdBlue is no longer in that tank. It's been pulled through the filter and the lines, and if your motor ran for any time, it has reached the high-pressure fuel pump and the injectors.

You may see your motor running unevenly, smoking, losing power, showing warning lights or cutting out, maybe on the way back from Youlton Moor Plantation or halfway across Alne. Stop as soon as it is safe, switch off, and don't restart the vehicle to check. More of that is pulled through with each start.

If you were on the A1(M), under 10 miles from Alne, come off at the next exit and stop somewhere sensible rather than pressing on.

Each mile carries the AdBlue deeper in. That's why crossing Alne to park near Alne Village Hall and a drive of under 15 miles for York are very distinct jobs. Tell us about how far it had come.

Our technicians do all of the cleaning where the vehicle has come to a stop, and once the motor has run there is more of it. When it's spotted soon, lasting damage is very rare.

Draining AdBlue in a diesel in Alne: what it takes

We come to your car, wherever it has stopped around Alne: a side street near St Mary's, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt. The job rests on three answers, and our technicians ask for before all else — which fluid went in, the amount, and if the motor has turned over.

The polluted diesel and the urea leave together when your tank is emptied, right there. With AdBlue, more so than with petrol, the flush counts: the whole system is flushed all the way through since what remains won't wash away unaided. Fresh diesel goes in once the filter is flushed — or swapped, if it needs to be — and after that your vehicle is tested. Engine not run? Then expect about half an hour on site for most jobs. The pumping gear is explosion-proof, and so a busy filling station is no fault, and it is hushed enough for a residential street late at night.

Fresh diesel goes in to prime the system, and that is the final step. Starting the engine comes next, and then you set off from where the vehicle is parked, by Hammerton or on a drive in Alne. Our technicians make sure it runs smoothly on clean diesel before leaving. The entire job is done where the vehicle is, so it never needs to go to a workshop. The insurer is likely to want an engineer's report and the VAT invoice — each handed over afterwards.

AdBlue drains across Alne and North Yorkshire

AdBlue jobs in Alne go to teams that cover the towns near it — Alne Station, Flawith as well as Tollerton — and most of North Yorkshire further out, across YO postcodes. Ring and check rather than guess when you're by a county line, or anywhere tricky to pin down.

No towing is needed. In Alne, a village, a van that comes to you works: the car is emptied on the spot, be it in a driveway, a residential street, a car park or a filling station.

What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out around Alne?

There's no honest single quote, since the jobs aren't the same. What shifts the price is, first, whether the engine has been running and for how long; then how much AdBlue got in; and then where the vehicle is and whether a technician can reach it safely, which is easier on an open drive than in a tight spot behind Tollerton Village Hall.

For that reason, each call from Alne begins with the same trio — which fluid got in, what quantity, whether the engine ran — before a figure. The answers turn a range into a straight quote.

Before a van sets off, you hear our price on the phone. And payment is on the day, card or by phone, with nothing in advance. Misfuelling cover comes with plenty of insurance policies, so it is worth looking at yours before the van arrives.
