Brookfield: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Leave It Off
AdBlue in the diesel tank? Then leave your motor off — and your ignition as well. Chemically, AdBlue is simply urea in water. The trouble starts once it's pulled through your pump — it will not burn, and it will not blend with diesel. Caught before your motor has been run, AdBlue in a diesel tank is usually a drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is around Brookfield. Before anything, phone us on 0333 366 0103.
Brookfield, AdBlue in your diesel tank: what to do at once
To do:
- So nobody can switch your ignition on, pull the keys out.
- If you are at all close to moving traffic, put your hazards on.
- Hold on to your receipt or the empty bottle, and so you can tell us what got in and roughly how much.
- Call right where you are. Quote a TN23 4 postcode or the closest street name, and nobody has to search for you.
Not to do:
- No starting your motor — not briefly, not to reposition the vehicle.
- The ignition remains off: on many diesels, turning it on is enough to run your fuel pump.
- AdBlue does not dilute in diesel — it separates out — so adding extra fuel won't thin it.
- Don't drive it anywhere, not even a short distance up Allen Field.
- No draining it yourself, at all, at the verge.
The attendants on duty at any Brookfield forecourt — the BP included — will normally help pushing it clear if you ask. If you're on your own drive, leave it exactly where it is.
AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there
The engine isn't what AdBlue is made for; the exhaust is. From a separate tank it goes directly to your exhaust, cleaning what the engine lets out. Neither side suits the other: urea doesn't belong in a pump, and an injection pump cannot deal with urea.
Inside a diesel tank it acts very differently from fuel. It does not mix in. It's heavier than diesel, and so it sinks and collects at the bottom of that tank, which is where the pickup pulls fuel from. A motor topped up on a driveway in Stanhope yesterday evening and not started since counts as the straightforward one. No pump has sucked the AdBlue up yet — but when your motor turns, that's what is pulled first, straight from the bottom of your tank.
From there it causes two kinds of harm. It eats at some metals found in fuel components, attacking any part it touches until it's removed from your system. And once the water evaporates, the urea forms crystals that clog filters and lodge in tiny channels. A car left sitting around Brookfield with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue only in its tank is not. Diesel lubricates the injection pump and every injector as it passes; water gives no lubrication, which is a second kind of harm.
Why is AdBlue in a diesel often the bigger fault?
Petrol put into a diesel on eg's forecourt makes your fuel watery — that is the main problem. Harm only comes from running on it. Blended into the diesel and sitting inside that tank, it does none.
AdBlue in a diesel is an issue of the wrong substance altogether. It doesn't burn, so it can't just be run through. It does not stay mixed, so it can't be diluted. And crystals and corrosion do not wash out with the next tank of fuel. That is why the flush matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting your motor "to see" costs more here than nearly anywhere else, whether your car is in Great Chart or the middle of Brookfield.
As with petrol, there's good news. Anywhere across Kent your car has come to rest, an unrun engine leaves the AdBlue yet in the reservoir: the simplest part of any fuel system to empty.
How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank around Brookfield
It's not on purpose. Plenty of vehicles keep the AdBlue inlet beside the diesel one, occasionally behind a single flap, and muddling them up is easy in poor light. A container bought while heading home and poured in outside the house, rather than at the filling station, is the usual story.
A couple of familiar ways account for most cases. A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up takes place in a hurry outside Ashford Oaks Community Primary School. A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off Brookfield Road. Or your car is topped up in the car park outside The Beaver, in poor light, by a person who has never opened that flap before.
It occurs most in the vehicles drivers know least: a hire car, a new car, a company car, or the second car of a household with one diesel and one petrol. An identical mistake, an identical first response — keep it switched off — anywhere you happen to be around Brookfield or the rest of Kent.
Brookfield: started the motor with AdBlue in the diesel tank?
The AdBlue has left your tank, then. Given any running time, it goes on to the high-pressure pump and every injector, after passing through the fuel filter and pipework.
You may see your motor running unevenly, smoking, losing power, showing warning lights or cutting out, maybe on the way back from Noakes Meadow or halfway across Brookfield. Once you safely can, pull over and switch everything off — without turning it on again to see. More of that is pulled through with each start.
Brookfield lies under 3 miles from the M20; if you were on it, exit by the next junction and pull up safely rather than carrying on.
How far it went matters. A couple of hundred yards across Brookfield to the car park by The Willow Centre is a very different job from a run towards Canterbury, under 15 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into your system with each mile. Approximately how far had it come? Tell us.
Once the engine has been started, the flush takes in more, and all of it is done where the car has stopped. Noticed soon, it very seldom leaves permanent damage.
Brookfield: how AdBlue is drained from a diesel
A road by St. Francis, Ashford, a drive, a lay-by or a filling station: anywhere your car has come to rest around Brookfield, our technicians travel to it. Before anything else our technicians ask what got in, about how much, and if your motor has been run, because those replies determine the work.
Next, draining your tank right there removes the polluted diesel and the AdBlue together. Your system is purged thoroughly, which matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, since what it leaves behind does not rinse out on its own. Your filter is cleaned, or replaced where it needs to be; fresh diesel goes in; and your car is tested. If the engine hasn't run, the majority of jobs take about half an hour once our technicians are there. The pumps are explosion-proof, safe on a working forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.
New diesel goes in to prime the system, and that's the last step. You drive off as soon as we have fired it up, and it makes no difference whether your car is on a driveway in Brookfield or in a space outside Ashford International. Before we leave, our engineers check it's running properly with clean diesel in. Our technicians do it all wherever your car has ended up, and it never has to go to a workshop. Your insurer is likely to want an engineer's report and the VAT invoice — each handed over once the job is done.

AdBlue drains in Brookfield and across Kent
AdBlue call-outs in Brookfield are passed to teams that cover the places around it — Beaver, Singleton plus South Ashford — and much of Kent further out, throughout TN postcodes. Near a border, or somewhere tricky to explain? Asking is better than assuming, and so ring.
Anywhere your vehicle stands — your drive at home, a side street, a parking area, a filling station — our engineers empty it there, with no need to bring it to us; that suits Brookfield, a residential suburb, well.
What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out around Brookfield?
Each job differs, and so not one single quote is honest. The price changes first with how long, if at all, the motor has been running, and next with the amount of AdBlue that got in. After that it turns on where the car is and whether a technician can reach it safely, which is simpler on an open driveway than in a tight space behind South Ashford Youth Centre.
Ahead of a quote, not after, every call from Brookfield begins with the same three questions: the fuel, the amount, plus if the engine ran. When those are answered, a range becomes one fixed number.
Our price is quoted during the call, before anyone sets off; settling up happens on the day, by card or by phone, and nothing upfront. Misfuelling cover comes with many insurance policies, so it pays to look at yours before the van gets there.
In Brookfield and still alongside the car?
Then the most useful thing you can do is nothing to your car. Ignition off, motor off, keys out. Call 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, the amount, plus if it ran is everything our engineers ask. Petrol in Diesel takes over the rest across Kent, Brookfield included.
