AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Brooks Bank? Don't Start It

AdBlue in the diesel tank? Then keep your engine off — and the ignition as well. Water with urea dissolved in it: that is AdBlue. The harm starts once it's sucked through the pump — it will not ignite, and it won't combine with diesel. In Brooks Bank, AdBlue in a diesel tank caught before the engine runs usually comes down to a drain and a thorough flush, just where the vehicle is. First, ring us on 0333 366 0103.

Brooks Bank, AdBlue in the diesel tank: what to do right away

To do:

  • So nobody can turn the ignition on, take the keys away.
  • Near moving traffic? Then put the hazard lights on.
  • Which product, and about how much amount? Save the bottle or your receipt, and we will see.
  • Give us a postcode starting WF2 9, or whichever street is closest, and our van reaches you directly — so call wherever you are.

Things not to do:

  • No starting your engine — not briefly, not to reposition your car.
  • Your ignition remains off: on lots of diesels, switching it on is enough to start the pump.
  • No extra fuel on top. The AdBlue will not blend, and so it's wasted.
  • Even a short stretch along Plumpton Road is too far to drive it.
  • Draining the tank on your own by the road is not one to try.

Moving your vehicle away from the island is a job for staff to help with, wherever Brooks Bank forecourt you are on, the Sainsbury's included. On your own driveway, don't move it at all.

What does AdBlue do in a diesel tank?

The motor isn't what AdBlue is made for; your exhaust is. Its own tank holds it, and from there it's sprayed into your exhaust, where it treats the gas. Not one side fits the other: urea doesn't belong in an injection pump, and a pump cannot take urea.

Inside a diesel tank it acts really differently from fuel. It does not mix in. It's heavier than diesel, so it sinks and collects at the bottom of your tank, which is where the pickup sucks fuel from. Once your pump runs, the AdBlue is first to be pulled through. Until then it sits beneath the diesel, and that is how a vehicle filled in New Scarborough last night and not switched on stays the straightforward case, provided nobody turns the key.

Two kinds of damage follow from there. Crystals and corrosion. As the water dries, it strands urea that crystallises in filter elements and tiny channels; and, since it eats at some metals, each part it touches suffers for as long as it stays inside. Where the AdBlue is in the lines, waiting till morning around Brooks Bank makes it worse. Inside the tank only, time does nothing. Water protects nothing. The high-pressure pump and every injector need diesel running through them, and so the water part harms them by itself.

Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is frequently worse

Petrol pumped into a diesel on Morrisons's forecourt makes the fuel thin — that's the whole issue. It mixes with your diesel, and while it's inside the tank it causes no damage; the harm comes from running the motor on it.

The issue with AdBlue in a diesel is a completely wrong liquid. It doesn't burn, and so it can't simply be run through. Whether your vehicle sits in St Johns or the centre of Brooks Bank, firing it up "to see" costs more with AdBlue than nearly any other error, and the flush counts for more. Why: it will not remain mixed, so watering it down is impossible; and crystals and corrosion survive the next fill.

The same good news applies as with petrol. If the engine has not run, the AdBlue is still inside that tank, and the tank is the easiest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever around West Yorkshire your car is standing.

How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank in Brooks Bank

In dim light, two caps together — the AdBlue cap and the diesel cap, occasionally under one flap — can appear the same. No one means it; plenty of layouts invite it. It usually happens at home, from a container bought en route home, rather than at the forecourt.

Mostly, it happens in one of a few familiar ways. A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up occurs in a hurry outside Wakefield Lawefield Primary School. A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off Westgate End. Or someone unfamiliar with that flap tops up your vehicle in dim light, parked in the car park by The Waggon.

The least known vehicles get it the most — rentals, new cars, fleet cars, and the other vehicle of a home with both fuels. Wherever you are in Brooks Bank or the remainder of West Yorkshire, it is the same mistake and the same first answer: leave the vehicle off.

Started your engine with AdBlue in the diesel tank in Brooks Bank?

Then your tank is no longer where the AdBlue is. Given any running, it travels to the injection pump and each injector, after passing via the filter and pipework.

Lumpy running, smoke from the exhaust, lost power, dashboard warnings or stalling: each may appear, maybe part way across Brooks Bank or returning from Wakefield St Michael's Cricket Club. When you safely can, stop then turn it off — without turning it on again to test. More of that is pulled through with each start.

If you were on the M1, under 3 miles from Brooks Bank, come off at the next exit and stop somewhere safe instead of pressing on.

Each mile pushes the AdBlue deeper in. That is why a hop across Brooks Bank to park near St Michael's Church and a drive of under a mile towards Wakefield are very different jobs. Let us know roughly how far it had come.

Our technicians do all of the rinsing where your car has stopped, and once the engine has been started there is more of it. When it's caught quickly, long-term damage is very rare.

Clearing AdBlue in a diesel in Brooks Bank: what it takes

We come to the vehicle, wherever it has stopped in Brooks Bank: a side street near Markazi Jamia Masjid, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt. Before anything else our engineers ask what was put in, about how much, and whether the motor has been run, because those answers determine the work.

Then the tank is cleared where the car waits, so the polluted fuel and the AdBlue come out together. With AdBlue, far more than with petrol, flushing counts: the fuel system is cleaned right through because residue won't wash away by itself. Next, the fuel filter: flushed, or replaced when it has to be. After that clean diesel, then a check of your car. Engine not run? Then count on roughly half an hour on site for most jobs. Our equipment is explosion-proof, so a busy filling station is no problem, and it is hushed enough for a residential street after dark.

Fresh diesel goes in to prime your system, and that is the last step. You set off as soon as we have started the engine, and it makes no difference whether your car is on a drive in Brooks Bank or in a space outside Wakefield Westgate. Our engineers confirm it runs properly on new diesel before we go. The whole job is done where your car is, so it never has to be taken to a workshop. At the end, you are given paperwork for your insurer: a VAT invoice and a written report from the engineer.

AdBlue in a diesel tank in Brooks Bank: the cost of fixing it

Because each jobs vary, a flat figure would not be honest. Three things shift the cost: whether your engine has run and for how long, how much AdBlue went in, and where the car is. That last one rests on whether a technician can get to it safely, and an open driveway is simpler than a tight gap behind Al Markaz Ul Islami.

Which fluid got in, how much, plus if it ran: each Brooks Bank call opens with exactly that, before a figure, not afterwards. With those replies, the range shrinks to one fixed figure.

Quoted on the call before the engineer heads out, it is paid for on the day — card or phone, no deposit. Many insurance policies include misfuelling cover, and so it's worth checking yours whilst we're on the way.
