AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Brynamman? Keep It Switched Off
If AdBlue has gone into the diesel tank, leave your motor off and leave the ignition off. Water with urea mixed in it: that's AdBlue. The harm starts once it is sucked through the pump — it will not burn, and it won't blend with diesel. In Brynamman, AdBlue in a diesel tank found before the motor runs usually comes down to a drain and a thorough flush, just where your car is. Before you do anything else, ring 0333 366 0103.
Brynamman, AdBlue in your diesel tank: what to do at once
To do:
- Keys out — that way nobody can switch anything on.
- Hazards on, if moving traffic is at all close.
- Hold on to the receipt or the empty bottle, and so you can tell us what went in and about how much.
- Our van locates you fastest with a postcode starting SA18 1, or just the name of a street close by, and so call from the spot.
Never do these:
- Shifting your vehicle even a short way is no reason to start the engine.
- Your ignition remains off: on lots of diesels, turning it on is enough to run the pump.
- Don't top up with diesel to dilute it. AdBlue does not dilute in diesel; it separates out.
- Even a short distance up Cwmgarw Road is too far to drive the vehicle.
- Beside the road, do not try draining it on your own.
Rolling the car away from the pumps is a job for attendants to help with, whichever Brynamman forecourt you are on, the Texaco included. On the drive, your car remains exactly as it was left.
What AdBlue does in a diesel tank
The engine isn't what AdBlue is made for; your exhaust is. It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into the exhaust gas to clean it. A fuel pump is not designed to take it, and AdBlue was never intended to travel through one.
Inside a diesel tank it behaves really differently from fuel. It does not mix in. The pickup sucks fuel from the deepest part of your tank, and that's precisely where AdBlue settles: as it is denser than diesel, it sinks. A motor filled on a driveway in Rhosaman overnight and not started since is the straightforward case. No pump has sucked the AdBlue up yet — but once your engine runs, that's what is pulled first, straight from the bottom of the tank.
It does two kinds of harm from there. What is left when the water goes is urea, which turns into crystals: they settle in narrow passages and clog filters. Worse, it attacks certain metals in the fuel system, and keeps going till it is flushed out. Overnight, a vehicle sitting around Brynamman with AdBlue through its pipework grows worse; where it's only inside the tank, nothing changes. The water in it causes damage of its own: your high-pressure pump and the injectors depend on diesel to lubricate them, and water offers them nothing.
Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is often worse
Top up a diesel with petrol in error over at the Tout's, and this problem is diluted fuel. Blended through your diesel and left unused, it is no threat at that stage; running your engine does the harm.
AdBlue in a diesel is a fault of the wrong substance altogether. It cannot just be run through, because it doesn't burn. Whether your vehicle is in Tairgwaith or the heart of Brynamman, firing it up "to see" does more harm with AdBlue than almost any other mistake, and the flush matters more. The reasons: it won't stay blended, so watering it down fails; and crystals and corrosion survive the following fill.
The good news is the same as with petrol. If your motor has not run, the AdBlue is still inside that tank, and the tank is the simplest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever across Carmarthenshire your car is sitting.
AdBlue in a diesel tank around Brynamman: how it ends up there
It is not on purpose. Plenty of vehicles keep the AdBlue inlet alongside the diesel one, occasionally under one flap, and mixing them up is simple in poor light. Mostly it takes place with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the drive, not at the forecourt.
The ways it takes place are few and familiar. Midway through the drop-off, the dashboard flags it up, and outside the local primary school the top-up is hurried. A driver tips the bottle in outside their house, just off A4069, as the day ends. Or a driver new to that flap refills the car after dark, parked in the car park by the pub in the village.
It happens most in the motors drivers know least: a hire car, a new vehicle, a company car, or the second car of a household with one diesel and one petrol. Anywhere across Carmarthenshire, Brynamman as well, the slip doesn't change, and neither does the first step: leave it switched off.
Already started the engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank around Brynamman?
The AdBlue has left that tank, then. It has been sucked through the fuel filter and the fuel lines, and if the motor ran for any time, it has got to the high-pressure fuel pump and the injectors.
Expect rough running, smoke, lost power, warnings on your dash, or a cut-out — returning from Parc Brynaman, say, or part way across Brynamman. Stop as soon as it is safe, switch off, and do not restart it to check. With each start, more of it is pulled through.
Brynamman lies under 10 miles from the M4; if you were on it, exit at the first junction and pull up somewhere safe rather than carrying on.
A quick hop across Brynamman to the car park by Brynamman Public Hall Cinema is one matter; heading towards Swansea, under 15 miles away, is another, since every mile carries the AdBlue deeper in. So mileage matters. Roughly how far had it come? Tell us.
Once the motor has been started, the flush includes more, and all of it is done where the vehicle has ended up. Lasting damage is very rare if it's caught soon.
What draining AdBlue from a diesel involves in Brynamman
Our engineers come to your car, wherever it has stopped around Brynamman: a side street near Siloam Capel y Bedyddwya, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt. Three replies decide the job, so before anything else our technicians ask what went in, about what quantity, and if your motor has turned over.
Next, emptying the tank right there takes out the contaminated diesel and the AdBlue together. With AdBlue, more so than with petrol, flushing matters: the whole system is cleaned right through because what remains will not flush away unaided. Next, the fuel filter: flushed, or replaced when it has to be. Then clean diesel, and then a check of your vehicle. If the motor has not run, most jobs take about half an hour once our engineers are there. The pumps are explosion-proof, safe on a working forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.
The last step is to prime the system on new diesel. You head off as soon as we have started it, and it makes no difference whether your car is on a driveway around Brynamman or in a bay at Ammanford. Our technicians check it runs smoothly on clean diesel before we go. Since the job is done in full where your car is, a workshop never comes into it. Insurers want a VAT invoice and an engineer report, and both come afterwards.

Anywhere your car stands — your driveway at home, a residential street, a car park, a forecourt — our engineers drain it there, and there's no need to bring it to us; which suits Brynamman, a village, well.
Brynamman: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix
Because the jobs differ, a flat price wouldn't be fair. What changes the price is, firstly, whether the engine has run and for how long; then how much AdBlue got in; and finally where the car is and whether a van can get to it safely, which is easier on an open driveway than in a tight gap behind War Memorial.
That's why each call from Brynamman starts with the same three questions, asked before giving a figure, not after: what got in, how much, and if it's run. When those are known, a range becomes one fixed figure.
Before anyone sets off, you are told the quote on the phone. Then you pay on the day, card or over the phone, with nothing in advance. Look at your policy while we're on the way: plenty carry misfuelling cover.
Brynamman: still alongside the car?
Then the most handy thing you can do is nothing to the car. Keys out; engine and ignition off. Say it's AdBlue, roughly what quantity, and if it ran, on 0333 366 0103. From there Petrol in Diesel handles it, in Brynamman or anywhere in Carmarthenshire.
