AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Cheadle? Keep It Switched Off

AdBlue in the diesel tank? Then leave your motor off — and your ignition too. Chemically, AdBlue is just urea in water. It does not burn, it does not mix with diesel, and the harm it does begins when the system draws it in. Caught before your motor has been run, AdBlue in a diesel tank is normally a drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is around Cheadle. Call 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

Those opening minutes: AdBlue in the diesel tank around Cheadle

To do:

  • So no one can switch your ignition on, pull your keys away.
  • Put the hazard lights on if you're anywhere near moving traffic.
  • So you can give us which fluid it was and roughly what quantity, save your receipt or the empty bottle.
  • Call us from where you are. A postcode starting ST10 1, or the name of the nearest street, gets our van to you without a search.

Not to do:

  • Do not start the motor, even for a moment to move the vehicle.
  • Do not switch the ignition on. On plenty of diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.
  • No extra fuel on top. The AdBlue won't blend, and so it's wasted.
  • Even a short way down Ashbourne Road is too far to drive the vehicle.
  • Don't try to drain it yourself by the roadside.

Rolling your vehicle off the island is a job for staff to help with, wherever Cheadle forecourt you are on, the Knights Of Cheadle or any other. If you're on your own drive, leave the vehicle just where it is.

AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

Made for the exhaust, AdBlue has no place in the engine. It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into the exhaust gas to clean it. Nothing in it is supposed to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is designed to handle it.

Inside a diesel tank it behaves really differently from fuel. It doesn't mix in. Denser than diesel, it sinks and collects below it — the very place the intake draws from. Simplest of all: one that got AdBlue in Brookhouses last night and hasn't been started since. The AdBlue waits at the base of your tank, untouched — though it would be the first thing through if the motor starts, ahead of any diesel at all.

Once it is drawn in, the harm takes two forms. What is left when the water goes is urea, which forms crystals: they lodge in narrow channels and block filters. Worse, it attacks certain metals in the fuel system, and carries on until it is flushed out. If the AdBlue is in the lines, waiting overnight around Cheadle makes it worse. In your tank alone, waiting does nothing. Diesel protects the high-pressure pump and each injector as it flows; water offers no lubrication, and that is a separate kind of harm.

AdBlue in a diesel: why it is often worse than petrol

A fault of thinned fuel is what you end up with from filling a diesel with petrol from the Tean Service Station. Blended through the diesel and left still, it is harmless at that stage; running your engine is the harm.

AdBlue in a diesel is a problem of the wrong substance altogether. Since it does not burn, running it through is not an option. It does not stay mixed, and so it cannot be thinned. And crystals and corrosion don't wash out with the next tank of fuel. That is why the flush counts more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting the engine "to see" costs more here than nearly anywhere else, whether the car is in Mobberley or the middle of Cheadle.

The good news is the same as with petrol. Clearing a tank is the simplest job on a fuel system, and with no running, the AdBlue stays in there — anywhere around Staffordshire the vehicle sits.

AdBlue in a diesel tank around Cheadle: how it ends up there

Nobody means to do it. The AdBlue filler on plenty of vehicles rests right next to the diesel filler, occasionally under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light. Most of the time it happens with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the driveway, not at the forecourt.

A couple of familiar ways cover most cases. Hurrying, outside St Giles' Catholic Primary School, after a warning light came on during the school run, a parent tops up the car. After work, a container goes in on a drive close to Tape Street. Or a driver new to that flap refills the vehicle in dim light, parked in the car park by The Lamplighter.

Rented motors, brand-new vehicles, company motors, or the second car in a family with both fuels: the least known vehicles get it most. Anywhere around Staffordshire, Cheadle as well, the slip doesn't change, and nor does the first step: leave it switched off.

Already started the engine with AdBlue in the diesel tank around Cheadle?

If so, the AdBlue is no longer in the tank. Given any running time, it goes on to the high-pressure pump and every injector, having passed through the fuel filter and pipework.

Lumpy running, smoke, dropping power, dashboard lights or stalling: any might show up, maybe midway across Cheadle or returning from war gardens. Pull over when safe. Turn off. Leave the car off instead of testing it again. Each start pulls more of it through.

Cheadle sits under 10 miles from the M6; if you were on it, leave by the next junction and pull up somewhere safe rather than carrying on.

Hopping across Cheadle to the car park by Cheadle Methodist Church is one thing; driving for Stoke-on-Trent, under 10 miles away, is another, because every mile carries the AdBlue further in. So mileage matters. Roughly how far it had come is worth telling us.

Once the engine has run, the flush takes in more, and all of it is done where the car has stopped. Permanent damage is very unusual if it's caught early.

What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve around Cheadle?

We come to your car, wherever it has stopped around Cheadle: a side street close to Cheadle New Life Church, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt. Before anything else our engineers ask what went in, roughly how much, and whether your engine has run, because those replies determine this work.

Then the tank is drained where your car stands, so the polluted fuel and the AdBlue come out together. With AdBlue, far more than with petrol, flushing counts: the whole system is cleaned all the way through since what remains won't wash away by itself. Clean diesel goes in after the filter is flushed — or replaced, if it needs to be — and then your vehicle is tested. Most of these jobs are a half-hour visit once we arrive, if your engine hasn't run. Our equipment is explosion-proof, and so a live filling station is no problem, and it's hushed enough for a residential street late at night.

Priming the system with fresh diesel comes at the end. You head off as soon as our engineers have fired it up, and it makes no difference whether your car is on a drive around Cheadle or in a bay by Blythe Bridge. It's tested on new diesel to make sure it runs correctly before our engineers head off. We do it all wherever the vehicle has ended up, and it never has to be taken to a workshop. Insurers want a VAT invoice and an engineer report, and you get both at the end.

AdBlue drains across Staffordshire, Cheadle included

AdBlue jobs in Cheadle go to vans that serve the towns around it — Cheadle Park, Lightwood as well as Rakeway — and much of Staffordshire beyond, across ST postcodes. Near a boundary, or somewhere awkward to pin down? Checking beats assuming, and so ring.

A van that comes to you fits Cheadle, a riverside town: there's no need to take the vehicle to us, because our engineers drain it on the spot, in a drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt.

What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out in Cheadle?

Every job is different, so not one fixed price would be fair. What changes the cost is, first of all, whether your engine has run and for how long; then how much AdBlue got in; and then where the vehicle is and whether a van can get to it safely, which is simpler on an open driveway than in a tight gap behind Cheadle Spear.

What was put in, what quantity, plus whether the engine ran: every Cheadle call opens by asking exactly that, before any figure, never after. When those are known, a range becomes one firm figure.

Before a van heads out, you are told our price on the phone. Then you pay on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront. Look at your policy whilst we're on the way: plenty carry misfuelling cover.
