AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Clarksfield? Don't Start It

If AdBlue has gone into your diesel tank, keep the motor off and keep the ignition off. Urea mixed in water is what AdBlue is. The trouble begins once it is sucked through the pump — it will not ignite, and it won't combine with diesel. If the engine has not run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is normally drained and carefully rinsed where the car stands around Clarksfield. Before anything, phone us on 0333 366 0103.

AdBlue in your diesel tank in Clarksfield: the first few minutes

Do these:

  • Pocket the keys, which stops anyone switching the electrics on.
  • Close to moving traffic? Then put your hazards on.
  • Which product, and about how much amount? Hang on to the bottle or the receipt, and our engineers will know.
  • Our van finds you fastest with a postcode starting OL4 1, or just the name of a street close by, and so call from the car.

Do not do these:

  • No starting the motor — not briefly, not to shift your vehicle.
  • The ignition remains off: on lots of diesels, turning it on is enough to start the fuel pump.
  • AdBlue does not dilute in diesel — it separates out — so adding more fuel won't weaken it.
  • Even a short stretch up Goss Hall Street is too far to drive it.
  • Emptying your tank on your own beside the road is not one to try.

Moving the car away from the island is a job for attendants to help with, whichever Clarksfield forecourt you're on, the Shell or any other. On your own drive, do not move it at all.

AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

Made for the exhaust, AdBlue has no business in your motor. From a separate tank it is fed directly to the exhaust, treating what the engine emits. Nothing in it is supposed to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is built to handle it.

It doesn't blend. After it is tipped into a tank of diesel, AdBlue acts nothing like fuel. The pickup takes fuel from the deepest part of that tank, and that is precisely where AdBlue settles: as it is heavier than diesel, it sinks. The first thing the system pulls through, after it runs, is the AdBlue. So a vehicle that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Moorhey last night, and hasn't been started since, is still the straightforward case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of the tank, and nothing has drawn it in.

After it's drawn in, the harm takes two forms. It eats at some metals found in fuel components, working on any part it touches until it is cleared completely. And once the water evaporates, the urea forms crystals that block filters and lodge in tiny passages. Overnight, a vehicle parked around Clarksfield with AdBlue through its pipework grows worse; if it is just inside the tank, nothing changes. The water in it causes damage of its own: the high-pressure pump and the injectors rely on diesel to lubricate them, and water offers them nothing.

Draining AdBlue from a diesel tank in Clarksfield

Why AdBlue in a diesel is often more major than petrol

Put petrol in a diesel at the Tesco and you have a problem of thin fuel. It mixes with the diesel, and while it is inside that tank it causes no damage; the harm comes from running your motor on it.

AdBlue in a diesel is a problem of the wrong substance altogether. It does not burn, and so it can't simply be run through. Deposits and corrosion remain through the following tankful, and AdBlue separates back from the diesel, and so watering it can't work. Hence the flush matters more, and trying your engine "to see" costs more with AdBlue than nearly any other slip — in Greenacres or the heart of Clarksfield equally.

As with petrol, there is good news. If your motor has not run, the AdBlue is still in your tank, and the tank is the simplest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever around Greater Manchester the vehicle is sitting.

How does AdBlue end up in a diesel tank around Clarksfield?

Many cars put the AdBlue cap beside the diesel one, occasionally under one flap, and after dark the two may appear identical. No one intends it. Mostly it occurs with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the driveway, not at the pump.

Usually, it happens in one of a couple of familiar ways. The refill is hurried outside Oasis Academy Clarksfield, after the dash flashed with a warning as the children were dropped off. A driver tips the bottle in at home, just off Bridson Street, as the day ends. Or your car is topped up in the car park at The Bridge Inn, in poor light, by a person who has never opened that flap before.

The least known vehicles see it most — hire cars, brand-new cars, company cars, and the spare vehicle of a family with one of each fuel types. Wherever you're in Clarksfield or the remainder of Greater Manchester, it is the same error and the same first answer: leave it off.

Already started the engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank in Clarksfield?

Then the tank is no longer where the AdBlue is. With any running, it goes on to the high-pressure pump and each injector, after passing via your filter and pipework.

Perhaps coming back from Becket Meadows, or part way across Clarksfield, the motor may run lumpy, smoke, drop pace, light up your dash or cut out. Stop as soon as it is safe, switch off, and do not restart it to check. More of it is pulled through with each start.

If you were on the Broadway, under 3 miles from Clarksfield, come off at the next exit and stop somewhere safe rather than pressing on.

How far it went matters. A few hundred yards across Clarksfield to the car park by Bilal Jamia Mosque is a very different job from a run towards Manchester, under 10 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into the fuel system with every mile. Roughly how far had it come? Tell us.

Our engineers do all of the rinsing where the vehicle has come to a stop, and once the engine has run there is more of it. When it's caught quickly, permanent damage is very unusual.

What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve around Clarksfield?

A road by St Annes Church, a drive, a layby or a filling station: anywhere your vehicle has stopped around Clarksfield, our technicians travel to it. The job depends on three answers, which our technicians ask for before all else — what went in, the quantity, and if your motor has run.

Next, draining the tank on the spot removes the polluted diesel and the AdBlue together. A careful flush counts far more with AdBlue than with petrol, because residue won't wash away on its own. After that, the filter: flushed, or replaced when it must be. After that fresh diesel, and then a test of your car. If the motor has not run, most jobs take about half an hour once we arrive. Quiet enough for use outside a house at night, and safe on a busy forecourt, the pumps are explosion-proof.

Last, your system is bled with new diesel. You head off as soon as we have fired it up, and it makes no difference whether your car is on a driveway in Clarksfield or in a space at Mossley (Manchester). Before we leave, we check it is running correctly with fresh diesel in. No garage is required at any point, with the entire job done then and there. You get a VAT invoice and an engineer report later on, which is what insurers want.

About Clarksfield, for a moment

AdBlue drains around Clarksfield and across Greater Manchester

AdBlue call-outs around Clarksfield go to teams that cover the places around it — Greenacres Moor, New Earth plus Townfield — and most of Greater Manchester further out, throughout OL postcodes. Guessing doesn't help close to a county line or anywhere hard to pin down; ring and ask.

Clarksfield is a residential suburb, and a call-out drain suits it: whether the car is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, our engineers drain it where it stands, so it never needs to be moved to us.

What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out around Clarksfield?

Every job is different, so no fixed price would be honest. The price moves first with how long, if at all, your engine has been running, and next with the quantity of AdBlue that was put in. After that it turns on where the car is and whether a technician can get to it safely, which is simpler on an open drive than in a tight gap behind Madressa Taleem-ul-Quran and Qurtaba Masjid.

What got in, what quantity, plus whether the engine ran: every Clarksfield enquiry begins by asking exactly those, ahead of any quote, never afterwards. Given those replies, the range shrinks to a single firm figure.

The price is quoted during the call, before a van leaves; settling up comes on the day, by card or over the phone, and nothing upfront. While our engineer is travelling, dig out your policy: plenty cover misfuelling.
