Preventing AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Cubbington: Why It Occurs
If AdBlue is already in your diesel tank, stop reading for a moment: leave the engine and the ignition off then ring 0333 366 0103. Normally, when your motor has not turned, it's drained and thoroughly flushed where the car sits in Cubbington. Not happened yet? Further down, the page covers the why it takes place and the ways to prevent it altogether.
AdBlue in a diesel vehicle, and its separate tank
Many modern diesels around Blackdown, as well as Cubbington, carry on two liquids; your motor takes only your diesel. AdBlue goes to the exhaust, where it is sprayed into the gas to fresh it, and it lives in a tank of its own.
Each tank has a filler of its own. Other vehicles put the AdBlue filler in your boot or under the bonnet; a lot more place both side by side under one flap. The diesel side is topped up at the petrol pump all the time. Rarely filled, AdBlue normally goes in out of a bottle, tipped by a driver who has to stop and think which filler to use. It is in the gap that the slip lives.
AdBlue in your diesel tank in Cubbington: how it occurs
Carelessness rarely causes it. Instead is three things lining up together.
Hurry comes from the warning. The vehicle warns you as AdBlue runs low, and a dry tank sends the vehicle into limp mode — so the top-up happens in a rush, before work on a drive off Queen Street, or on the way home in the car park outside Kings Head.
The old car's cap is where the hand goes — yet a hire car, a new car or a company car keeps the fillers somewhere else. That's the second thing: a strange car.
Lastly, the spout fits: a diesel filler or AdBlue one, it slides in as readily, and after the tip starts, nothing stops it. Lillington or the middle of Cubbington: it is the same few seconds either way.
Which filler is for AdBlue, and which for diesel?
A couple of seconds is all these take — so check them before you pour anything, on a drive in Offchurch or a forecourt in Cubbington.
- The cap. The AdBlue cap is commonly blue, or marked "AdBlue". Your diesel cap normally is not. Read it instead of going by position.
- On plenty of cars, the size tells: AdBlue has the smaller filler neck.
- A label inside your fuel flap frequently says which fuel goes where, on plenty of cars. Look for it.
- The handbook. If the filler isn't by your diesel cap, it's in your boot or under the bonnet, and the handbook says which.
- Ask the person who drove it last — before you leave, not when the light comes on — if you collect a hire or company car from somewhere like the car park at Leamington Spa.
How to top up without AdBlue in your diesel tank
A routine for the day the light comes on, wherever around Warwickshire that is.
- Pull in on level, engine off, with time in hand — not hurried on the side of High Street.
- Find the AdBlue filler, check the cap, and speak the word "AdBlue" aloud as you unscrew it. It seems daft. It works.
- Leave your diesel cap on. If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle.
- Using the bottle's own spout, tip slowly — and stop when it is full or the bottle is empty.
- Close the cap, and check once more — confirm your diesel cap stayed closed the whole time. Only then, start the car.
Spot at step two or three that it has already gone into the diesel side? So stop right there. Skip stage five altogether.
AdBlue in the diesel tank already, in Cubbington?
Brief order, then. Top of it: your motor stays off. On many diesels the ignition alone runs the fuel pump, and so do not switch the vehicle on. Diluting it with extra diesel won't work, because AdBlue sinks to the base rather than mixing — and that's where your fuel is drawn from.
The attendants at Shell, Esso or another forecourt will usually lend a hand pushing the car away if asked. On your own drive in Cubbington? Then the vehicle remains put.
Stop as soon as it is safe then switch off, if the motor has already run. On the M40, under 10 miles from Cubbington, that means the next exit. Distance counts — a quick hop across Cubbington is a smaller job than heading under 10 miles to Coventry — so say roughly how far it went.
Cubbington: what occurs when we turn up
By Cubbington CofE Primary School, close to Cubbington Village Hall or on your own drive: wherever your car has stopped, our engineers come to it. What liquid got in, the quantity, and whether it ran: our technicians ask because the answers set both work and quote. No one sets off before you've heard the quote over the phone.
Emptying the tank comes next, followed by a thorough flush of the system. Much more than with petrol, it matters with AdBlue: crystals form, some metals corrode, and none of it washes away on its own, however long it is left. A test comes at the end: before that, fresh diesel goes in, and the filter is cleaned or changed if necessary. The motor is started next and tested to confirm it runs correctly, all before our engineers head off.
If your motor hasn't run, the majority of jobs take about half an hour once we are there, using pumps that are safe on a working forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night. The insurer will ask for the engineer's report and the VAT invoice, and you get both at the end. Payment is on the day, with no deposit. Many insurance policies include misfuelling cover, and so it's worth checking yours while we are on the way.
