Don't Start It: AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Cyprus

If AdBlue has gone into the diesel tank, keep your engine off then keep your ignition off. AdBlue is urea dissolved in water. As it is water-based, it won't burn and won't blend with diesel; damage only starts when the pump begins drawing it. A drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is around Cyprus, is usually all AdBlue in a diesel tank needs — if it's caught before your motor has run. Call 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

Those opening minutes: AdBlue in the diesel tank in Cyprus

Things to do:

  • Remove your keys, which prevents anyone switching the power on.
  • Near moving traffic? So put the hazard lights on.
  • The empty bottle or the receipt shows us the fluid and the quantity, and so don't throw it out.
  • Tell us a postcode starting E6 5, or whichever street is closest, and our van finds you directly — so call from wherever you stand.

Not to do:

  • Shifting your vehicle just a few yards is no reason to fire up the motor.
  • The ignition remains off: on many diesels, switching it on is enough to start your fuel pump.
  • AdBlue doesn't dilute in diesel — it separates out — so adding extra fuel won't weaken it.
  • Keep the vehicle where it is rather than driving it anywhere, even a short distance down Devalls Close.
  • No emptying it yourself, either, at the roadside.

On a forecourt in Cyprus, whether it is the Asda or another one, ask the staff to help you push the vehicle away from the pump. On that drive, the car stays exactly as it is.

AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

Not the engine but your exhaust is where AdBlue belongs. It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into the exhaust gas to clean it. Nothing inside an injection pump is designed for this fluid — and none of that was meant to go that way.

Poured in with the diesel, it keeps apart rather than mixing — quite different from fuel. Heavier than diesel, it drops and collects below it — the very place the intake sucks from. When the system runs, the AdBlue is top of the list to be pulled through. Before then it waits beneath the diesel, and that is why a vehicle topped up in Custom House last night and never started remains the straightforward case, provided no one turns your key.

Two kinds of damage come from there. Crystals and corrosion. As the water dries, it strands urea that crystallises in filter elements and narrow passages; and, because it attacks some metals, each part it reaches keeps suffering for as long as it remains inside. If the AdBlue is in the pipework, waiting till morning in Cyprus makes things worse. Inside the tank alone, waiting does nothing. Then there's the water: it offers no protection to the parts that rely on it the most — the high-pressure pump and each injector.

AdBlue in a diesel: why it's frequently worse than petrol

A fault of thinned fuel is what you get from filling a diesel with petrol at the Tesco Petrol. No damage comes as long as it sits put, blended into your diesel — only once the engine runs on it.

The issue with AdBlue in a diesel is a totally unsuitable liquid. Because it does not burn, running it through is not an option. It doesn't stay mixed, so it can't be diluted. And crystals and corrosion do not wash out with the next tank of fuel. That's why the flush counts more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting the engine "to see" costs more here than almost anywhere else, whether the vehicle is in Royal Arsenal West or the middle of Cyprus.

The same good news holds as with petrol. Wherever around Greater London your car has stopped, an unrun motor means the AdBlue still inside the tank: the simplest bit of any fuel system to empty.

How does AdBlue end up in a diesel tank in Cyprus?

In dim light, two caps together — the AdBlue one and the diesel one, occasionally behind one flap — can look the same. Nobody intends it; many layouts allow it. It usually happens outside the house, from a container bought en route home, not at the filling station.

The ways it happens are few and familiar. The refill is rushed outside Winsor Primary School, after the dash lit up with a warning while the children were taken off. A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off Yeoman Close. One more version: darkness, the car park by Brewers Fayre, and a driver opening that flap the first time.

It happens most in the vehicles drivers know least: a hire car, a new car, a company car, or the second motor of a household with one diesel and one petrol. Leave it off: that's the first step to the same mistake, wherever around Cyprus or the remainder of Greater London you are.

AdBlue in your diesel tank in Cyprus, and the motor started?

Then the AdBlue has left the tank. With any running, it travels to the high-pressure pump and each injector, after passing through your filter and lines.

Lumpy running, smoke, lost power, dashboard warnings or cutting out: each may show up, perhaps midway across Cyprus or returning from The Green. Pull over when safe. Turn off. Leave it off instead of restarting it to check. With each start, more of it is pulled through.

If you were on the M11, under 10 miles from Cyprus, come off at the next exit and stop somewhere sensible instead of pressing on.

Hopping across Cyprus to the car park by Outdoor Sport Centre is one matter; heading towards London, under 10 miles away, is something else, since every mile carries the AdBlue deeper in. So mileage matters. Tell us about how far it had come.

Once the motor has been started, the flush takes in more, and all of it is done where your car has stopped. Permanent damage is very unusual when it's noticed early.

Cyprus: how AdBlue is cleared from a diesel

Wherever it has stopped around Cyprus — a forecourt, a layby, a drive, a road by Beckton Community Centre — the van comes to the vehicle. The job rests on three replies, and we ask for before all else — which fluid got in, the quantity, and if the motor has run.

Right there, that tank is then emptied, and all of the polluted diesel and the urea come out at once. A careful flush counts far more with AdBlue than after petrol, because residue won't wash out on its own. A test of the car follows last, once fresh diesel goes in and your filter is cleaned or, where necessary, swapped. Engine not run? In that case expect roughly half an hour on site for most jobs. Low-noise enough to use outside a house at night, and safe on a working forecourt, the pumps are explosion-proof.

Finally, your system is primed with new diesel. You drive off as soon as our engineers have started it, and it makes no difference whether the vehicle is on a driveway in Cyprus or in a bay outside Woolwich. Before we leave, our technicians make sure it's running smoothly with fresh diesel in. The whole job is done where the car is, so it never has to go to a workshop. You receive a VAT invoice and an engineer report after that, which is what insurers ask for.

About Cyprus

Cyprus is a suburban area in Greater London, situated approximately 6.8 miles from the city centre. Cyprus sits at a low elevation of around 3 metres, characteristic of the Thames Valley. Cyprus is predominantly composed of flat dwellings, reflecting the typical urban residential pattern of London's suburbs. Cyprus is close to nearby places such as Cavendish Square, Beckton, and North Woolwich.

AdBlue drains across Cyprus and Greater London

The teams that answer AdBlue calls around Cyprus also cover the spots about it, Cavendish Square, Beckton and North Woolwich among them, and most of Greater London beyond, across the E postcode area. Near a boundary, or anywhere awkward to explain? Asking is better than assuming, and so phone.

No towing is needed. In Cyprus, a residential suburb, a van that comes to you fits: the car is emptied where it stands, whether in a driveway, a residential street, a car park or a filling station.

Cyprus: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

There's no fair single quote, because the jobs aren't the same. Three things shift the cost: whether the motor has run and for how long, how much AdBlue went in, and where the car is. That last one turns on whether a van can reach it safely, and an open driveway is easier than a tight spot behind Timeless Flight.

Which fluid was put in, what quantity, and whether it ran: each Cyprus call opens with exactly those, ahead of any quote, never after. Once those are known, a range turns into a single firm figure.

Before anyone heads out, you are told our price by phone. Then payment is on the day, card or by phone, with nothing in advance. Look at your policy while we are on the way: plenty include misfuelling cover.

Cyprus: still alongside the vehicle?

Then, the most helpful thing to do with your car is to leave it. Keys out, motor off, ignition off. Call 0333 366 0103 and tell us it's AdBlue, about how much, and if it has run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, in Cyprus or anywhere across Greater London.
