Dowry: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Find Your Situation
Has your motor turned over since the AdBlue got in? This one point decides nearly everything about what comes next. Not run yet? Then leave it that way, whether your car is — Dowry or Over Leigh. Call 0333 366 0103 with the ignition and motor both off. Across Dowry, that is generally emptied and flushed on the spot. Stop the moment you safely can then switch off, if it has already run. The job is bigger, yet the first step is the same.
Find the situation below that matches yours, wherever in Derbyshire it happened.
AdBlue in a diesel on a Dowry forecourt
You are at the petrol pump, the nozzle or the bottle still in your hand, and you have just noticed the cap you opened was the wrong one. Anywhere around Dowry, then — Tesco, New Mills Marina Diesel Pump, or anywhere else nearby.
In short: no better spot to be to discover it. Only that tank has AdBlue; not one part past it has taken it in.
Your move: keep out of the driver's seat, however much the queue wants clearing. Get the staff to lend a hand rolling it into a space, hold on to the receipt, then ring us from there. If it cannot be shifted, it can be emptied at the petrol pump: the equipment is explosion-proof and fine on a working forecourt.
AdBlue in your diesel tank on a Dowry drive?
Days had passed with the dash light on. A bottle from the garage, tipped in at the driveway — and it's only at the recycling that the cap caught a second look. Homes just off Lower Macclesfield Road get hit as much as anywhere else.
What it means: if you haven't driven since, this is almost as good as the forecourt. On the floor of the tank is exactly where AdBlue stays, since it will not mix with diesel — and a night going by changes nothing of the difference.
Your move: the keys in the house, so no one drives your car off first thing. Then, ring. Out in New Horwich or here in Dowry, the draining happens at your drive. Even at night, the pumps are quiet enough for a driveway.
Dowry: set off with AdBlue in a diesel?
Topped up, drove away, and before long your motor was turning roughly, smoking, losing power, or lighting up the dash. Maybe driving to Manchester, under 25 miles away, or simply along Reddish Lane.
Meaning? Your pump has taken the AdBlue up. It has been through the fuel filter and the fuel lines and, the further you went, into your high-pressure pump and the injectors. Every restart, like every mile, pushes it deeper.
Your move: pull up anywhere safe, then turn the engine off. On the M60, under 10 miles from Dowry, that means the next exit, not the services further on. Do not restart the car to see if it has cleared; it will not have. Tell us hear the mileage covered when you call.
AdBlue in the wrong tank of a hire, lease or company car
It is a vehicle you have had for a week. Unknown to you, the two inlets sit side by side here — unlike your own vehicle, which has none or stores it elsewhere. Wherever you happen to be across Derbyshire, every driver can be caught.
The point: exactly as above, divided by whether it ran, but with an added stage. Plenty of hire and company contracts want the owner to approve work on the car.
Your move: hire firm or your fleet manager to begin with, us second, because sorting it beforehand saves time. Stranded by Whaley Bridge Centre for Sports or outside Whaley Bridge till the firm answers, the car remains turned off the whole time.
AdBlue in your diesel tank? Not sure, in Dowry
Sometimes the fair answer is "I think so". A slight ammonia smell lingers around your filler, the bottle seems too light, and which cap came off is a blur. Maybe it happened in a hurry at the school gates at Taxal and Fernilee CofE Primary School, or on a friend's drive in Whaley Bridge.
Put simply: spillage round the filler leaves your motor unharmed. Inside the diesel tank, however, AdBlue harms it. Firing up the car won't tell you which, and if there is AdBlue in the tank it will suck it in.
Take it that it went in, and don't turn your engine. Phone and give what you saw: we would sooner find a tank free of AdBlue than empty one once your engine has been run.
Dowry: what each AdBlue drain has in common
The work begins identically, whatever the case. Filling station, drive, The Cock's car park or a road beside Holy Trinity — the van reaches your car, and three questions follow: what fluid, what quantity, and if it ran. Answers shape the work; the price follows on the call while no one has set off yet.
Then that tank is drained and your system rinsed thoroughly, which matters more with AdBlue than with petrol: AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it doesn't rinse out on its own. Then comes your filter — flushed, or swapped when needed — followed by clean diesel, and a test of the vehicle. If your engine has not run, the majority of jobs take about half an hour once we're there.
The final step is starting the car. With fresh diesel in, it runs while our engineers check it's running smoothly, and then we leave. Permanent damage is very uncommon when it is noticed quickly, and the whole job is done where the vehicle is. Nothing is paid upfront, settlement is made on the day, and you get what the insurer wants: an engineer report plus a VAT invoice. It is worth remembering: lots of insurers offer misfuelling cover, and so a check of your policy while we travel is worthwhile.

AdBlue drains across Derbyshire, Dowry included
Dowry is a residential suburb, and the same teams that cover it work the towns around it too, Taxal and Horwich End among them, across the SK postcode area. A postcode starting SK23 7 is the quickest way to tell us where you are.
Whether the car is on a lay-by on the way to Memorial Park or in a car park in the middle of Dowry, it does not need to shift. Wherever it stands, that is where it gets cleared. Ring and ask rather than guess when you are by Little Memorial Garden, near a boundary, or anywhere awkward to pin down.
