AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Elderslie: What Now?

One fact matters above all once AdBlue is in a diesel tank, and it is if your motor has run since. Out in Brediland or right in Elderslie, an unrun motor must stay that way. Call 0333 366 0103 with your key and engine both off. In Elderslie, such a case is typically drained and cleaned on the spot. Already run? Pull over when safe, then turn it off. A larger job, then, but the same first move.

Further down: the situations we meet, wherever around Renfrewshire. Choose the one that fits.

Elderslie forecourt: AdBlue in a diesel at the pump

You're at the pump, the nozzle or the bottle still in your hand, and you have just noticed the cap you opened was the wrong one. It could be the Esso, or perhaps the Asda, or a different station in Elderslie.

The upshot: of every spot to notice, this is the best. Nothing has pulled it in, and so the AdBlue stays only inside your tank.

What to do: do not get back in and crank it to clear the petrol pump. A few jobs: a shove into a space with the attendants helping, the receipt kept, and a ring to us from where you stand. If it cannot be moved, it can be emptied at the petrol pump: the equipment is explosion-proof and fine on a busy forecourt.

Elderslie, at home: AdBlue in your diesel tank

Several days had gone by with the warning light on. Picked up a bottle, tipped it in outside the house, recycled the empty — and at that point checked the cap a second time, after the fact. Homes just off Renshaw Road are caught out as much as everywhere else.

In short: if the car has not moved since, it is nearly as good as finding out at the forecourt. As it is reluctant to mix, AdBlue drops low in the tank and stays. One night standing changes nothing.

Keep the keys indoors overnight — otherwise someone might take it away at breakfast — then phone us. Out in Millarston or right here in Elderslie, the drain happens at your drive. Our pumping kit works quiet enough that it won't wake the neighbours at night.

Drove off with AdBlue in a diesel in Elderslie?

Filled up, drove away, and before long the motor was running roughly, smoking, down on power, or flashing up your dash. It might have been driving to Glasgow, under 10 miles away, or simply along Meadowside Avenue.

Put simply: the AdBlue has been sucked through your fuel system. It's been through your filter and the lines and, the further you went, into the high-pressure fuel pump and your injectors. It goes deeper with each extra mile covered and each restart.

Do this: stop anywhere safe, then turn the engine off. Leave at the next junction — not the services further along — if you are on the M8, under 3 miles from Elderslie. It will not have cleared, so there is no sense starting it again to check. Call us and say how far you drove.

A hire or company car with AdBlue in the wrong tank?

It is a car you have had for a week. On your own vehicle, AdBlue is absent or somewhere else. On this one, the inlet is right by your diesel inlet — a surprise to you. It can happen to anyone, anywhere across Renfrewshire.

Put simply: one extra stage on top of the situations above, and those depend on whether it has run. Plenty of rental and fleet agreements require the owner's approval for repairs.

What to do: call the hire firm or your fleet manager first, then us. That's faster settled before our engineers arrive than after. Stuck by Wallace Memorial or outside Johnstone until someone answers, your vehicle stays turned off the whole time.

AdBlue in your diesel tank? Not sure, around Elderslie

Truthfully, the only answer may be that you think so. Which cap was taken off, you cannot recall; meanwhile the bottle feels less than expected, and a whiff of ammonia hangs by the filler. The gates of the local primary school in a hurry, perhaps, or someone's driveway out in Johnstone.

What it means: a little spilled round your filler does no damage to your motor. Once it's inside the diesel tank, though, it does. You cannot tell which by turning the key, and doing so will pull in any AdBlue that is in that tank.

Next: assume it went in, then leave your engine off. Ring us and explain what you saw; we'd rather check a tank that turns out free of AdBlue than drain one that has already been run.

The common ground in each Elderslie AdBlue drain

Whichever situation you are in, this job starts the same way. Forecourt, driveway, The Thorn Inn's car park or a street by War Memorial — our van comes to your car, and three answers follow: which liquid, what quantity, and whether it has run. Answers shape the work; the price follows on the call while no one has left yet.

A thorough flush follows this drain. With petrol it is routine; with AdBlue it is crucial, because deposits build up and some metals are attacked, and neither washes out unaided. Then comes the fuel filter — flushed, or replaced when needed — followed by clean diesel, and a test of the vehicle. Where your engine hasn't been started, expect about half an hour once we arrive, in most cases.

The final step is starting it. With clean diesel in, it runs while our engineers check it's running correctly, and then we go. Long-term damage is very rare when it's caught early, and the entire job is done where the vehicle is. For your insurer: an engineer's report and the VAT invoice. For you: payment on the day, nothing upfront. Check your insurance while we're en route: cover for misfuelling comes included in plenty of policies.

AdBlue drains across Renfrewshire, Elderslie included

Quarrelton and Foxbar get the same vans as Elderslie, a village, along with other places throughout PA postcodes. A postcode starting PA5 9 is the quickest way to tell us where you are.

Whether the vehicle is on a lay-by on the way to Elderslie Golf Club or in a car park in the middle of Elderslie, it does not need to shift. The van empties it in place. Ring and ask rather than guess if you are close to Keanie Park, on a border, or somewhere awkward to explain.
