AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Falsgrave? Keep It Switched Off
If AdBlue has got into the diesel tank, leave the engine off and leave the ignition off. AdBlue is urea mixed in water. The harm begins once it's pulled through your pump — it will not ignite, and it won't blend with diesel. A drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is in Falsgrave, is normally all AdBlue in a diesel tank takes — if it is caught before your motor has run. Before you do anything else, ring 0333 366 0103.
Falsgrave, AdBlue in the diesel tank: what to do at once
Do these:
- So no one can turn the ignition on, pull the keys away.
- Hazards on, if moving traffic is anywhere near.
- The empty bottle or the receipt tells us the product and the amount, so don't throw it out.
- Call just where you are. Quote a YO12 4 postcode or the closest street name, and nobody has to search for you.
Things not to do:
- Moving your car just a short way is no reason to start the engine.
- Turning the key to ignition alone sets your pump going on plenty of diesels. Skip it.
- AdBlue does not dilute in diesel — it separates out — so adding more diesel will not weaken it.
- Do not drive the vehicle anywhere, not even a short distance down Seamer Road.
- Beside the road, do not attempt draining it yourself.
Rolling your vehicle off the pumps is a job for staff to help with, whichever Falsgrave forecourt you're on, the Penny Petrolium included. At your own drive, don't touch it at all.
What does AdBlue do in a diesel tank?
Made for the exhaust, AdBlue has no place in the motor. It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into your exhaust gas to clean it. A fuel pump is not designed to take it, and AdBlue was never supposed to go through one.
Fuel mixes; AdBlue, after tipped in, won't. Its behaviour is nothing like diesel's. The intake sucks fuel from the lowest part of the tank, and that's just where AdBlue settles: being denser than diesel, it sinks. A car filled on a driveway in Weaponness overnight and left unstarted counts as the simple one. No pump has pulled the AdBlue up so far — though once your motor runs, that's what goes first, straight from the bottom of that tank.
It does two kinds of harm from there. What is left when the water evaporates is urea, which forms crystals: they settle in tiny channels and block filters. Worse, it eats at certain metals in a fuel system, and carries on until it is flushed out. Lines holding AdBlue mean harm overnight for a vehicle sitting around Falsgrave. Only in that tank, it stays the same. Water lubricates nothing. The high-pressure pump and each injector need diesel running past them, so the water content damages them by itself.
AdBlue in a diesel: why it is frequently worse than petrol
Fill a diesel with petrol by mistake at the Sainsbury's, and the issue is diluted fuel. Damage just comes from driving on it. Blended into your diesel and left in your tank, it does nothing.
The issue with AdBlue in a diesel is a totally unsuitable substance. It cannot simply be run through, because it does not burn. Deposits and corrosion stay after the following fill, and AdBlue separates again from your diesel, so watering it can't help. Hence the flush counts so much, and turning your key "to see" does more harm with AdBlue than nearly any other mistake — in St Nicholas Cliff or the heart of Falsgrave alike.
The good news is the same as with petrol. Wherever across North Yorkshire your vehicle has stopped, an unrun motor means the AdBlue yet inside the reservoir: the easiest part of any fuel system to clear.
How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank around Falsgrave
In dim light, two caps side by side — the AdBlue cap and the diesel cap, now and then under a single flap — may appear the same. No one intends it; plenty of designs invite it. A bottle picked up when driving home and tipped in at home, instead of at the filling station, is the usual story.
A few familiar ways account for most cases. Midway through the drop-off, the dashboard flags it up, and outside Thomas Hinderwell Primary Academy the top-up is rushed. After work, a container is tipped in on a drive near West Bank. Or someone unfamiliar with that flap tops up the vehicle after dark, stopped in the car park outside Tap & Spile.
Rented cars, brand-new vehicles, fleet cars, or the spare vehicle in a family with one of each: the least known cars see it the most. An identical mistake, same first step — keep it off — wherever you are in Falsgrave or the remainder of North Yorkshire.
Started the motor with AdBlue in the diesel tank in Falsgrave?
Then the AdBlue has left your tank. It's been drawn through the filter and the lines, and if your engine ran for any time, it has got to the high-pressure fuel pump and your injectors.
Rough running, smoke, dropping power, dashboard lights or cutting out: any might show up, perhaps midway across Falsgrave or returning from Falsgrave Park. Stop when it is safe. Turn off. Keep it off instead of testing it again. With each start, more of that is pulled through.
If you were on the Petuaria Way, under 50 miles from Falsgrave, come off at the next junction and stop somewhere safe instead of pressing on.
A quick hop across Falsgrave to the car park by St James with Holy Trinity is one matter; heading towards York, under 50 miles away, is another, since every mile pushes the AdBlue deeper in. So distance counts. Let us know about how far it had come.
There is more to rinse out once the motor has run, and our technicians do all of it where the car has come to a stop. Very rarely does it leave long-term damage if it's caught soon.
Falsgrave: how AdBlue is cleared from a diesel
The car remains put, whether that's a street near Methodist United Reformed Church, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt in Falsgrave, and the van travels to it. Before anything else we ask what was put in, about how much, and whether your motor has run, because those replies decide this work.
Next, draining the tank right there takes out the polluted diesel along with the AdBlue together. The fuel system is purged thoroughly, which matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, because what it leaves behind does not rinse out on its own. Clean diesel goes in once the fuel filter is flushed — or swapped, when it needs to be — and after that your vehicle is tested. Engine not run? Then expect about half an hour once we are there for most jobs. Low-noise enough to use outside a house at night, and fine on a busy forecourt, the pumps are explosion-proof.
Priming the fuel system with fresh diesel comes last. You set off as soon as we have started it, and it makes no difference whether the car is on a drive in Falsgrave or in a bay outside Scarborough. It's checked on fresh diesel to make sure it runs smoothly before we leave. Since the job is done in full where the car is, a garage never comes into it. You get a VAT invoice and an engineer report afterwards, which is what insurers ask for.

Falsgrave: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix
Since each callouts vary, a flat price wouldn't be honest. What moves the price is, firstly, whether the motor has been running and for how long; then how much AdBlue went in; and finally where the car is and whether a van can reach it safely, which is easier on an open driveway than in a tight gap behind Gladstone And Falsgrave Recreation Centre.
That's why every call from Falsgrave starts with the same three questions, asked before giving a figure, not after: what was put in, how much, and whether it has run. Given them, the range shrinks to one fixed number.
Before a van sets off, you hear the price by phone. Then payment is on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront. Misfuelling cover comes with plenty of insurance policies, so it pays to look at yours before the van gets there.
