Friezeland: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Leave It Off

Engine off, ignition off: that's how you begin if AdBlue has got into the diesel tank. AdBlue is urea mixed in water. It doesn't burn, it doesn't mix with diesel, and the harm it does begins when the system draws it in. If the motor hasn't run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is generally drained and thoroughly flushed where the car stands in Friezeland. Before you do anything else, call 0333 366 0103.

Friezeland, AdBlue in your diesel tank: what to do right away

Things to do:

  • Pocket your keys, and that prevents someone switching the electrics on.
  • If you are at all near moving traffic, put the hazards on.
  • So you can tell us which fluid it was and about how much, save the till receipt or the empty bottle.
  • Ring us from where you are. A postcode starting NG16 5, or the name of the closest street, gets our van to you without a search.

Never:

  • Not even briefly, and not to shift the car: your motor remains off.
  • The ignition stays off: on many diesels, turning it on is enough to start your pump.
  • No more fuel on top. The AdBlue won't blend, so it is wasted.
  • Keep it where it is rather than driving it anywhere, even a short stretch up Alfreton Road.
  • Beside the road, do not try draining it yourself.

Rolling your vehicle away from the pumps is a job for staff to help with, wherever Friezeland forecourt you're on, the the nearest petrol station or any other. On that drive, the car stays exactly as it is.

What AdBlue does in a diesel tank

Not your motor but the exhaust is where AdBlue belongs. Kept in a dedicated tank, it's squirted into the exhaust stream to clean the gases. Neither side suits the other: urea doesn't belong in a pump, and an injection pump can't deal with urea.

Tipped in with your diesel, it stays separate rather than blending — entirely different from fuel. It drops, since it's heavier than diesel, and settles down where the intake takes its supply from. Easiest of all: one that got AdBlue in Alma overnight and has not been started since. The AdBlue sits at the base of the tank, undrawn — though it will be the first thing through if the motor runs, before any diesel at all.

Once it is pulled in, the harm takes two forms. As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it is corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, so it keeps working on the parts it hits for as long as it stays there. Overnight, a car parked in Friezeland with AdBlue through its pipework gets worse; if it is only in the tank, it doesn't. Diesel lubricates the injection pump and each injector as it flows; water gives none of that, which is a separate form of damage.

Why AdBlue in a diesel is regularly more significant than petrol

Fill a diesel with petrol in error over at the Gulf, and the problem is thinned fuel. No harm comes while it sits unused, mixed into your diesel — only when the motor runs on it.

AdBlue in a diesel is another problem: not thin fuel, yet no fuel at all. Not burning, it can't simply be run through. It doesn't stay mixed, and so it can't be diluted. And crystals and corrosion don't wash out with the next tank of fuel. That's why the flush matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting the engine "to see" costs more here than nearly anywhere else, whether the car is in Woodnook or the middle of Friezeland.

As with petrol, there's good news. If the motor hasn't run, the AdBlue is still inside the tank, and the tank is the simplest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever around Nottinghamshire your car is standing.

How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank around Friezeland

Many motors put the AdBlue filler alongside the diesel cap, occasionally under a single flap, and in dim light the two can appear the same. Nobody intends it. A container bought while driving home and poured in outside the house, rather than at the filling station, is the typical route.

The ways it happens are few and familiar. The refill gets rushed outside Bagthorpe Primary School, after the dash flashed with a warning while the kids were taken in. A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off Sandhill Road. Else, in dim light by The Dog and Quayle, your car is refilled by a driver using that flap for the first time.

Rented vehicles, brand-new motors, fleet vehicles, or the second vehicle in a home with both fuels: the least familiar vehicles get it the most. Keep it switched off: that's the first step to an identical mistake, anywhere around Friezeland or the remainder of Nottinghamshire you are.

Friezeland: started your engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank?

Then your tank is no longer where the AdBlue is. It has been sucked through the filter and the fuel lines, and if your motor ran for any time, it has reached the high-pressure fuel pump and the fuel injectors.

Expect rough running, exhaust smoke, lost power, warnings on the dash, or a stall — returning from Bagthorpe Plantation, perhaps, or part way across Friezeland. No restarting to check: pull over once it is safe, then turn everything off. Each start pulls more of that through.

Friezeland lies under 3 miles from the M1; if you were on it, leave at the first junction and stop somewhere safe rather than driving on.

Hopping across Friezeland to the car park by Underwood Community Centre is one thing; heading for Nottingham, under 10 miles away, is another, because each mile pushes the AdBlue deeper in. So mileage counts. Approximately how far had it come? Tell us.

Our engineers do all of the rinsing where your car has stopped, and once the motor has been run there is more of it. Noticed early, it very rarely leaves long-term damage.

Draining AdBlue in a diesel around Friezeland: what it takes

Anywhere it has come to rest around Friezeland — a forecourt, a lay-by, a driveway, a street by St Michael and All Angels — our van travels to the vehicle. Three replies decide the job, and so first our engineers ask what was put in, roughly what quantity, plus whether the motor has turned over.

Next, emptying your tank on the spot removes the contaminated diesel and the AdBlue together. A full flush matters far more after AdBlue than with petrol, because residue will not clear away on its own. A test of the car follows at the end, once clean diesel is added and your filter is flushed or, if needed, swapped. Not run? Then count on roughly half an hour once we are there for most jobs. Explosion-proof pumps mean a busy forecourt sensible to work on, and they're quiet enough to spare the street at night.

The final step is to prime the system on clean diesel. Whether it's a parking bay at Newstead or a driveway around Friezeland, that is where our technicians start it and you drive off. It's tested on fresh diesel to make sure it runs properly before we go. Since the job is done in full where your car is, a garage never comes into it. You get a VAT invoice and an engineer report afterwards, which is what insurers ask for.

AdBlue drains across Friezeland and Nottinghamshire

No moving is needed. In Friezeland, a residential suburb, a mobile service fits: the vehicle is emptied where it stands, whether in a drive, a residential street, a parking area or a forecourt.

What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right in Friezeland

There is no honest single quote, since the jobs aren't the same. Three things shift the price: whether your engine has run and for how long, how much AdBlue went in, and where your car is. That last one comes down to whether our van can reach it safely, and an open drive is easier than a tight gap behind Brinsley Village Sign.

Ahead of a quote, never afterwards, every enquiry from Friezeland begins with the same three checks: the liquid, the amount, plus if it ran. Those replies turn a range into a straight quote.

Our price is given during the call, before a van leaves; payment happens on the day, by card or by phone, and nothing upfront. Plenty of insurance policies include misfuelling cover, so it's worth checking yours while we are on the way.

Friezeland: still beside the vehicle?

Then, do nothing — that is the most helpful move there is. Ignition off, motor off, keys out. Phone 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, roughly how much, and if the engine ran are all our engineers ask. Petrol in Diesel takes over the rest across Nottinghamshire, Friezeland included.
