AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Holborough? Don't Start It

Engine off, ignition off: that is where you begin if AdBlue has got into the diesel tank. AdBlue is urea mixed in water. The trouble begins once it's sucked through your lines — it won't ignite, and it won't blend with diesel. Caught before the motor has been run, AdBlue in a diesel tank is usually a drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is in Holborough. First, call us on 0333 366 0103.

Holborough, AdBlue in your diesel tank: what to do at once

Do:

  • Remove the keys, and that prevents someone turning the electrics on.
  • If you are anywhere close to moving traffic, put the hazards on.
  • Keep your receipt or the empty bottle, so you can tell us what went in and roughly how much.
  • Call us from where you are. A postcode starting ME6 5, or the name of the nearest street, gets our van to you without a search.

Never do these:

  • Don't start your motor, even for a moment to move your car.
  • The ignition remains off: on many diesels, switching it on is enough to run your fuel pump.
  • No more fuel added. The AdBlue will not mix, so it is pointless.
  • Don't drive the vehicle anywhere, not even a short distance up Ladds Lane.
  • Do not try to drain the vehicle yourself by the kerbside.

Moving the car off the island is a job for staff to help with, whichever Holborough forecourt you're on, the BP included. Stopped on your own driveway? Then it stays exactly as it is.

AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

Not your engine but your exhaust is where AdBlue belongs. From a dedicated tank it goes straight to your exhaust, cleaning what your motor emits. Not one side fits the other: urea doesn't belong in an injection pump, and an injection pump can't deal with urea.

It doesn't combine. Once it's poured into the tank, AdBlue acts nothing like diesel. It drops, because it's heavier than diesel, and pools low where the pickup draws its fuel from. A car topped up on a driveway in Halling yesterday evening and not started since is the straightforward one. Nothing has pulled the AdBlue up yet — but once your motor turns, that is what goes first, directly from the bottom of the tank.

From there it does two kinds of damage. Crystals and corrosion. As the water dries, it leaves urea that hardens in filters and tiny channels; meanwhile, because it eats at certain metals, each part it touches keeps suffering for as long as it stays inside. Lines carrying AdBlue mean harm overnight for a car sitting around Holborough. Just in your tank, it stays stable. Water lubricates nothing. The high-pressure pump and each injector need diesel flowing past them, so the water content damages them by itself.

Draining AdBlue from a diesel tank in Holborough

Why AdBlue in a diesel is frequently more significant than petrol

Petrol pumped into a diesel on Shell's forecourt makes the fuel thin — that is the main fault. It mixes with the diesel, and whilst it's in your tank it causes no harm; the damage comes from running your motor on it.

AdBlue in a diesel is a different problem: not thin fuel, but no fuel at all. Because it does not burn, running it through isn't an option. It does not stay mixed, so it can't be diluted. And crystals and corrosion don't wash out with the next tank of fuel. That is why the flush counts more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting your engine "to see" costs more here than almost anywhere else, whether the vehicle is in Wouldham or the middle of Holborough.

With AdBlue, the good news is no separate from petrol. Clearing a tank is the easiest part on any fuel system, and without start-up, the AdBlue stays in there — wherever in Kent the car has stopped.

How does AdBlue end up in a diesel tank around Holborough?

In dim light, two caps together — the AdBlue one and the diesel one, now and then under one flap — may appear the same. No one means it; many layouts allow it. A container picked up when heading home and poured in outside the house, rather than at the filling station, is the usual route.

It tends to occur in a few familiar ways. Midway through the drop-off, the dashboard flags it up, and outside Valley Invicta Primary School at Holborough Lakes the refill is hurried. A driver tips the container in at home, just off A228, as the day ends. Or your car is topped up in the car park outside The Monks Head, in poor light, by someone who has never opened that flap before.

Hired cars, brand-new cars, company vehicles, or the second car in a home with both fuels: the least familiar vehicles get it most. Wherever you're around Holborough or the rest of Kent, it's the same mistake and the same first answer: leave the car off.

Started the motor with AdBlue in your diesel tank around Holborough?

The AdBlue has left that tank, then. Given any running time, it goes on to the high-pressure pump and every injector, having passed via your filter and pipework.

Watch for lumpy running, smoke, lost power, lights on your dash, or a cut-out — coming back from The Meadow, say, or midway across Holborough. Stop as soon as it is safe, switch off, and don't restart the car to check. More of it is pulled through with each start.

On the M20, under 3 miles from Holborough, the first junction is where to leave, and anywhere safe is where to park — not driving on.

Every mile pushes the AdBlue further into your system. That's why crossing Holborough to park near All Saints and a drive of under 25 miles towards Southend-on-Sea are very different jobs. Let us know roughly how far it had come.

Once the engine has been run, the flush covers more, and all of it is done where the vehicle has stopped. Permanent damage is very unusual when it's spotted early.

What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve in Holborough?

Anywhere it has come to rest in Holborough — a filling station, a layby, a drive, a road by Snodland Town Football Club — our van travels to your car. What got in, about the quantity, plus if the engine has been run: our engineers check before all else, since those decide the job.

Then that tank is drained where your car stands, so the tainted fuel and the AdBlue come out together. Residue from AdBlue will not flush away unaided, so the fuel system gets a careful flush, which matters far more with urea than with petrol. After that, your filter: flushed, or replaced if it has to be. Then clean diesel, and then a test of the vehicle. Not run? Then count on about half an hour once we are there for most jobs. Quiet enough for use outside a house at night, and safe on a busy forecourt, the pumps are explosion-proof.

The last step is to prime the fuel system on clean diesel. You drive off as soon as our technicians have started the car, and it makes no difference whether the car is on a driveway in Holborough or in a space at Snodland. Our technicians check it runs properly on new diesel before we go. The whole job is done where your car is, so it never has to go to a workshop. Insurers want a VAT invoice and an engineer report, and both come at the end.

AdBlue drains across Kent, Holborough included

AdBlue call-outs around Holborough are passed to teams that cover the places around it — Snodland, Peters Village plus Burham Court — and much of Kent further out, across ME postcodes. Guessing won't help by a county line or somewhere tricky to describe; phone and ask.

A mobile service fits Holborough, a residential suburb: you have no need to take your vehicle to us, since our engineers drain it on the spot, on a driveway, a residential street, a parking area or a filling station.

What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out in Holborough?

There's no fair single price, because the jobs are not the same. Three things move the price: whether your engine has been running and for how long, how much AdBlue got in, and where the car is. That last one comes down to whether our van can reach it safely, and an open drive is easier than a tight spot behind Peters Village Community Centre.

That is why each call from Holborough starts with the same three queries, asked before giving a figure, not after: what was put in, how much, and if it has run. Those replies narrow a range down to a single figure.

You hear that quote by phone, before anyone heads out, and you pay on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront. Look at your policy whilst we are on the way: plenty carry misfuelling cover.
