What Now? AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Little Ann

Has the motor run since the AdBlue was put in? That single point decides almost everything about what comes next. If it hasn't, keep it that way, whether the vehicle is in Little Ann itself or out in Red Rice. Usually that means draining and thoroughly cleaning it right there in Little Ann — so keep the key and motor off and call 0333 366 0103. When your engine has been run, stop safely straight away, then turn it off. The job is bigger, but the first stage is the same.

Little Ann forecourt: AdBlue in a diesel at the pump

Imagine it: standing by the pump, gripping the nozzle, you realise the filler you opened wasn't the right one. It might be the Shell, or perhaps the BP, or another station around Little Ann.

The upshot: of every spot to notice, this is the best. Still inside that tank, and nothing drawn onwards: that is where the AdBlue is.

What to do: do not get back in and start it to clear the pump. A few jobs: a push into a bay with the attendants assisting, the receipt saved, and a ring to us from the forecourt. The equipment is explosion-proof and fine on a live forecourt, and so a car that can't be pushed clear gets emptied right at the petrol pump.

AdBlue in your diesel tank on a Little Ann drive?

Days had gone by with the dash light on. Picked up a bottle, tipped it in outside the house, binned the empty — and at that point checked the cap a second time, after the fact. Houses just off Abbotts Hill get hit as much as everywhere else.

Meaning? Provided your vehicle hasn't been driven since, it's second to the forecourt case. Being unable to mix, AdBlue settles to the base inside that tank and stays. A night parked changes nothing.

Your move: keys indoors, and so no one takes the vehicle anywhere at breakfast. After that, ring. Abbotts Ann or Little Ann: wherever your driveway sits, that is where it is cleared. The pumps are quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

Little Ann: set off with AdBlue in a diesel?

A short way beyond filling up, your engine started misbehaving: roughness, smoke, less power, warnings on your dash. Maybe heading to Winchester, under 15 miles away, or simply down Saint Mary's Meadow.

In short: the AdBlue has been pulled into your fuel system. Distance decides how deep it gets: filter and lines to begin with, then the high-pressure pump and each injector. More miles, more starts: deeper it goes.

Stop somewhere safe — that's the next job — then switch it off. Services further on are too far: from the M3, under 15 miles out of Little Ann, take the next junction. Starting it again to check achieves nothing — AdBlue never clears on its own. About what distance did it gone? Tell us as you call.

AdBlue in the wrong tank: hire, lease and company cars

You have had this vehicle hardly a week. Unbeknown to you, the two inlets sit next to each other here — unlike your own vehicle, which has no AdBlue or keeps it elsewhere. Throughout Hampshire, no one is immune.

The upshot: just as above, divided by whether it ran, only with one added step. The owner frequently has to sign off any work, under many hire and company contracts.

Next: phone the hire company or the fleet manager first, then us — sorting it before we arrive is quicker. Stranded by Saint Mary's or at Andover till the firm answers, the vehicle remains switched off the whole time.

AdBlue in the diesel tank? Not sure, around Little Ann

Truthfully, the best answer may be that you think it did. What cap came off, you can't say; meanwhile the bottle feels lighter than expected, and a whiff of ammonia lingers by the filler. It might have been on a friend's driveway in Upper Clatford, or in a rush outside Abbotts Ann Church of England Primary School at the school run.

The point: your motor is not harmed by some AdBlue splashed around the filler. Inside the diesel tank, however, AdBlue harms it. You cannot tell which by turning the ignition, and doing so will draw in any AdBlue that is in your tank.

Next: assume it got in, and keep your engine off. Ring with what you saw: we would sooner confirm a clean tank than empty one once your engine has run.

The common ground in every Little Ann AdBlue drain

Every case gets the same opening to the work. Forecourt, driveway, The Poplar Farm Inn's car park or a street by Bury Hill Fort — our van comes to your car, and three answers follow: which liquid, what quantity, and whether it ran. Over the phone, before dispatch, you are told our price, and those replies shape the work too.

Draining the tank comes first, then a careful flush — more important after urea than after petrol, since crystals and corrosion will not go by themselves, no matter how long it sits. The fuel filter is cleaned, or replaced where it needs to be; fresh diesel goes in; and the car is tested. Never started? In that case roughly half an hour once we are there covers most jobs.

Finally, our engineers fire it up. Our test that it runs smoothly on new diesel comes before our technicians head off. We do the whole job where your car is, and long-term damage is very uncommon when it has been spotted early. For your insurer: the engineer's report and the VAT invoice. For you: payment that day, no money in advance. It is worth remembering: lots of insurers offer misfuelling cover, so a quick look at your policy while we travel pays.
