Lower House: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Find Your Situation
All of it turns on one detail: whether your motor has been run since the AdBlue was added — more than anything else. Out in The Straits or here around Lower House, an unstarted motor should stay unrun. Leave your motor and the ignition off then phone 0333 366 0103; it's generally a drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is in Lower House. Already run? Pull over when you safely can, then switch everything off. Step one stays the same, even though the job grows.
Further down: the cases we see, wherever across Lancashire. Choose yours.
AdBlue in a diesel on a Lower House forecourt
The cap you opened was the wrong one — and you just notice it as you are standing at the pump, bottle or the nozzle in hand. Maybe you are at the Tesco, maybe at the Morrisons, possibly somewhere else in Lower House.
Meaning? Finding out on the forecourt is as good as it can be. Just your tank holds AdBlue; not one component past it has drawn it in.
Your move: keep out of the car, even if the queue wants clearing. A few things: a shove into a space with the attendants helping, the bottle saved, and a ring to us from where you stand. If it cannot be shifted, it can be cleared at the pump: the equipment is explosion-proof and fine on a working forecourt.
AdBlue in your diesel tank on a Lower House drive?
The warning light had been on for days. A bottle bought at the shop, emptied in on the drive — and it was only by the bin that the cap got your eye. Homes just off Cedarwood Drive are caught out as often as anywhere else.
The upshot: no miles since leaves it nearly as good to spotting it at the petrol pump. On the bottom of that tank sits exactly where AdBlue stays, since it won't blend with diesel — and a night passing changes no difference.
What to do: leave your keys inside the house so no one moves the vehicle in the morning. Then ring. Your driveway is where it is drained, whether around Lower House or Wade Hall. The pumping kit runs quiet enough not to disturb the neighbours at night.
AdBlue in a diesel and already driving around Lower House?
Topped up, drove away, and before long your motor was turning unevenly, smoking, down on power, or flashing up your dash. Welsby Road, perhaps, or the route towards Preston — a run of under 10 miles.
In short: the AdBlue has been pulled into your fuel system. The injection pump and each injector get it as well on a longer run, after the filter and pipework have had it. It goes further with every mile driven and every restart.
Your move: stop anywhere sensible, then switch your engine off. Lower House lies under 3 miles from the M6; there, come off at the next junction rather than pressing on for the services. Do not restart the vehicle to see if it has cleared; it will not have. Let us hear the distance driven when you call.
AdBlue in the wrong tank of a hire, lease or company car
You have only had this vehicle for days. Unbeknown to you, the two inlets are side by side here — not like your own car, which has none or stores it elsewhere. Anyone, wherever in Lancashire, might do it.
In short: one extra step on top of the situations above, and those turn on whether it's run. Any work on your car frequently requires the owner's go-ahead under hire or company agreements.
Do this: rental firm or fleet manager to begin with, us next, since settling it beforehand cuts time. If you are stranded in the car park outside Leyland, or by Crossways Day Centre, while you wait for an answer, leave the vehicle off.
Not sure it was AdBlue in the diesel tank, Lower House?
Honestly, the only answer may be that you think it did. Too light, that bottle; a trace of ammonia near the filler; no clear recollection of the cap. Look familiar? The gates of St Anne's Catholic Primary School in a rush, perhaps, or a friend's drive out in Leyland.
Put simply: spillage near the filler leaves your motor unharmed. A diesel tank with AdBlue inside is a different story. If there is AdBlue in the tank, starting your car would draw it in, and it wouldn't tell you which either.
Take it that it was put in, and don't start your key. Ring us and describe what you saw; we'd rather check a tank that turns out free of AdBlue than drain one that has already been run.
The common ground in every Lower House AdBlue drain
Whichever situation you are in, this job starts the same way. Anywhere the vehicle stands — Seven Stars's car park, a street beside Lowerhouse Community Centre, a drive, a filling station — our van gets there and we ask about the fluid, the quantity, plus if your engine has been run. On the phone, before dispatch, you are told the price, and those replies shape the job too.
Then that tank is emptied and the system cleaned thoroughly, which counts more with AdBlue than with petrol: AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it does not rinse out on its own. Next is the filter — flushed, or replaced where necessary — followed by fresh diesel, and a test of your vehicle. Not started? Then about half an hour once we are there is most jobs.
Starting the car comes last. Our check that it runs properly on fresh diesel comes before our engineers head off. Permanent damage is very uncommon when it's caught soon, and the entire job is done where the car is. You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer. Dig out your insurance before we're en route: cover for misfuelling comes included in plenty of policies.
