AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Machpelah? Keep It Switched Off
AdBlue in your diesel tank? Then keep your motor off — and the ignition as well. Urea mixed in water is what AdBlue is. It does not burn, it does not mix with diesel, and the harm it does starts when the system draws it in. In Machpelah, AdBlue in a diesel tank found before the engine runs usually means a drain and a thorough flush, right where your car is. Phone 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.
Machpelah, AdBlue in the diesel tank: what to do straight away
Do these:
- Keys out — that way nobody can switch anything on.
- Put the hazard lights on if you are anywhere close to moving traffic.
- Which product, and about what amount? Save the bottle or the receipt, and our engineers can know.
- Ring just where you are. Say a HX7 8 postcode or the nearest street name, and no one has to hunt for you.
Don't do these:
- Don't start the motor, even for a moment to shift the car.
- The ignition remains off: on lots of diesels, turning it on is enough to start the pump.
- Do not top up with diesel to dilute it. AdBlue doesn't mix in diesel; it separates out.
- Keep the vehicle where it is instead of driving it anywhere, even a short way along Burnley Road.
- Emptying that tank on your own beside the road isn't worth trying.
Rolling the car away from the pumps is a job for staff to help with, whichever Machpelah forecourt you're on, the Matthew Sheard & Sons included. On your own drive, don't move it at all.
AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does
Meant for your exhaust, AdBlue has no business in the motor. Kept in a separate tank, it's injected into the exhaust stream to clean the gases. Nothing in it is supposed to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is made to handle it.
Fuel blends; AdBlue, once tipped in, will not. The behaviour is not at all like fuel's. Denser than diesel, it sinks and pools underneath it — the same place the pickup draws from. A vehicle filled on a driveway in Wood End yesterday evening and left unstarted is the simple case. No pump has pulled the AdBlue up so far — but when your motor turns, that's what goes first, straight from the bottom of your tank.
From there it causes two kinds of harm. Crystals and corrosion. As the water evaporates, it strands urea that hardens in filter elements and narrow channels; and, because it eats at certain metals, each part it touches keeps suffering for as long as it stays inside. Where the AdBlue is in the lines, waiting till morning in Machpelah leaves it worse. Inside your tank only, waiting does nothing. And there is the water: it offers no protection to the parts that rely on it most — the high-pressure pump and every injector.
Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is regularly worse
Put petrol in a diesel at the Asda Express Fuel and you have a fault of thin fuel. Harm only comes from driving on it. Blended into your diesel and sitting in your tank, it causes none.
With AdBlue in a diesel, the fluid itself is simply the wrong one. It can't just be run through, since it does not burn. Whether your car is in Nutclough or the heart of Machpelah, firing it up "to see" does more harm with AdBlue than nearly any other mistake, and the flush counts more. Why: it won't remain mixed, and so diluting it is impossible; and deposits and corrosion outlast the next tankful.
As with petrol, there's good news. If the engine hasn't run, the AdBlue is still in the tank, and your tank is the easiest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever around West Yorkshire the car is sitting.
AdBlue in a diesel tank in Machpelah: how it ends up there
Many cars place the AdBlue filler alongside the diesel cap, now and then behind a single flap, and after dark the two may appear the same. No one intends it. It mostly takes place outside the house, from a bottle grabbed on the journey home, rather than at the forecourt.
Usually, it takes place in one of a couple of familiar ways. A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up happens in a hurry outside Stubbings Infant School. A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off New Road. Another version: dim light, the car park by Vocation, and someone using that flap for the first time.
It takes place most in the vehicles motorists know least: a hire car, a new vehicle, a company car, or the second motor of a household with one diesel and one petrol. Same slip, an identical first step — leave it switched off — wherever you happen to be in Machpelah or the remainder of West Yorkshire.
Already started the motor with AdBlue in the diesel tank around Machpelah?
Then the AdBlue has left that tank. The filter and lines have had it pulled along, and any running takes it on to the injection pump and every injector.
You may notice the engine running unevenly, smoking, losing power, showing warning lights or cutting out, perhaps on the way back from Common Bank Wood or halfway across Machpelah. Once safe, pull over and turn everything off — with no turning it on again to see. With each start, more of that is pulled through.
Machpelah lies under 10 miles from the M62; if you were on it, exit by the next junction and pull up somewhere safe instead of driving on.
How far it went counts. A few hundred yards across Machpelah to the car park by Hebden Bridge Picture House is a very different job from a run towards Bradford, under 15 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into your system with every mile. Roughly how far it had come is worth telling us.
Once the engine has been started, the flush takes in more, and all of it is done where the car has come to a stop. Lasting damage is very unusual when it is spotted early.
Emptying AdBlue in a diesel in Machpelah: what it takes
A road beside Hope Baptist Chapel, a drive, a lay-by or a filling station: wherever your vehicle has come to rest around Machpelah, our engineers travel to it. Before anything else we ask what was put in, about how much, and whether the motor has run, since those replies decide this work.
The polluted diesel and the urea leave as one when your tank is emptied, right there. The system is purged thoroughly, which counts more with AdBlue than with petrol, since what it leaves behind does not rinse out on its own. Next, the filter: cleaned, or changed when it must be. After that clean diesel, then a test of your vehicle. Roughly half an hour once we arrive is typical for most jobs where the motor hasn't run. The pumping gear is explosion-proof, so a live filling station is no issue, and it's quiet enough for a residential street late at night.
Priming the fuel system with new diesel comes last. Firing it up comes next, and then you head off from where your car is parked, by Hebden Bridge or on a driveway around Machpelah. The test before our engineers leave is that it runs smoothly on clean diesel. The entire job is done where the vehicle is, so it never needs to be taken to a garage. The insurer is likely to want an engineer's report and your VAT invoice — both yours once this job is done.

AdBlue in a diesel tank around Machpelah: the cost of fixing it
Because each callouts differ, a single price wouldn't be honest. The price changes first with how long, if at all, your engine has been running, and next with the amount of AdBlue that got in. After that it depends on where the vehicle is and whether our van can get to it safely, which is easier on an open drive than in a tight gap behind Hebden Bridge Library.
Which fluid got in, what quantity, and if it ran: every Machpelah enquiry opens with precisely those, ahead of any quote, never after. The replies turn a range into a straight quote.
The quote is quoted during the call, before anyone leaves; settling up comes on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront. Check your insurance while we are on the way: many carry misfuelling cover.
