Matchborough: How Does AdBlue End Up in a Diesel Tank, and How Do You Avoid It?
Leave your motor and ignition off then phone 0333 366 0103 now — the rest can wait if AdBlue is already in your diesel tank. Usually, when the motor hasn't turned, it is drained and fully purged where your vehicle sits in Matchborough. Nothing happened yet? Further down, the rest of the page explains the why it takes place and the ways to prevent it altogether.
AdBlue in a diesel vehicle: two tanks, two fillers
Many newer diesels around Ipsley, as well as Matchborough, carry on two fluids; the engine takes just your diesel. AdBlue goes to the exhaust, where it is sprayed into the gas to fresh it, and it lives in a tank of its own.
Different tanks, different fillers. Plenty of vehicles have a single flap for the two, whereas others move the AdBlue filler to your boot or under the bonnet. The diesel side is fuelled at the pump all the time. Seldom filled, AdBlue usually comes out of a bottle, poured by a driver who has to stop and think what filler it needs. It's in the gap that the slip lives.
Matchborough: how AdBlue in your diesel tank occurs
Seldom is it carelessness: normally three things line up.
To start with, the warning. Low AdBlue triggers a message from the car, and letting it run dry leads to limp mode — so a hurried top-up, perhaps before work off Claybrook Drive, perhaps outside The Boot on the way home that evening.
Then the vehicle is new. A hire car, a new vehicle or a company car puts the fillers where your last one did not, and the hand gets to for the cap it would have used on the old one.
Nothing stops the tip once it has started, because a bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as readily as an AdBlue one. The bottle fits. The same few seconds settle it, in the middle of Matchborough or out in Mappleborough Green.
The AdBlue filler and the diesel filler: telling them apart
Check these first, on a forecourt in Matchborough or a driveway out in Winyates. A few seconds, no more.
- The cap. The AdBlue cap is commonly blue, or marked "AdBlue". Your diesel cap normally isn't. Read it rather than going by position.
- On plenty of motors, the size gives it away: AdBlue gets the smaller filler neck.
- A label inside your fuel flap often says which fuel goes where, on many motors. Look for it.
- The handbook. If your filler is not by your diesel cap, it is in the boot or under the bonnet, and the handbook says which.
- The person who drove the car last. On a hire or company car collected from somewhere like the car park outside Redditch, ask before you leave, not when the light comes on.
How to top up without AdBlue in the diesel tank
For the day the warning appears — anywhere you are in Worcestershire — a simple routine to follow.
- Park then switch off. Not on a slope, not with the engine running, and not in a rush on the side of Atherstone Close.
- Silly as it sounds, speaking "AdBlue" out loud while you unscrew the cap works — after you have located your filler and read it.
- The two behind a single flap? So make sure the cap on your diesel side stays closed before lifting the bottle.
- Slowly does it, through the bottle's own spout, till it's full or the bottle is empty.
- Shut the cap, and check again — confirm your diesel filler remained closed the whole time. After that, start the car.
If at stage two or three you find you have already poured into your diesel side, stop there. Leave out stage five altogether.
Already put AdBlue in the diesel tank around Matchborough?
Then the order of things is short. Do not start your engine. On many diesels the ignition alone runs the fuel pump, and so do not switch the vehicle on. Don't top up with diesel to thin it: AdBlue doesn't mix with diesel, it sinks to the bottom of the tank, where the fuel is sucked from.
Ask the staff to help push the car away from the pump if you are on a forecourt — the JET, the Morrisons Fuel or somewhere else. Leave it where it is if you're on your own driveway in Matchborough.
Stop as soon as it is safe and switch off, if the engine has already run. On the M42, under 5 miles from Matchborough, that means the next exit. Roughly how far did it go? Crossing Matchborough is less a job than a run of under 15 miles to Birmingham, so tell us.
Matchborough: what takes place when our engineers arrive
By Matchborough First School Academy, close to Mapplebrough Green Village Hall or on your own driveway: wherever the vehicle has stopped, we come to it. Our technicians ask what got in, roughly how much, and if it has run, because those replies determine this work and the price. Nobody sets off before you've had our quote by phone.
Then that tank is cleared and the system rinsed thoroughly. More than with petrol, it matters here: crystals form, certain metals are attacked, and nothing washes out unaided, however long it is left. The filter cleaned or, where it must be, swapped; fresh diesel in; then a test of your vehicle. We do not leave until it has been started and is running properly.
Most jobs are done in roughly half an hour once we arrive, provided the motor hasn't run — and the pumps our technicians use are safe on a live forecourt yet quiet after dark beside a house. Payment is on the day, not upfront, and you receive the documents an insurer asks for: an engineer's report and a VAT invoice. Wrong-fuel cover is part of many insurance policies — so make use of the wait to look at yours.

Matchborough and Worcestershire: AdBlue drains across the area
Matchborough is a residential suburb, and our vans that cover it also work the places near it, Winyates Green and Washford among them, across the B postcode area. Quickest of all: give a B98 0 postcode to our van.
The vehicle stays put. Wherever it sits — beside Christ Church, in a layby heading to Brookfield Plantation, at home — that is where it is drained. Ring and ask instead of assuming if you're close to a border, or somewhere hard to explain, like the back of Arrowvale Sports and Leisure Centre.
For Matchborough drivers, the short version
Always, the cap; then, the pour. If AdBlue has gone in your diesel tank regardless, leave the car off and call 0333 366 0103. Petrol in Diesel empties it where it waits, anywhere in Worcestershire.
