AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Middlewood? Keep It Switched Off

If AdBlue has got into your diesel tank, keep the motor off and keep the ignition off. Urea mixed in water is all AdBlue is. The harm starts once it is pulled through the pump — it will not ignite, and it won't blend with diesel. If your engine has not run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is generally drained and thoroughly cleaned where the car stands around Middlewood. Before you do anything else, phone 0333 366 0103.

AdBlue in your diesel tank in Middlewood: the first few minutes

Do these:

  • Keys out — then nobody can switch anything on.
  • Put the hazards on if you're anywhere close to moving traffic.
  • Keep your receipt or the empty bottle, so you can tell us what was put in and about how much.
  • Ring us from where you are. A postcode starting SK12 1, or the name of the nearest street, brings our van to you without a search.

Things not to do:

  • Don't start the motor, even for a moment to move the vehicle.
  • Turning your key to ignition alone starts the pump going on many diesels. Skip it.
  • AdBlue doesn't dilute in diesel — it separates out — so adding more fuel will not thin it.
  • Leave the vehicle where it is instead of driving it anywhere, even a short way down Middlewood Road.
  • By the road, don't attempt draining it on your own.

At a forecourt around Middlewood, whether it is the Esso or another one, ask the staff to help you roll the vehicle away from the petrol pump. At home, the vehicle remains just where it is.

What does AdBlue do in a diesel tank?

AdBlue is made for your exhaust, not your motor. It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into the exhaust gas to clean it. No part inside an injection pump is designed for this liquid — and no part of it was intended to go through one.

Fuel blends; AdBlue, after poured in, will not. Its behaviour is not at all like fuel's. Heavier than diesel, it drops and collects underneath it — the very place the pickup sucks from. Once the pump runs, the AdBlue is first to go through. Before then it sits beneath the diesel, and that is how a vehicle filled in Windlehurst last night and not switched on stays the simple case, as long as no one turns your key.

Once it is drawn in, the harm takes two forms. What is left once the water goes is urea, which turns into crystals: they lodge in narrow channels and clog filters. Worse, it eats at certain metals in the fuel system, and carries on until it is cleared out. Pipes carrying AdBlue mean damage by morning for a car sitting around Middlewood. Only inside that tank, it stays the same. And there's the water: it brings no lubrication to the components that rely on it most — the high-pressure pump and each injector.

Draining AdBlue from a diesel tank in Middlewood

Why AdBlue in a diesel is often more major than petrol

Put petrol in a diesel at the BP and you have a fault of thin fuel. Harm just comes from running on it. Blended into the diesel and sitting inside your tank, it does nothing.

AdBlue in a diesel is a problem of the wrong substance altogether. Not burning, it cannot just be run through. Whether the car sits in Wardsend or the centre of Middlewood, firing it up "to see" does more harm with AdBlue than nearly any other slip, and the flush counts for more. Why: it will not remain mixed, so watering it down is impossible; and crystals and corrosion outlast the following tankful.

With AdBlue, the good news is no distinct from petrol. Anywhere around Cheshire your vehicle has come to rest, an unrun engine leaves the AdBlue yet inside the tank: the easiest part of a fuel system to empty.

AdBlue in a diesel tank around Middlewood: how it ends up there

In dim light, two caps together — the AdBlue cap and the diesel one, now and then behind a single flap — may appear the same. Nobody means it; many layouts allow it. Most of the time it happens with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the driveway, not at the forecourt.

The ways it occurs are few and familiar. Halfway through the morning drop-off, the dashboard flags it up, and outside Brookside Primary School the top-up is rushed. After work, a bottle goes in on a drive near Hilton Road. Another pattern: dim light, a pub car park outside The Boars Head, and a driver using that flap the first time.

The least familiar cars see it the most — rentals, new cars, fleet cars, and the other motor of a family with one of each fuel types. Wherever around Cheshire, Middlewood as well, the slip doesn't change, and nor does the first step: keep it off.

AdBlue in the diesel tank around Middlewood, and the motor started?

Then the AdBlue has left that tank. Via your filter, along the pipework, and — given any running time — into the injection pump and each injector: that is where it has gone.

Maybe coming back from Davenport Golf Club, or part way across Middlewood, the engine may run lumpy, smoke, lose power, flash the dash or cut out. Stop as soon as it is safe, switch off, and do not restart the car to check. With each start, more of that is pulled through.

Middlewood lies under 5 miles from the M60; if you were on it, exit at the first junction and stop safely instead of carrying on.

A quick hop across Middlewood to the car park by Middlewood House is one thing; heading for Manchester, under 15 miles away, is something else, because each mile carries the AdBlue further in. So distance counts. Let us know roughly how far it had come.

There's more to flush once the motor has been run, and we do all of it where the car has ended up. When it's spotted soon, permanent damage is very uncommon.

What clearing AdBlue from a diesel involves in Middlewood

We come to the car, wherever it has stopped around Middlewood: a side street close to Jackson's Brick Works (Conservation Area), a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt. The work rests on three answers, which we get first — which fluid got in, the quantity, and if the engine has run.

The contaminated diesel and the urea come out together after that tank is drained, right there. With AdBlue, more so than with petrol, the flush matters: the whole system is cleaned all the way through because residue will not wash away by itself. Fresh diesel goes in after the filter is cleaned — or replaced, when it needs to be — and then the car is tested. Engine not run? Then count on roughly half an hour on site for most jobs. The equipment is explosion-proof, and so a busy forecourt is no issue, and it's hushed enough for a residential street after dark.

Bleeding the system with clean diesel comes last. Starting it comes next, and then you drive off from where the car is parked, at the nearest station or on a driveway around Middlewood. Our technicians check it runs correctly on new diesel before we leave. No workshop is needed at any point, with the whole job done on the spot. Your insurer will want an engineer's report and the VAT invoice — both yours afterwards.

What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out around Middlewood?

Every job differs, and so not one fixed quote would be honest. Three things change the cost: whether the engine has run and for how long, how much AdBlue was put in, and where your car is. That last one comes down to whether our van can get to it safely, and an open drive is easier than a tight gap behind Higher Poynton Tennis Club.

That's why every call from Middlewood starts with the same three questions, asked before giving a figure, not after: what got in, how much, and whether it's run. Given them, a range shrinks to one fixed number.

You hear that price on the phone, before anyone sets off, and you pay on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront. Check your insurance while we are on the way: plenty carry misfuelling cover.
