Preventing AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Mytchett Place: Why It Happens
AdBlue already in the diesel tank? In that case put this page down a moment, leave your ignition and engine off, and phone 0333 366 0103. Around Mytchett Place, finding it before your motor runs normally means a drain and a full flush on the spot. If you're reading before it has happened, the rest of this page is about why it occurs and how to make sure it does not.
Two fillers, two tanks: AdBlue in a diesel vehicle
Diesel feeds the engine — yet many current diesels driven about Mytchett Place and Farnborough Park hold a second fluid too. Your exhaust, not the motor, is where AdBlue ends up: dosed into the fumes to fresh it, from its own tank.
There is a filler on every tank. Under one flap, side by side: that is the layout on many motors. On others, AdBlue's filler is under the bonnet or in the boot instead. The diesel side is filled at the petrol pump all the time. Much less frequently, the AdBlue side is topped up — mostly from a bottle, by a person thinking about where it goes. The mistake lives in that gap.
How AdBlue in the diesel tank occurs in Mytchett Place
Three things tend to line up, and carelessness is seldom one of them.
To start with, the warning. Low AdBlue triggers a message from your car, and running dry means limp mode — so a rushed top-up, maybe before work off Mytchett Place Road, or outside Potter's Inn on the way home after work.
Unfamiliar vehicles are second, too. Rentals, new motors and company motors put their fillers in new places, and the hand goes for the cap used on the old one.
Nothing halts the tip after it has started, because a bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as readily as an AdBlue one. The bottle fits. Whether it happens in Mytchett or the middle of Mytchett Place, it's the same few seconds.
Which filler is for AdBlue, and which for diesel?
Before you tip anything, whether on a drive in Farnborough Street or a forecourt in Mytchett Place, check these. They take a couple of seconds.
- The cap. The AdBlue cap is regularly blue, or marked "AdBlue". Your diesel cap usually isn't. Read it instead of going by position.
- The size. On many motors the AdBlue filler neck is the smaller of the two.
- Lift the filler flap and check for a label — many motors show what goes in which inlet just there.
- The handbook. If the filler isn't by the diesel cap, it is in the boot or under the bonnet, and the handbook says which.
- Ask the person who drove it last — before you leave, not when the light comes on — when you collect a hire or company car from somewhere like the car park outside Ash Vale.
Topping up AdBlue without it reaching the diesel tank
When the light goes on, wherever across Surrey, follow this routine.
- Not in a rush on the side of Mytchett Lake Road, not on a slope, not with the motor running: park then switch off first.
- Find the AdBlue filler, read the cap, and speak the name "AdBlue" out loud while you unscrew it. It seems silly. It does the trick.
- The diesel cap remains on. When the two sit under a flap, make sure it's shut before lifting the bottle.
- Finish when your tank fills or the bottle is empty; before that, pour gently through the own spout.
- Close the cap and check once more. Make sure your diesel cap was never opened. Only then start the car.
Find at stage two or three that it's already gone into the diesel side? So stop right there. Leave out step five entirely.
AdBlue in the diesel tank already, around Mytchett Place?
Brief list, then. First: the motor stays off. On plenty of diesels your ignition alone runs the fuel pump, so don't switch the car on. Do not top up with diesel to thin it: AdBlue doesn't mix with diesel, it sinks to the bottom of the tank, where the fuel is sucked from.
Ask the attendants to help roll the vehicle clear of the pump if you are at a forecourt — the BP, the JET or anywhere else. On your own drive around Mytchett Place? Then your car stays put.

Our arrival in Mytchett Place, and what takes place next
By Holly Lodge Primary Academy, near Basingstoke Canal Visitor Centre or on your own drive: wherever your car has stopped, we come to it. Which fluid got in, the amount, and if it ran: our technicians ask because the answers set the work and price. That quote is given on the call, ahead of any van leaving.
Your system is then flushed thoroughly, after your tank is cleared. Much more than with petrol, it counts here: crystals form, certain metals corrode, and nothing clears away unaided, no matter how long it is left. Your filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and your car is tested. We do not leave until it has been fired up and is running properly.
Using pumps safe on a busy forecourt and quiet enough for use outside a house at night, most jobs in which your motor has not run take roughly half an hour once our technicians arrive. You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer. While we travel, have a look at your insurance documents; plenty carry cover for misfuelling.
