AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in New Zealand, and What to Do Next

One thing counts most once AdBlue is in a diesel tank, and that is if the engine has run since. Not started yet? Then keep the vehicle that way, whether your vehicle is — New Zealand or Skilling. Usually this is emptying and thoroughly purging it on the spot in New Zealand — and so keep the ignition and engine off and call 0333 366 0103. Where the motor has run, pull in safely first, then turn the vehicle off. It is a bigger job, yet stage one doesn't change.

Wherever in Dorset it took place, one of the situations below fits yours.

At the petrol pump in New Zealand: AdBlue in a diesel

You're at the petrol pump, the nozzle or the bottle still in your hand, and you have just noticed the cap you opened was the wrong one. Anywhere in New Zealand, then — Esso, Morrisons, or anywhere else close by.

What it means: this is the best place to find out. The AdBlue is inside that tank and nowhere else. Nothing has pulled it in.

What to do: do not get back in and fire it up to clear the pump. A few jobs: a push into a space with the attendants assisting, the receipt saved, and a call to us from where you stand. Our equipment is explosion-proof and safe on a live forecourt, so a vehicle that cannot be pushed away is cleared right at the petrol pump.

AdBlue in the diesel tank at home around New Zealand

The warning light had been on for days. Picked up a bottle, tipped it in at home, binned the empty — and at that point checked the cap a second time, after the fact. Houses just off New Zealand Farm Close are caught out as much as everywhere else.

The point: zero miles since leaves this almost as good to spotting it at the petrol pump. On the bottom of your tank sits exactly where AdBlue waits, because it won't blend with diesel — and a night going by makes nothing of the difference.

What to do: leave your keys inside the house so no one moves the vehicle in the morning. Then ring. Our technicians drain the vehicle on your driveway, whether that's in New Zealand or out in Bridport. The pumps are quiet enough to use outside a house after dark.

AdBlue drain on a forecourt in New Zealand

Set off with AdBlue in a diesel around New Zealand?

You filled up, set off, and a mile or two later the engine began to run unevenly, smoke, lose power or light up the dashboard. It might have been heading to Wells, under 50 miles away, or just down South Mill Lane.

In short: the AdBlue has been pulled through your fuel system. Mileage decides how far it gets: filter and pipework to begin with, then the injection pump and each injector. More miles, more restarts: further it goes.

Do this: pull up somewhere sensible, then switch your engine off. On the M5, under 25 miles from New Zealand, that means the next exit, not the services further on. No test starts: clearing isn't something AdBlue does. Tell us know the mileage driven when you ring.

A hire or company car with AdBlue in the wrong tank?

You have had the vehicle hardly a week. Unbeknown to you, the two inlets are side by side here — not like your own car, which has no AdBlue or stores it in another spot. Anyone, wherever across Dorset, might make the same.

The upshot: exactly as above, divided by if it ran, only with one added stage. Many hire and company contracts want the owner to approve work on the vehicle.

Next: phone the rental company or the fleet manager first, then us — settling it before our arrival is faster. Stranded near Bridport Library or at Maiden Newton until the firm replies, the car remains turned off the whole time.

Unsure about AdBlue in the diesel tank in New Zealand?

Sometimes the honest answer is "I think so". Too light, the bottle; a trace of ammonia near your filler; a hazy memory of which cap. Look familiar? Maybe on a friend's driveway in Watton, or in a rush by Bridport Primary School on the school run.

The point: the motor isn't hurt by some AdBlue spilled on the filler. If it's inside your diesel tank, though, that changes. If there is AdBlue in the tank, starting the vehicle would draw it in, and it wouldn't tell you which either.

Next: assume it got in, and keep your motor off. Ring us and describe what you saw; we'd rather check a tank that turns out clean than drain one that has already been run.

What each AdBlue drain in New Zealand has in common

Whichever situation you are in, the job starts the same way. Anywhere the vehicle stands — Woodman Inn's car park, a street by Electric Palace, a driveway, a forecourt — the van gets there and we ask about the fluid, the amount, and if your engine has been run. Your price comes over the phone, ahead of anyone setting off, and the replies set the job.

Then the tank is drained and the system flushed thoroughly, which counts more with AdBlue than with petrol: AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it does not rinse out on its own. Your filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; fresh diesel goes in; and your car is tested. Never started? In that case roughly half an hour once we are there covers most jobs.

Lastly, our technicians start it. Before our technicians leave, it is tested to be sure it runs correctly on new diesel. The whole job is done where your car is, and if it is spotted early, lasting damage is very rare. You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer. It is worth remembering: many insurers include misfuelling cover, so a quick look at your documents while you wait pays.

New Zealand and Dorset: AdBlue drains across the area

New Zealand is a coastal area, and the same teams that cover it work the places near it too, Coneygar and Allington among them, across the DT postcode area. The whereabouts comes quickest from a postcode that starts DT6 3.

Whether the car is on a lay-by on the way to St Mary's Churchyard or in a car park in the middle of New Zealand, it doesn't need to move. The drain happens on the spot. Awkward to pin down? By Bridport United Church or a county line? Asking beats assuming, so phone.
