North Camp: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Find Your Situation

What to do about AdBlue in a diesel tank depends on one thing more than any other: whether the engine has been run since it got in. Wherever your car is — North Town, North Camp — never start a motor that hasn't been started yet. Ring 0333 366 0103 with the ignition and engine still off. In North Camp, such a case is typically drained and cleaned where it stands. Where the motor has run, stop safely straight away, then switch it off. A larger job, yes, but the identical opening move.

Below: the cases we see, anywhere around Hampshire. Choose yours.

AdBlue in a diesel on a North Camp forecourt

Only now, bottle still in hand, you realise that the cap you took off was the wrong one, right at the pump. Be it Shell, JET or somewhere else around North Camp, the case is the same.

Put simply: no better spot to be to discover it. The AdBlue is inside the tank and nowhere else. Nothing has drawn it in.

Clearing the pump is no excuse to start it — and so don't get back in. Ask the attendants to help you push the vehicle into a parking bay, keep your receipt or the bottle, then ring us from the forecourt. If it cannot be shifted, it can be emptied at the petrol pump: the equipment is explosion-proof and fine on a working forecourt.

At home around North Camp with AdBlue in the diesel tank

Several days had passed with the warning light on. Bought a bottle, tipped it in at home, recycled the empty — and at that point looked at the cap again, too late. It takes place on driveways just off Queen's Avenue as commonly as anywhere.

Meaning? Provided your car hasn't been driven since, it's close to the forecourt case. Diesel and AdBlue keep apart: the AdBlue drops to the floor of that tank and remains put, however long the night.

Next: stop any early-morning move by keeping your keys in the house, then ring us. Our technicians drain it on your drive, whether that is in North Camp or out in Montgomery Lines. Night-time drains beside a house are no problem: the pumps are quiet.

AdBlue in a diesel and already driving around North Camp?

You filled up, set off, and a mile or two later the engine began to run roughly, smoke, lose power or light up the dashboard. Possibly it was on Blenheim Park, perhaps on the way out towards Winchester, under 50 miles away.

What it means: the system has sucked the AdBlue in. Through the fuel filter, through the pipework, and — the more the distance — deeper into the injection pump and each injector. More driving, more restarts: further it goes.

Pull in safely — that is the next step — then turn it off. Leave at the next junction — not the services beyond — if you are on the M3, under 3 miles from North Camp. Starting it again to test achieves nothing — AdBlue doesn't clear on its own. Roughly what distance had it go? Tell us as you phone.

AdBlue in the wrong tank: hire, lease and company vehicles

Seven days back, the car was new to you. Unbeknown to you, the two inlets are side by side here — unlike your own car, which has none or stores it elsewhere. It can happen to anyone, anywhere across Hampshire.

What it means: the same as the situations above, depending on whether it has run, with one more stage. Many rental and company contracts require the owner's approval for work.

Next: phone the rental company or your fleet manager first, and then us — sorting it before our arrival is faster. Keep it switched off as the answer arrives, whether you are waiting outside the nearest station or close to Aldershot Military Museum.

Unsure about AdBlue in your diesel tank in North Camp?

At times, "I think so" is all you can honestly say. The bottle is lighter than it should be, there's a faint smell of ammonia round the filler, and you can't remember which cap you took off. Maybe on a friend's drive in Farnborough, or in a rush by Marlborough Infant School at the school run.

Put simply: a spill round your filler leaves your engine unharmed. If it's inside the diesel tank, though, it does. Turning on the car won't tell you which, and if there is AdBlue in your tank it will suck it in.

Take it that it went in, and don't turn the key. Phone with the details: we'd rather find a clean tank than drain one after the engine has been run.

The common ground in each North Camp AdBlue drain

Each case has the same opening to the job. Three questions come once our technicians arrive — on a forecourt, a drive, a road by Ramillies Copse or the car park outside The North Camp: the fluid, the quantity, and if the motor has run. Those replies settle the work, and you hear the quote by phone, before anybody sets off.

Then the tank is drained and the system purged thoroughly, which matters more with AdBlue than with petrol: AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, so it does not rinse out on its own. Then is your filter — flushed, or swapped where necessary — then fresh diesel, and a test of the vehicle. Where the engine hasn't run, allow about half an hour on site, for most cases.

Starting the engine comes at the end. Our technicians check it runs properly on clean diesel before we leave. The entire job is done where the vehicle is, and when it's noticed early, long-term damage is very unusual. Nothing is paid upfront, payment happens on the day, and you receive what the insurer wants: an engineer report and a VAT invoice. Worth knowing: many insurers include misfuelling cover, and so a check of your documents as you wait pays.

AdBlue drains across Hampshire, North Camp included

South Farnborough and Ash Vale have the same teams as North Camp, a residential suburb, along with other towns throughout GU postcodes. Giving us a GU11 2 postcode pins you fastest of all.

Whether the car is on a lay-by on the way to Napier Gardens or in a car park in the middle of North Camp, it doesn't need to shift. Wherever it stands, that's where it is drained. Assuming won't help beside Rugby Stadium, close to a county line or somewhere awkward to pin down; phone and ask.
