Preventing AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in North Fambridge: Why It Occurs
If AdBlue is already in your diesel tank, stop reading for a moment: leave the engine and the ignition off then call 0333 366 0103. Usually, if your motor has not turned, it is drained and fully purged where your vehicle is in North Fambridge. If you are reading before it has happened, the remainder of this page is about why it takes place and how to make sure it doesn't.
Why does AdBlue in a diesel motor need its own filler?
Many newer diesels in Great Canney, as well as North Fambridge, carry on two fluids; the motor takes just the diesel. Its own tank holds it, and from there it goes to your exhaust, and there spraying cleans the fumes.
There's a filler on every tank. Other motors keep the AdBlue filler in your boot or under the bonnet; plenty of others have the two together behind one flap. Diesel goes in at every filling station call-out, week in, week out. A driver who has to stop and think where it goes normally fills the AdBlue side, from a bottle, and far less regularly. The mistake lives in that gap.
North Fambridge: how AdBlue in the diesel tank takes place
It's rarely carelessness. Three things tend to line up.
Haste follows from the warning. The vehicle warns you as AdBlue runs low, and a dry tank puts the vehicle into limp mode — so the top-up happens quickly, before work on a drive off The Avenue, or on the way home in the car park outside The Ferry Boat Inn.
New-to-you vehicles are next, as well. Rentals, new vehicles and company motors put their fillers in new places, and the hand reaches for the cap it used on the old one.
Lastly, the bottle fits: diesel filler or AdBlue one, it slides in just as easily, and once the pour starts, no part stops it. Whether it occurs in South Fambridge or the middle of North Fambridge, it is the same few seconds.
The AdBlue filler and your diesel filler: telling them apart
A few seconds is all the checks take — so run through them before you pour anything, on a drive in South Woodham Ferrers or a forecourt around North Fambridge.
- Position can mislead; the cap does not. AdBlue ones tend to be blue or carry the word "AdBlue" — diesel ones usually don't.
- The size. On many vehicles the AdBlue filler neck is the smaller of the two.
- Look inside the fuel flap: plenty of cars have a label there saying which fuel goes where.
- Cannot see it next to the diesel inlet? In that case look beneath the bonnet or in the boot — the handbook will say where.
- Whoever had it before will know. Check when you pick up a hire car or company car — at the nearest station's car park, perhaps — not once the light appears.
How to top up without AdBlue in the diesel tank
On the day the light comes on — anywhere it is in Essex — a simple routine to use.
- Not in a rush on the side of Manor Way, not on a slope, not with the engine running: park then switch off properly.
- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds daft and it does the trick.
- If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle — and leave the vehicle on.
- Stop when that tank is topped up or the bottle runs dry; until then, pour gently using the own spout.
- Close the cap and check again. Make sure the diesel cap was never opened. Only then start the car.
Find during the second or third step that the bottle went in the diesel tank? That's where you stop. Never go on to stage five.
AdBlue in the diesel tank already, in North Fambridge?
Then the order of things is short. Don't start the motor. The fuel pump starts on plenty of diesels as soon as your ignition goes on — so keep it off. Filling up with diesel won't weaken it: instead, AdBlue drops to the base of your tank, just where the fuel is taken from.
On a forecourt — Asda, Texaco or any other — the attendants will usually help roll your car clear, if you ask. At home around North Fambridge? Then the vehicle remains where it is.
Already started? Stop once it's sensible, then switch off. North Fambridge lies under 25 miles from the M25; on it, take the next junction. Tell us about how far it went: a run towards Southend-on-Sea, under 10 miles away, is a bigger job than a short hop across North Fambridge.
North Fambridge: what happens when we get there
The van comes to your car anywhere it has come to rest — your own driveway, beside Holy Trinity, North Fambridge, or outside Cold Norton Primary School. What liquid got in, the quantity, and whether it ran: our engineers ask since those replies set the work and price. No one heads out until you've heard the price by phone.
The fuel system is then cleaned thoroughly, after your tank is cleared. More than with petrol, it counts with AdBlue: crystals build up, certain metals corrode, and none of it washes away on its own, however long it is left. Filter cleaned or, where needed, swapped; clean diesel in; then a check of the vehicle. We do not leave until it has been fired up and is running smoothly.
Most jobs are done in about half an hour once we arrive, as long as the engine hasn't run — and the pumps our technicians use are fine on a busy forecourt yet quiet at night beside a house. Paying is on the day, not upfront, and you receive the paperwork an insurer wants: an engineer report and a VAT invoice. While we travel, have a look at your policy; plenty include cover for misfuelling.
