Paddington: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Find Your Situation
One thing counts most once AdBlue is in a diesel tank, and that is if the motor has run since. If it has not, keep it that way, whether your car is around Paddington itself or out in Grange. Usually this means emptying and thoroughly flushing it on the spot in Paddington — so leave the ignition and motor off and call 0333 366 0103. Pull over the minute it is safe then turn off, if it has been run. Step one stays the same, even if the job is bigger.
Below: the situations we see, anywhere around Cheshire. Pick yours.
Paddington forecourt: AdBlue in a diesel at the pump
You're at the pump, the nozzle or the bottle still in your hand, and you have just noticed the cap you opened was the wrong one. Anywhere around Paddington, then — EG On the Move, Asda, or somewhere else nearby.
The upshot: of all places to find out, this is the best. Just that tank has AdBlue; no part past it has drawn it in.
Clearing the petrol pump is no excuse to run it — so do not get back in. Ring us from the forecourt after the vehicle sits in a space — the attendants will lend a hand to roll it — and save the bottle. Stuck beside the pump? Explosion-proof equipment makes a busy forecourt safe, and so we can drain the car where it is.
Paddington, at home: AdBlue in the diesel tank
For days the dashboard had been nagging you. You bought a bottle, poured it in on the drive, and only when you put the empty bottle in the recycling did you look once more at the cap. Houses just off Gordon Avenue get caught out as often as anywhere else.
Meaning? As long as the vehicle hasn't been driven since, it's second to the pump case. AdBlue doesn't mix with diesel; it sinks to the bottom of the tank and waits there. Overnight doesn't change that.
Next: stop an early move by keeping the keys in the house, then ring us. Woolston or Paddington: wherever your drive is, that is where it is emptied. Even at night, our pumps are quiet enough for a residential street.
Paddington: set off with AdBlue in a diesel?
Lumpy running, smoke, falling power or a glowing dashboard started a short way after the fill. Anywhere along Holes Lane or else on the road towards Salford — under 15 miles away.
The point: your system has drawn AdBlue in already. Past the filter, through the pipework, and — the further the mileage — on into the injection pump and each injector. More miles, more restarts: deeper it travels.
What to do: pull over where it is safe to do so then switch off. Leave at the first junction — not the services further along — if you're on the M6, under a mile from Paddington. It won't have cleared, so there's no point starting it again to check. Let us know the mileage covered when you ring.
AdBlue in the wrong tank: hire, lease and company vehicles
A week ago, it was unknown to you. The AdBlue filler sits right beside the diesel filler, which you did not know, since your own vehicle either has no AdBlue or keeps it somewhere else. It can happen to anyone, anywhere in Cheshire.
Meaning? Whatever case above counts here — run or unrun — and one further step. The owner frequently needs to approve any work, under many hire and fleet agreements.
Sorting it before the van turn up is faster, and so ring the rental company or your fleet manager, then us. Keep it off while the reply arrives, even if you are parked at Padgate or near Monk Sports & Social Club.
Paddington: unsure if it was AdBlue in the diesel tank?
"I think so" is often as honest as it gets. Too light, that bottle; a trace of ammonia round the filler; no clear recollection of the cap. Look familiar? Maybe at a friend's drive in Longbarn, or rushing outside Woolston Community Primary School at the school run.
Meaning? Drips around the inlet don't reach the motor at all. The diesel tank with AdBlue in it is a different story. Firing up your car cannot tell you which, and if there is AdBlue in the tank it would pull it in.
Next: assume it went in, and leave your engine off. Tell us what you saw on your phone. A clear tank looked at is a better result than a run one drained.
Paddington: what every AdBlue drain has in common
Each situation has the same start to the work. Our engineers come to the car, whether it is at a forecourt, a drive, the car park outside Dog & Partridge or a side street close to Woolston Library, and ask three things: what went in, about how much, and if the motor has run. Those replies settle the work, and you hear our price on the phone, before anybody sets off.
Emptying your tank comes first, then a full flush — more important after urea than with petrol, because crystals and corrosion won't clear by themselves, no matter how long it sits. Then comes the fuel filter — flushed, or replaced where necessary — followed by fresh diesel, and a test of the car. Where the engine hasn't run, allow about half an hour once we arrive, in most jobs.
We start the car last. Our test that it runs smoothly on fresh diesel comes before we head off. The whole job is done where the vehicle is, and when it's noticed soon, lasting damage is very rare. Nothing is taken upfront, payment is made on the day, and you get what your insurer asks for: an engineer report plus a VAT invoice. Worth knowing: lots of insurers include misfuelling cover, so a quick look at your policy as we travel is worthwhile.

Paddington and Cheshire: AdBlue drains across the area
Being a residential suburb, Paddington has the same vans as the surrounding towns — Padgate, Bruche — all the way through WA postcodes. Fastest of all: a WA1 4 postcode for where you stand.
Centre of Paddington or a layby near Woolston Linear Park: wherever it sits, your vehicle doesn't need to move at all for us. The drain is done right there. Tricky to explain? Close to Woolston Leisure Centre or a county line? Asking beats guessing, and so ring.
