AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Paradise? Keep It Switched Off

AdBlue in the diesel tank? Then keep the engine off — and your ignition as well. Water with urea mixed in it: that's AdBlue. It does not burn, it doesn't mix with diesel, and the damage it does starts when your fuel system draws it in. A drain and a thorough flush, done where your car is around Paradise, is usually all AdBlue in a diesel tank takes — if it's caught before your engine has been run. Before you do anything else, ring 0333 366 0103.

Paradise, AdBlue in the diesel tank: what to do at once

Do these:

  • So no one can turn your ignition on, take the keys out.
  • Put your hazards on if you're anywhere close to moving traffic.
  • The empty bottle or the till receipt shows us the fluid and the quantity, and so don't throw it away.
  • The van finds you quickest with a postcode starting CV6 5, or simply the name of a street close by, and so phone from the car.

Not to do:

  • No starting your engine — not briefly, not to reposition the vehicle.
  • Do not switch the ignition on. On many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.
  • Pouring in extra diesel doesn't help: AdBlue separates out instead of thinning.
  • Any driving at all is to be avoided, even a short stretch along Eden Street.
  • By the road, don't try emptying it yourself.

At a forecourt in Paradise, whether it is the Gulf or another one, ask the staff to help you push the vehicle clear of the petrol pump. If you are on your own drive, leave it just where it is.

AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

The motor isn't what AdBlue is made for; your exhaust is. From a separate reservoir it goes directly to your exhaust, cleaning what your motor emits. A fuel pump is not made to cope with it, and AdBlue was never supposed to go through one.

Fuel mixes; AdBlue, after tipped in, will not. Its behaviour is not at all like fuel's. The pickup takes fuel from the lowest part of the tank, and that is just where AdBlue settles: as it is heavier than diesel, it sinks. A car topped up on a driveway in Parting of the Heaths overnight and not started since counts as the straightforward case. Nothing has sucked the AdBlue up so far — but when your engine turns, that's what is pulled first, directly from the bottom of that tank.

It does two kinds of damage from there. It attacks some metals used in fuel systems, attacking whatever it reaches till it is cleared completely. And when the water evaporates, the urea forms crystals that clog filters and settle in narrow passages. By daybreak, a vehicle parked around Paradise with AdBlue in its lines gets worse; if it's only in your tank, nothing changes. The water in it causes damage of its own: your high-pressure pump and the injectors rely on diesel to lubricate them, and water gives them nothing.

AdBlue in a diesel: why it's regularly worse than petrol

An issue of thinned fuel is what you get from fuelling a diesel with petrol from the Texaco. No harm is done while it sits put, mixed into your diesel — only once the motor works on it.

AdBlue in a diesel is another matter: not thin fuel, yet no fuel at all. Not burning, it can't just be run through. Whether your car sits in Stoke Heath or the heart of Paradise, turning it over "to see" does more harm with AdBlue than almost any other error, and the flush matters more. Why: it won't stay blended, and so watering it down fails; and deposits and corrosion survive the next tankful.

With AdBlue, the good news is no separate from petrol. If your motor has not run, the AdBlue is still inside your tank, and your tank is the quickest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever across West Midlands your car is sitting.

AdBlue in a diesel tank around Paradise: how it ends up there

No one means to do it. The AdBlue filler on plenty of vehicles rests right next to the diesel filler, occasionally under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light. Mostly it takes place with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the drive, not at the forecourt.

A few familiar ways account for the majority of them. Rushing, outside Stanton Bridge Primary School, after a warning lamp came on during the school run, someone refills your car. Someone tips the bottle in at home, just off B4109, as the day ends. Otherwise, after dark outside Adam & Eve, the car gets refilled by a driver using that flap the first time.

The least known cars see it the most — rentals, new cars, fleet ones, and the other vehicle of a home with both fuel types. An identical slip, same first step — keep it off — wherever you happen to be around Paradise or the remainder of West Midlands.

Paradise: started the motor with AdBlue in your diesel tank?

Then the tank is no longer where the AdBlue is. It has been sucked through the filter and the lines, and if the engine ran for any time, it has reached the high-pressure pump and the injectors.

You may see your engine running roughly, smoking, losing power, showing warning lights or cutting out, perhaps on the way back from Tallants Road green space or halfway across Paradise. No starting it again to test: stop once safe, then turn everything off. With each start, more of that is pulled through.

Exit the M6, under 3 miles from Paradise, at the first junction and stop somewhere safe, not driving on.

Each mile pushes the AdBlue deeper into your system. That is why crossing Paradise to park near TK Maxx and a drive of under 3 miles towards Coventry are such different jobs. Let us know roughly how far it had come.

There's more to clean out once the motor has run, and our technicians do all of it where your car has ended up. When it is caught soon, long-term damage is very rare.

What draining AdBlue from a diesel involves around Paradise

Our technicians come to your car, wherever it has stopped in Paradise: a side street near Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt. The work rests on three answers, which our technicians ask for first — what was put in, the amount, and if the engine has turned over.

Then that tank is emptied where your car sits, so the tainted fuel and the AdBlue come out together. With AdBlue, more so than with petrol, the flush matters: the whole system is cleaned right through since residue will not flush out unaided. Next, your filter: flushed, or changed if it has to be. Then clean diesel, and then a check of the car. Roughly half an hour on site is usual for most jobs where the motor hasn't run. Our equipment is explosion-proof, and so a live filling station is no issue, and it is hushed enough for a residential street after dark.

The last step is to bleed the fuel system on clean diesel. After that our technicians start the engine and you set off, whether from a parking space at Coventry Arena or a driveway around Paradise. Before leaving, we check it is running correctly with new diesel in. As the job is done in full where your car is, a garage never comes into it. Insurers want a VAT invoice and an engineer report, and both come afterwards.

AdBlue drains across Paradise and West Midlands

AdBlue call-outs in Paradise go to vans that cover the towns around it — Edgwick, Great Heath plus Court House Green — and much of West Midlands beyond, across CV postcodes. If you are close to a border, or somewhere hard to describe, ring and ask rather than assuming.

No moving is needed. In Paradise, a residential suburb, a van that comes to you fits: the car is drained where it stands, be it in a driveway, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt.

AdBlue in a diesel tank in Paradise: the cost of fixing it

Because each callouts differ, a single price would not be fair. Whether your engine has run, and for how long, comes first in what shifts the price. How much AdBlue got in comes next, and then the location of your car, because an open driveway is easier for a technician to get to safely than a tight gap behind St Volodymyr the Great.

What went in, how much, plus if it ran: every Paradise enquiry opens with exactly those, ahead of a figure, not afterwards. The replies turn a range into a straight price.

Before a van sets off, you hear our price on the phone. Then you pay on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront. As the van is on the way, check your insurance: plenty include misfuelling.
