AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Pledwick? Don't Start It

Engine off, ignition off: that's where you begin if AdBlue has gone into the diesel tank. Water with urea dissolved in it: that's AdBlue. It does not burn, it doesn't mix with diesel, and the harm it does starts when the system pulls it in. If the motor has not run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is normally emptied and carefully flushed where the vehicle stands in Pledwick. Phone 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

Those opening minutes: AdBlue in your diesel tank in Pledwick

Do these:

  • Remove your keys, and that prevents anyone turning the electrics on.
  • If you're anywhere close to moving traffic, put the hazards on.
  • The empty bottle or your receipt tells us the fluid and the quantity, so don't bin it out.
  • Tell us a postcode starting WF2 6, or whatever street is closest, and our van finds you directly — so ring wherever you are.

Never:

  • Not even for a second, and not to shift your vehicle: your motor remains off.
  • Many diesels run their fuel pump the instant your ignition goes on, so leave the vehicle off.
  • AdBlue doesn't mix in diesel — it separates out — so adding extra diesel won't thin it.
  • Any driving at all is best avoided, even a short distance up Swift Way.
  • By the road, don't attempt draining it on your own.

Ask the attendants to help you move the car off the island if you are at a forecourt in Pledwick, whether it is the JET or somewhere else. On the drive, your car remains exactly where it is.

What does AdBlue do in a diesel tank?

Made for the exhaust, AdBlue has no place in your engine. Its own reservoir holds it, and from there it's fed into the exhaust, and there it cleans the fumes. A fuel pump is not designed to take it, and AdBlue was never intended to travel through one.

Fuel blends; AdBlue, after tipped in, will not. The behaviour is nothing like diesel's. It drops, since it is heavier than diesel, and pools down where the intake draws its fuel from. A motor topped up on a driveway in Newmillerdam yesterday evening and left unstarted is the simple case. No pump has sucked the AdBlue up yet — though when your engine turns, that is what goes first, directly from the bottom of your tank.

It causes two kinds of damage from there. As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it's corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, so it keeps labouring on the components it reaches for as long as it remains there. Pipes holding AdBlue spell harm overnight for a car parked around Pledwick. Just in your tank, it stays the same. Diesel protects the high-pressure pump and every injector as it passes; water gives no lubrication, which is a second form of harm.

Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is often worse

Fill a diesel with petrol in error at the Asda, and the problem is diluted fuel. Mixed through your diesel and sitting still, it's harmless for now; using the engine does the harm.

The issue with AdBlue in a diesel is a totally wrong liquid. It can't simply be run through, since it does not burn. Deposits and corrosion remain after the next fill, and AdBlue separates back out of the diesel, and so thinning it can't help. Hence the flush counts so much, and trying your engine "to see" costs more here than almost any other mistake — in Kettlethorpe or the centre of Pledwick equally.

The good news is the same as with petrol. Anywhere in West Yorkshire the car has come to rest, an unstarted motor means the AdBlue yet inside the reservoir: the easiest part of any fuel system to empty.

How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank in Pledwick

It is not deliberate. Many vehicles have the AdBlue inlet beside the diesel inlet, now and then behind a single flap, and muddling them up is simple after dark. Most of the time it happens with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the drive, not at the forecourt.

A couple of familiar ways account for the majority of them. Hurrying, outside Hendal Primary School, after a warning light came on during the school run, a parent tops up the car. A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off Pledwick Crescent. Or your car is topped up in the car park outside Pledwick Well Inn, in poor light, by a person who has never opened that flap before.

It comes up the most in a hire car, a brand-new motor, a fleet motor, or the other motor in a home with both fuels — the cars drivers know the least. Same slip, same first response — keep it switched off — wherever you happen to be in Pledwick or the rest of West Yorkshire.

AdBlue in your diesel tank in Pledwick, and the motor started?

The AdBlue has left that tank, then. The filter and lines have had it pulled along, and any running carries it on to the injection pump and every injector.

Watch for rough running, exhaust smoke, falling power, warnings on the dash, or a cut-out — coming back from Pledwick Cricket Club, say, or midway across Pledwick. No restarting to check: stop once it is safe, then turn everything off. More of it is pulled through with each start.

On the M1, under 3 miles from Pledwick, the next junction is where to leave, and somewhere sensible is where to stop — not carrying on.

How far it went counts. A few hundred yards across Pledwick to the car park by War Memorial is a very different job from a run towards Wakefield, under 3 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into the system with every mile. Tell us roughly how far it had come.

Once the motor has run, the flush takes in more, and all of it is done where the car has come to a stop. If it's noticed soon, long-term damage is very rare.

Pledwick: how AdBlue is cleared from a diesel

Anywhere it has come to rest in Pledwick — a filling station, a lay-by, a driveway, a road beside St Peters & St Pauls Church — the van travels to the vehicle. Which fluid was put in, about how much, plus if your motor has been run: our technicians ask first, because those shape the work.

The contaminated diesel and the urea leave together after the tank is drained, on the spot. A full flush matters far more with AdBlue than after petrol, because residue will not wash out on its own. The fuel filter is cleaned, or replaced where it needs to be; fresh diesel goes in; and your car is tested. Most of these jobs are a half-hour visit once our engineers get there, if the engine hasn't run. Explosion-proof pumps mean a live forecourt safe to work on, and they run quiet enough not to disturb the street at night.

Fresh diesel goes in to prime your system, and that's the final step. Whether it's a parking bay outside Sandal & Agbrigg or a drive around Pledwick, that is where our technicians start it and you set off. We check it runs properly on clean diesel before leaving. Our engineers do it all wherever the car has ended up, and it never has to be taken to a garage. Afterwards, there is the paperwork for your insurer: a VAT invoice and a report from the engineer.

AdBlue drains in Pledwick and across West Yorkshire

Our vans that answer AdBlue calls around Pledwick also cover the locations round it, Woolgreaves, Hill Top and Stand Bridge among them, and most of West Yorkshire beyond, across the WF postcode area. Guessing doesn't help by a county line or anywhere hard to describe; ring and check.

No towing is needed. In Pledwick, a residential suburb, a mobile service works: your car is emptied where it stands, whether on a drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt.

What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right in Pledwick

Every job differs, so not one single price is honest. Whether the engine has been running, and for how long, comes first in what moves the price. How much AdBlue was put in comes next, and then the position of your car, because an open driveway is simpler for a van to reach safely than a tight gap behind Lakeside Methodist Cenre.

That is why each call from Pledwick starts with the same three queries, asked before giving a figure, not after: what was put in, how much, and if it's run. When those are known, a range becomes a single firm number.

Our quote is quoted on the call, before anyone leaves; payment happens on the day, by card or by phone, and nothing upfront. Misfuelling cover is part of many insurance policies, so it is worth looking at yours before the van gets there.
