Revidge: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Find Your Situation

One fact counts most when AdBlue is in a diesel tank, and it is whether the motor has been started afterwards. Anywhere the vehicle is — Wensley Fold, Revidge — don't start an engine that hasn't run yet. Normally this means draining and thoroughly cleaning it right there around Revidge — so leave your ignition and motor off then ring 0333 366 0103. When your engine has been run, pull in somewhere safe straight away, then turn the car off. Stage one remains the same, even though the job grows.

Below: the cases our engineers see, wherever in Lancashire. Pick yours.

At the petrol pump around Revidge: AdBlue in a diesel

You are at the pump, the nozzle or the bottle still in your hand, and you have just noticed the cap you opened was the wrong one. Whether EG On the Move, Prestonway Service Station or anywhere else around Revidge, the case is identical.

Put simply: there is no better place to be to spot it. Still in your tank, with nothing pulled onwards: that is where the AdBlue is.

Your move: stay out of the driver's seat, even if the pump wants freeing. A few things: a shove into a bay with the attendants assisting, the bottle kept, and a call to us from where you stand. Our equipment is explosion-proof and fine on a busy forecourt, so a vehicle that can't be pushed clear gets emptied where it is at the petrol pump.

AdBlue in your diesel tank on a Revidge drive?

Several days had passed with the dash light on. A bottle bought at the garage, emptied in at the driveway — and it's just by the recycling that the cap caught a second look. It happens on driveways just off Whitehall Road as regularly as anywhere.

Meaning? Provided the vehicle has not moved since, it's close to the pump case. As it is unable to mix, AdBlue settles low in the tank and stays. One night standing changes nothing.

Next: prevent an early move by putting your keys indoors, then phone us. Our engineers drain the vehicle on your drive, whether that's in Revidge or out in Beardwood. Our equipment works quiet enough not to disturb the neighbours at night.

Revidge: set off with AdBlue in a diesel?

Lumpy running, smoke, falling power or a lit dashboard arrived a mile or two after the top-up. Somewhere along Ravenswing Avenue or on the road towards Preston — under 10 miles away.

Put simply: the AdBlue has been pulled into your fuel system. It has been through the filter and the fuel lines and, the further you went, into the high-pressure fuel pump and the injectors. It travels further with each extra mile covered and every restart.

Pull in safely — that is the first step — then turn everything off. Service stations farther on can wait: on the M65, under 3 miles out of Revidge, use the first junction. Restarting it to check gets nothing — AdBlue doesn't clear on its own. Phone us and say how far you travelled.

Hire, lease or company car with AdBlue in the wrong tank

It's a car you have had for a week. Your own vehicle either does without AdBlue or puts it somewhere different, so no one warned you the AdBlue inlet was just next to the diesel. Anywhere you happen to be around Lancashire, any driver can be caught.

Put simply: an extra step on top of the cases above, which depend on whether it's run. The owner often needs to approve the work, under many rental and company agreements.

Next: ring the rental company or your fleet manager first, and then us — settling it before we arrive is quicker. If you're stranded in the car park at Blackburn, or by Colourfields Panopticon, while you wait for an answer, leave the car off.

Unsure about AdBlue in the diesel tank around Revidge?

Sometimes the honest answer is "I think so". A faint ammonia-like whiff hangs near the filler, the bottle feels too light, and the cap you took off is a blur. Possibly it happened in a hurry at the school gates at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Primary School Blackburn, or on a friend's drive in Bank Top.

Meaning? Drips around the inlet don't touch the engine at all. In your diesel tank, however, AdBlue harms it. You cannot tell which by turning the key, and doing so would suck in any AdBlue that is in your tank.

What to do: treat it as if it went in. Do not fire it up. Tell us what you saw on the phone. A clear tank looked at counts as a better result than a run one emptied.

Each AdBlue drain in Revidge shares these stages

Whichever situation you are in, this job starts the same way. Our engineers come to the vehicle, whether it is at a forecourt, a driveway, the car park at quarrymans or a side street near East Lancashire Club, and ask three things: what went in, roughly how much, and if your engine has been run. Those answers decide this work, and you hear the quote by phone, before anybody heads out.

A thorough flush comes after this drain. With petrol it is standard; with AdBlue it's essential, since crystals build up and some metals corrode, and neither washes out unaided. Last come the fuel filter, cleaned or renewed as needed; clean diesel; and a check of the vehicle. Not started? In that case about half an hour on site is most jobs.

Firing it up comes at the end. Our check that it runs properly on fresh diesel comes before our engineers leave. Our engineers do the whole job where your car is, and permanent damage is very unusual when it has been noticed early. For your insurer: the engineer's report and the VAT invoice. For you: payment on the day, no money in advance. Plenty of insurance policies include misfuelling, so look at yours while the van travels.

Lammack and Four Lane Ends get the identical vans as Revidge, a residential suburb, along with further places over BB postcodes. A postcode starting BB2 6 is the quickest way to tell us where you are.

No moving is required, whether parked centrally in Revidge or on a lay-by en route to Corporation Park, and so keep it where it is. Draining happens on the spot. Phone and check rather than guess if you're close to The Tank Toposcope, on a boundary, or somewhere awkward to explain.
