AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Sileby, and What to Do Next

One thing matters above all once AdBlue is in a diesel tank, and that is whether your engine has run afterwards. Not started so far? Then keep the car that way, wherever your car sits — Sileby or Seagrave. Leave your motor and the ignition off then call 0333 366 0103; it is usually a drain and a thorough flush, done where your car is in Sileby. If it's run, stop as soon as it is safe and switch off. Stage one stays the same, even though the job grows.

Anywhere in Leicestershire it took place, one of the cases below matches yours.

On a Sileby forecourt with AdBlue in a diesel

You are at the pump, the nozzle or the bottle still in your hand, and you have just noticed the cap you opened was the wrong one. Be it Shell, BP or anywhere else around Sileby, the case is identical.

What it means: this is the best location to find out. No pump has drawn it through, so the AdBlue stays only inside your tank.

Next: avoid the urge to start it only to free up the pump. Ask the staff to help you roll the vehicle into a parking spot, keep the receipt or the bottle, and ring us from the forecourt. If it cannot be moved, it can be emptied at the petrol pump: the equipment is explosion-proof and fine on a working forecourt.

AdBlue in your diesel tank at home in Sileby

For days the dash had been warning you. A bottle bought at the shop, tipped in at the drive — and it's just by the recycling that the cap caught a second look. It takes place on drives just off Cygnet Close as frequently as anywhere.

What it means: if you have not driven since, this is almost as good as the forecourt. At the floor of that tank is exactly where AdBlue stays, because it won't mix with diesel — and a night going by changes no difference.

Keep the keys in the house tonight — otherwise someone may take it off first thing — and phone us. Our technicians drain it on your drive, whether that's around Sileby or out in Cossington. Even at night, the pumps are quiet enough for a residential street.

AdBlue in a diesel and already driving in Sileby?

Lumpy running, smoke, lost power or a glowing dashboard started a mile or two beyond the fill. Somewhere on Chaplin Close or else heading towards Leicester — under 10 miles away.

The point: your system has pulled AdBlue in by now. Mileage decides how deep it goes: filter and pipework first, then the injection pump and each injector. Each restart, like every mile, pushes it deeper.

What to do: pull over where it's safe to do so then switch off. Services farther on can wait: on the M1, under 10 miles out of Sileby, use the first junction. No test restarts: clearing itself isn't something AdBlue does. About what distance did it gone? Tell us as you phone.

A hire or company car with AdBlue in the wrong tank?

A week back, it was unknown to you. Your own motor either has no AdBlue or puts it elsewhere, and so nothing warned you the AdBlue cap sits just beside the diesel. It can happen to anyone, anywhere in Leicestershire.

What it means: the same as the situations above, depending on whether it has run, with one more step. Many hire and company contracts want the owner to approve work on your car.

Sorting it before we arrives is faster, and so phone the rental company or your fleet manager, and then us. If you're stuck in the car park at the nearest station, or by Sileby Library, while you wait for an answer, leave the car off.

Not sure it was AdBlue in the diesel tank, Sileby?

Truthfully, the best answer might be that you think so. Lighter, that bottle; a hint of ammonia round your filler; no clear memory of which cap. Sound familiar? A rushed top-up by the gates of Sileby Redlands Community Primary School, or a call to a friend in Rothley: either fit.

The upshot: the engine isn't hurt by some AdBlue spilled around the filler. AdBlue inside the diesel tank does. Any AdBlue in that tank would be pulled in by firing up the vehicle, and the start would not settle which it is in any case.

Assume it was put in, and don't start the engine. Call us and describe what you saw; we would rather check a tank that turns out free of AdBlue than drain one that has already been run.

The common ground in each Sileby AdBlue drain

The work begins identically, whichever the case. Three questions come when our technicians reach your car — at a filling station, a driveway, a road beside St Mary's Church or the car park at The Horse & Trumpet: the liquid, the amount, and if the motor has run. Replies set the work; the quote follows on the call while no one has set off yet.

AdBlue crystallises and eats at some metals used in fuel systems, and so it won't rinse out unaided; that is why the flush, after this drain, matters much more here than with petrol. Last come the fuel filter, flushed or renewed as needed; fresh diesel; and a test of the vehicle. The majority of unrun vehicles are a half-hour visit after the moment our engineers turn up.

The final step is firing it up. Before our engineers go, it is checked to be sure it runs smoothly on clean diesel. If it's spotted early, the vehicle very rarely has long-term damage, and the whole job happens where it is. For your insurer: the engineer's report and the VAT invoice. For you: payment that day, no money in advance. Dig out your insurance before we're en route: misfuelling cover is built into plenty of policies.

Sileby and Leicestershire: AdBlue drains across the area

As a village, Sileby shares its vans with the surrounding places — Ratcliffe on the Wreake, Mountsorrel — right across LE postcodes. A postcode starting LE12 7 is the quickest way to tell us where you are.

Centre of Sileby or a lay-by near Sileby Memorial Park: wherever it is, the vehicle doesn't need to move at all for this drain. The van drains it where it stands. Phone and check rather than guess if you are close to Cossington War Memorial, on a boundary, or somewhere tricky to pin down.
