AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Silverbank, and What to Do Next

One thing matters most once AdBlue is in a diesel tank, and it is whether the motor has run afterwards. Over in Deebank or right in Silverbank, an unstarted motor must remain that way. Call 0333 366 0103 with the key and motor still off. Across Silverbank, such a case is generally drained and cleaned on the spot. Already run? Pull over when safe, then turn it off. The job is bigger, but the first step is the same.

Further down: the cases our engineers meet, wherever across Aberdeenshire. Pick the one that fits.

AdBlue in a diesel on a Silverbank forecourt

You're at the pump, the nozzle or the bottle still in your hand, and you have just noticed the cap you opened was the wrong one. It might be the Tesco, or the Morrisons, or a different forecourt in Silverbank.

The point: of every spot to notice, this is the best. The AdBlue is inside your tank and nowhere else. Nothing has drawn it in.

Next: resist the temptation to fire it up just to free up the petrol pump. A few jobs: a push into a space with the attendants assisting, the receipt saved, and a call to us from where you stand. Our equipment is explosion-proof and fine on a live forecourt, and so a vehicle that can't be pushed away is cleared right at the pump.

AdBlue in your diesel tank on a Silverbank drive?

On the dash, a warning had been lit all week. Bought a container, poured it in at home, recycled the empty — and only then checked the cap again, too late. Homes just off Pantoch Gardens get caught out as much as anywhere else.

The upshot: no miles since leaves it nearly as good to spotting it at the petrol pump. Diesel and AdBlue stay separate: the AdBlue drops to the floor of that tank and remains there, however long the night.

Your move: keys in the house, and so no one drives your vehicle anywhere at breakfast. After that, phone. Your drive is where it gets drained, whether in Silverbank or Hill of Banchory. The equipment runs quietly enough that it won't wake the neighbours at night.

AdBlue drain on a forecourt in Silverbank

Set off with AdBlue in a diesel in Silverbank?

Topped up, drove away, and before long the engine was running roughly, smoking, losing power, or lighting up the dash. Chestnut Close, perhaps, or the way towards Aberdeen — a trip of under 25 miles.

What it means: the fuel system has sucked the AdBlue in. Through your filter, along the pipework, and — the further the mileage — on into the injection pump and each injector. Every restart, like every mile, pushes it on.

What to do: pull over where it is safe to do so and switch off. On the M90, over 50 miles from Silverbank, that means the next exit, not the services further on. Do not restart the vehicle to see if it has cleared; it will not have. Ring us and say how far you went.

Hire, lease or company car with AdBlue in the wrong tank

You have had this car barely a week. The AdBlue filler sits right next to the diesel filler, which you did not know, because your own vehicle either has no AdBlue or keeps it somewhere else. Throughout Aberdeenshire, nobody is safe from it.

The point: just as above, divided by whether it ran, but with an added step. The owner often needs to approve any work, under many rental and fleet agreements.

Settling it before we turn up is quicker, and so ring the hire company or your fleet manager, and then us. If you are stranded in the car park outside Stonehaven, or by Welcome to Banchory Stone, whilst you wait for an answer, leave your car off.

Not sure it was AdBlue in your diesel tank, Silverbank?

Truthfully, the only answer might be that you think so. Which cap was taken off, you can't recall; but the bottle feels less than it ought to, and a whiff of ammonia lingers by the filler. A rushed stop by the gates of the local primary school, or a call to a friend in Banchory: both fit.

Meaning? Spills outside the inlet don't touch the motor at all. AdBlue inside the diesel tank does. Turning on the car will not tell you which, and if there is AdBlue in the tank it would suck it in.

Next: assume it got in, then leave the motor off. Phone with what you saw: we'd sooner find a clean tank than empty one once the engine has been run.

Silverbank: what each AdBlue drain has in common

Each case gets the same start to the work. We come to your car, whether it is on a forecourt, a drive, the car park outside Scott Skinner's or a side street close to Banchory Sports Village, and ask three things: what went in, roughly how much, and whether the engine has been run. Those answers decide the work, and you get the price on the phone, before anybody sets off.

AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to certain metals used in fuel systems, and so it does not wash out unaided; that is why a full flush, after this drain, matters far more with AdBlue than with petrol. Finally are the filter, cleaned or replaced if necessary; clean diesel; and a check of the car. Never started? In that case roughly half an hour on site covers most jobs.

Firing it up comes last. With new diesel in, it runs while we confirm it is running correctly, and then we go. When it is noticed quickly, the car very rarely has permanent damage, and the entire job happens where it is. Nothing is taken upfront, settlement happens on the day, and you get what your insurer asks for: an engineer report and a VAT invoice. Dig out your insurance before we arrive: misfuelling cover comes included in many policies.

AdBlue drains around Silverbank and across Aberdeenshire

Lochton of Leys and Upper Lochton get the same vans as Silverbank, a small village, plus other places over AB postcodes. A postcode starting AB31 5 is the quickest way to tell us where you are.

Central Silverbank or a lay-by towards Tillybrake Playing Fields: either way it is, the vehicle doesn't need to move at all for us. Our van empties it where it stands. Phone and check instead of guessing if you're by Banchory Christian Fellowship, on a border, or anywhere awkward to pin down.
