AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Spring View: What Now?

All of it hinges on a single fact: whether the motor has started since the AdBlue was added — far more than anything else. Out in Bamfurlong or here around Spring View, an unrun engine must stay that way. Leave the motor and the ignition off then phone 0333 366 0103; it is generally a drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is in Spring View. When your motor has run, stop somewhere safe straight away, then turn the vehicle off. It's a larger job, yet step one doesn't change.

At the pump in Spring View: AdBlue in a diesel

Picture it: standing by the petrol pump, gripping the bottle, you realise the cap you took off was not the right one. It could be the Texaco, or perhaps the another forecourt nearby, or another forecourt in Spring View.

In short: no better spot exists to spot it. Still inside your tank, with no fuel pulled onwards: that is where the AdBlue is.

What to do: do not get back in and crank it to clear the pump. Get the staff to help pushing it into a space, hold on to the receipt, then phone us from there. The equipment is explosion-proof and safe on a live forecourt, so a car that can't be pushed away is drained right at the pump.

Spring View, at home: AdBlue in the diesel tank

The warning light had been on for days. Only at the recycling bin, the empty container in hand, did you glance back at the cap you had opened at the driveway. Driveways close to Fir Tree Drive see it as much as anywhere.

Meaning? As long as the vehicle hasn't been driven since, it's second to the forecourt case. As it is unable to mix, AdBlue settles to the base inside your tank and waits. A night standing alters nothing.

What to do: leave the keys inside the house so no one moves the car in the morning. Then call. Platt Bridge or Spring View: whichever your drive sits, that's where it gets drained. Even at night, our pumps stay quiet enough for a residential street.

AdBlue drain on a forecourt in Spring View

Set off with AdBlue in a diesel in Spring View?

You filled up, set off, and a mile or two later the motor began to run roughly, smoke, lose power or light up the dashboard. Somewhere on Fir Tree Street or else on the road to Salford — under 15 miles away.

Put simply: the AdBlue has been sucked into your fuel system. The high-pressure pump and every injector see it as well on a longer trip, after the fuel filter and pipework have it. It travels deeper with each mile driven and each restart.

Next: pick a safe place, pull in, and turn your motor off. Leave at the first junction — not the services further along — if you're on the Bryn Spur, under 3 miles from Spring View. Restarting it to check gets nothing — AdBlue never clears on its own. Phone, saying how far your vehicle was driven.

AdBlue in the wrong tank: hire, lease and company vehicles

A week back, the car was unknown to you. Unknown to you, the two fillers are next to each other here — not like your own vehicle, which has none or keeps it elsewhere. Anyone, wherever across Greater Manchester, might make it.

In short: one extra stage on top of the situations above, and those turn on whether it's run. Any work on the car frequently requires the owner's go-ahead under rental or company agreements.

What to do: call the hire firm or your fleet manager first, then us. That's faster settled before our technicians get there than after. Stranded by Hope Street Christian Fellowship or outside Ince till the firm answers, your car stays turned off the whole time.

Not sure it was AdBlue in your diesel tank, Spring View?

Honestly, the best answer might be that you think so. The bottle is lighter than it should be, there is a faint smell of ammonia round the filler, and you can't remember which cap you took off. Maybe it happened in a hurry at the school gates at St Mary's CofE Primary School, or on a friend's drive in Higher Ince.

Put simply: spillage near the filler leaves your engine no harm. Once it's inside your diesel tank, though, it does. If there is AdBlue in your tank, firing up the vehicle will suck it in, and it would not tell you which either.

What to do: treat it as if it went in. Don't fire it up. Call us and describe what you saw; we would rather check a tank that turns out free of AdBlue than drain one that has already been run.

Spring View: what every AdBlue drain has in common

No matter the case, one opening is used. Forecourt, drive, Owd Kess's's car park or a street beside Platt Bridge Community Centre — the van comes to your car, and three questions follow: which liquid, what quantity, and if it has run. Those replies determine the work, and you get the quote by phone, before anyone heads out.

A thorough flush comes after the drain. With petrol it's standard; with AdBlue it's essential, since deposits form and certain metals are attacked, and neither rinses away unaided. Then is the fuel filter — flushed, or swapped where necessary — followed by clean diesel, and a test of your car. Where your engine hasn't run, allow about half an hour on site, in most jobs.

Lastly, our engineers fire it up. With new diesel in, it runs while our technicians confirm it's running correctly, and then we go. We do the entire job where the vehicle is, and long-term damage is very rare when it has been spotted quickly. You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer. It is worth knowing: lots of insurers include misfuelling cover, and so a quick look at your documents while we travel pays.
