What Now? AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in The Fall
Has the engine turned over since the AdBlue got in? That single point decides nearly everything else from here. Wherever the vehicle is — Lawns, The Fall — never run a motor that has not been started yet. Normally this is emptying and thoroughly cleaning it on the spot around The Fall — and so leave the ignition and engine off then ring 0333 366 0103. Pull over the moment it is safe then switch off, if it has been run. It is a larger job, though step one does not change.
Below: the cases we see, anywhere in West Yorkshire. Pick yours.
On a The Fall forecourt with AdBlue in a diesel
You are at the pump, the nozzle or the bottle still in your hand, and you have just noticed the cap you opened was the wrong one. Maybe you're at the Esso, maybe at the BP, possibly somewhere else around The Fall.
Put simply: there is no better spot exists to spot it. Only your tank has AdBlue; not one component beyond it has taken it in.
Next: resist the urge to fire it up only to free up the pump. Phone us from the forecourt once the vehicle is in a space — the attendants will help roll it — and save the bottle. Can't move the vehicle by the pump? Explosion-proof kit keeps a busy forecourt safe, and so it can be drained in place.
The Fall, at home: AdBlue in the diesel tank
Days had gone by with the warning light on. Picked up a bottle, poured it in at home, binned the empty — and only then checked the cap again, after the fact. It occurs on drives just off Knoll Park as commonly as anywhere.
Meaning? Provided the vehicle has not moved since, it's second to the pump case. AdBlue doesn't mix with diesel; it sinks to the bottom of that tank and waits there. Overnight doesn't change that.
Next: keys in the house, and so nobody drives the vehicle off at breakfast. Then, phone. East Ardsley or The Fall: wherever your drive sits, that's where it gets drained. Even at night, the pumps stay quiet enough for a driveway.
On the road in The Fall with AdBlue in a diesel
Filled up, pulled away, and before long your motor was running roughly, smoking, losing power, or lighting up your dash. Moor Knoll Close, say, or the way to Wakefield — a trip of under 5 miles.
The upshot: your system has pulled AdBlue in already. The high-pressure pump and every injector see it too on a bigger run, once the filter and lines have it. It goes further with every extra mile covered and every restart.
Next: find a safe spot, pull in, then turn your motor off. On the M62, under a mile from The Fall, that means the next junction, not the services further on. Restarting it to test gets nothing — AdBlue doesn't clear itself. Phone us and say how far you travelled.
Hire, lease or company car with AdBlue in the wrong tank
A week ago, it was unknown to you. On your own car, AdBlue is absent or somewhere else. On this one, its cap is just next to the diesel inlet — a surprise to you. Anywhere you happen to be around West Yorkshire, every motorist can be caught.
Put simply: one extra step on top of the cases above, and those turn on if it has run. Many hire and fleet contracts need the owner's sign-off for repairs.
Next: ring the rental company or the fleet manager first, and then us — sorting it before we arrive is quicker. Stranded near East Ardsley Colliery Memorial or outside Outwood till the firm answers, your car remains turned off the whole time.
AdBlue in your diesel tank? Not sure, in The Fall
At times, "I think so" is the most you can truthfully say. A faint ammonia-like smell hangs around the filler, the bottle feels too light, and which cap came off is hard to recall. A hurried stop by the gates of East Ardsley Primary Academy, or a visit to a friend in Carr Gate: either fit.
In short: spillage round the filler does your motor no harm. If it is inside your diesel tank, though, that changes. Firing up the vehicle will not tell you which, and if there is AdBlue in the tank it will suck it in.
Next: assume it went in, then leave the motor off. Tell us what you saw on the phone. A clean tank looked at is a happier result than a run one drained.
The Fall: what every AdBlue drain has in common
Every situation has the same start to the job. Anywhere the vehicle stands — The Bedford Arms's car park, a street beside St Michaels Church, a drive, a filling station — our van gets there and asks about the fluid, the amount, plus whether your motor has turned over. On the phone, ahead of anything else, you are told our price, and those answers shape the work too.
Then your tank is cleared and your system rinsed thoroughly, which counts more with AdBlue than with petrol: AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, so it does not rinse out on its own. The filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; fresh diesel goes in; and the vehicle is tested. If the engine hasn't run, the majority of jobs take about half an hour once we're there.
Starting the engine comes at the end. Before we head off, it's tested to make sure it runs properly on clean diesel. Our technicians do the whole job where your car is, and long-term damage is very uncommon if it has been caught quickly. You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer. Plenty of policies include misfuelling, so look at yours while the van travels.

AdBlue drains around The Fall, and across West Yorkshire too

Parked heading to The Rec, or bang in the centre of The Fall, your vehicle stays where it is — there is no need to shift it at all. Where it stands, that is where it gets cleared. If you're somewhere hard to describe, near East Ardsley St Gabriels Church Youth Club or close to a boundary, ring and ask instead of guessing.
