The Manor: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Find Your Situation
Has your motor turned over since the AdBlue was put in? This single question decides almost everything about what comes next. Anywhere the car stands — Deep Pit, The Manor — never run an engine that has not been started yet. Switch nothing on, ring 0333 366 0103, and expect a proper flush after a drain, carried out just where your car sits in The Manor. Where the engine has been run, stop somewhere safe first, then turn it off. Stage one stays the same, even though the work grows.
Below: the cases we meet, anywhere across South Yorkshire. Pick the one that fits.
At the petrol pump in The Manor: AdBlue in a diesel
The cap you unscrewed was the wrong one — and you just spot it as you're standing at the pump, bottle or the nozzle in hand. It might be the City Road Service Station, or perhaps the Esso, or a different forecourt in The Manor.
Meaning? Spotting it here is the best it gets. Still inside that tank, and no fuel pulled through: that is where the AdBlue is.
What to do: do not get back in and fire it up to clear the pump. Have the attendants to lend a hand pushing it to a space, hold on to the bottle, then ring us from there. Our equipment is explosion-proof and fine on a live forecourt, and so a vehicle that cannot be pushed away gets cleared right at the pump.
AdBlue in the diesel tank at home in The Manor
For days the dash had been nagging you. Bought a container, tipped it in at home, binned the empty — and only then checked the cap a second time, too late. Drives near Manor Park Crescent get it as much as anywhere.
What it means: if you haven't driven since, this is nearly as good as the forecourt. AdBlue does not mix with diesel; it sinks to the bottom of your tank and waits there. Overnight does not change that.
Next: keys in the house, and so nobody takes your car off at breakfast. After that, ring. Manor Park or The Manor: wherever your driveway sits, that is where it is drained. The pumps are quiet enough to use outside a house after dark.
The Manor: drove off with AdBlue in a diesel?
Filled up, pulled away, and before long the motor was running unevenly, smoking, down on power, or lighting up the dash. Manor Lane, perhaps, or the route towards Sheffield — a run of under 3 miles.
The point: the system has pulled AdBlue in by now. It's been through your filter and the fuel lines and, the further you went, into the high-pressure pump and your injectors. It travels deeper with each extra mile covered and every restart.
What to do: pull over where it's safe to do so and switch off. Leave at the next junction — not the services further along — if you're on the M1, under 3 miles from The Manor. Starting it again to test achieves nothing — AdBlue never clears itself. Let us hear the mileage covered when you call.
A hire or company car with AdBlue in the wrong tank?
You have had this car barely a week. Your own car either does without AdBlue or puts it somewhere different, and so no one told you the AdBlue inlet sits just next to your diesel. Throughout South Yorkshire, no one is immune.
The upshot: exactly as above, divided by if it ran, but with an added stage. Any work on your car frequently requires the owner's approval under hire or company agreements.
Your move: rental firm or your fleet manager to begin with, us next, since sorting it beforehand saves time. Leave it off as the reply comes, whether you're parked at Sheffield or near Sheffield Manor Lodge.
The Manor: unsure if it was AdBlue in your diesel tank?
"I think so" is often the most honest as it gets. What cap was taken off, you can't recall; meanwhile the bottle weighs less than it ought to, and a whiff of ammonia hangs by your filler. Maybe at a friend's driveway in Wybourn, or in a rush outside Emmaus Catholic and CofE Primary School at the school run.
The point: your engine is not hurt by a little AdBlue spilled on the outside. If it's inside your diesel tank, though, it does. Any AdBlue in your tank would be drawn in by turning on your car, and the start wouldn't settle which it is in any case.
What to do: treat it as if it was put in. Do not start the car. Describe what you noticed on your phone. A clean tank checked counts as a better outcome than a run one emptied.
What each AdBlue drain in The Manor has in common
Each case has the same start to the work. Wherever your car is — The Manor Castle's car park, a road beside Cow, a drive, a forecourt — the van arrives and we ask for the liquid, the quantity, and whether the engine has been run. The price is given on the call, before a van leaves, and those replies set the job.
AdBlue forms crystals and eats at certain metals in fuel systems, so it does not rinse out unaided; that is why a full flush, after the drain, counts much more here than with petrol. Then is the filter — cleaned, or swapped where needed — then clean diesel, and a test of your vehicle. Where the motor hasn't run, expect roughly half an hour on site, for most jobs.
The last step is starting it. With new diesel in, it runs while we confirm it is running correctly, and then we head off. We do the whole job where the vehicle is, and permanent damage is very rare when it has been spotted early. For your insurer: the engineer's report and the VAT invoice. For you: payment that day, nothing in advance. Dig out your insurance before we're en route: cover for misfuelling comes included in many policies.

Whether your car is on a lay-by on the way to Castle View Park or in a car park in the middle of The Manor, it does not need to move. The van empties it in place. Phone and ask instead of guessing if you are by Skye Edge Social Centre, near a border, or anywhere awkward to explain.
