Trevia: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Find Your Situation
One fact counts above all once AdBlue is in a diesel tank, and it is if the motor has run afterwards. Over in Trefrew or here in Trevia, an unstarted engine must stay that way. Leave the engine and the ignition off and call 0333 366 0103; it's usually a drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is in Trevia. Already started? Stop once safe, then switch it off. Stage one stays unchanged, even though the job is bigger.
Anywhere in Cornwall it took place, one of the cases below matches yours.
AdBlue in a diesel on a Trevia forecourt
The cap you opened was the wrong one — and you just spot it while you're standing at the pump, bottle or nozzle in your hand. Possibly you are at the Valley Truckle Filling Station, possibly at the Gulf, perhaps somewhere else around Trevia.
Put simply: no better spot to be to discover it. Still in the tank, and nothing pulled through: that's where the AdBlue is.
What to do: do not get back in and start the vehicle to clear the petrol pump. Get the attendants to lend a hand rolling it to a space, hold on to the bottle, then ring us right there. Emptying it right at the petrol pump is fine when it can't be moved, since the equipment is explosion-proof.
Trevia, at home: AdBlue in your diesel tank
For days the dashboard had been nagging you. You bought a bottle, poured it in on the drive, and only when you put the empty bottle in the recycling did you look once more at the cap. It takes place on driveways just off Trevia Lane as frequently as anywhere.
Meaning? Provided the car hasn't been driven since, it's second to the forecourt case. AdBlue doesn't mix with diesel; it sinks to the bottom of the tank and waits there. Overnight doesn't change that.
Next: prevent any early move by keeping your keys indoors, then ring us. Our engineers drain the car on your drive, whether that's around Trevia or out in Camelford. Night-time empties beside a house are fine: the pumps are quiet.
Trevia: drove off with AdBlue in a diesel?
Lumpy running, smoke, lost power or a glowing dashboard arrived a mile or two beyond the top-up. Sportsmans Road, say, or the route towards Truro — a run of under 50 miles.
What it means: the system has pulled the AdBlue in. The high-pressure pump and each injector see it as well on a longer trip, once the fuel filter and pipework have had it. It goes further with every mile driven and every restart.
Next: pick a sensible spot, pull in, then turn the engine off. On the M5, over 50 miles from Trevia, that means the next exit, not the services further on. It won't have cleared, and so there's no sense restarting to check. Call, saying how far your vehicle was driven.
AdBlue in the wrong tank of a hire, lease or company car
You've had the vehicle barely a week. Unbeknown to you, the AdBlue and diesel fillers are next to each other here — not like your own vehicle, which has none or stores it elsewhere. Any driver, anywhere around Cornwall, might do it.
Meaning? Whatever case above applies too — run or not — plus one extra step. Any work on the car often requires the owner's approval under rental or company agreements.
Settling it before we arrives is quicker, and so ring the rental company or your fleet manager, and then us. Stranded by Souls Harbour Church or at the nearest station until someone answers, the vehicle stays switched off throughout.
Not sure it was AdBlue in your diesel tank, Trevia?
"I think so" is often the most honest answer there is. A slight ammonia-like smell hangs near your filler, the bottle seems too light, and the cap you took off is a blur. Possibly it happened in a hurry at the school gates at Camelford Community Primary School, or on a friend's drive in Tramagenna.
Put simply: a spill round your filler leaves the motor unharmed. Inside the diesel tank, however, AdBlue damages it. Firing up the car won't tell you which, and if there is AdBlue in the tank it would draw it in.
Your move: act as if it got in, and don't start your motor. Inspecting a tank that turns out free of AdBlue is better than emptying one once it has been run — so phone and describe to us what you saw.
Trevia: what every AdBlue drain has in common
Each situation gets the same opening to the job. Forecourt, drive, Darlington Inn's car park or a street beside Camelford Library — the van reaches your car, and three answers come next: which liquid, what amount, and whether it has run. Replies shape the job; the price comes by phone whilst no one has set off yet.
Emptying your tank comes first, then a careful flush — more important with urea than after petrol, since crystals and corrosion will not clear by themselves, no matter how long it sits. The filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and the car is tested. The majority of unstarted cars are a half-hour job after the moment our technicians turn up.
Our engineers start the car last. With clean diesel in, it runs while our technicians make sure it's running correctly, and then we head off. Long-term damage is very unusual when it is noticed soon, and the entire job is done where your car is. Nothing is taken upfront, settlement is made on the day, and you get what your insurer asks for: an engineer report plus a VAT invoice. Worth knowing: lots of insurers include misfuelling cover, so a quick look at your policy as we travel is worthwhile.
About Trevia
Trevia is a small hamlet situated on the riverside in Cornwall, with a relatively high elevation of 202 metres. Trevia lies near the towns of Camelford and Truro, and is surrounded by other small settlements like Valley Truckle and Trewen. Trevia and Cornwall: AdBlue drains across the area
Valley Truckle and Trewen get the same vans as Trevia, a rural hamlet, plus further places throughout PL postcodes. A postcode starting PL32 9 is the quickest way to tell us where you are.
Central Trevia or a layby near Tregath Wood: either way it is, the vehicle never needs to shift at all for the drain. Draining happens on the spot. Phone and ask rather than guess if you are close to Camelford Methodist Church, on a border, or somewhere awkward to explain.
Your scenario, summed up
Where it has not run, phone and leave it that way. Run already: pull over, switch down, ring 0333 366 0103. Petrol in Diesel handles the remainder, in Trevia or wherever across Cornwall.
