AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Warmley Tower: What Now?

All of it hinges on one fact: if your engine has started after the AdBlue went in — far more than anything else. Anywhere the car is — Cowhorn Hill, Warmley Tower — don't run an engine that has not been started yet. Leave the engine and the ignition off and phone 0333 366 0103; it is normally a drain and a thorough flush, done where your car is around Warmley Tower. If it has run, stop as soon as it is safe then switch off. Step one stays the same, even though the work grows.

Below: the cases our engineers meet, anywhere in Gloucestershire. Choose the one that fits.

On a Warmley Tower forecourt with AdBlue in a diesel

You are at the pump, the nozzle or the bottle still in your hand, and you have just noticed the cap you opened was the wrong one. Whether Esso, Asda or somewhere else in Warmley Tower, the case is identical.

The upshot: of every spot to notice, the forecourt is the best. Only your tank holds AdBlue; not one part beyond it has taken it in.

Next: avoid the temptation to fire it up only to move away from the pump. A few things: a shove into a bay with the staff assisting, the receipt saved, and a ring to us from the forecourt. The equipment is explosion-proof and safe on a live forecourt, and so a vehicle that cannot be pushed clear gets drained where it is at the petrol pump.

AdBlue in the diesel tank at home around Warmley Tower

Days had gone by with the dash light on. A bottle bought at the shop, emptied in at the drive — and it's only by the recycling that the cap got a second look. It happens on drives just off Hazelbury Drive as often as anywhere.

The upshot: zero miles since leaves this almost equal to spotting it at the petrol pump. Diesel and AdBlue keep apart: the AdBlue settles to the base of that tank and stays put, no matter how long it waits.

What to do: leave your keys inside the house so nobody moves the vehicle in the morning. Then call. We drain the car on your driveway, whether that is in Warmley Tower or out in North Common. Our pumping kit runs quiet enough not to disturb the neighbours at night.

AdBlue in a diesel and already driving in Warmley Tower?

Rough running, smoke, lost power or a glowing dashboard arrived a mile or two after the top-up. Anywhere along Albany Way or else heading to Bristol — under 10 miles away.

Put simply: the AdBlue has been pulled into the system. Past the filter, along the pipework, and — the more the mileage — deeper into the injection pump and each injector. More miles, more restarts: further it travels.

Do this: stop somewhere safe, then turn your motor off. On the M4, under 5 miles from Warmley Tower, that means the next junction, not the services further on. It will not have cleared, and so there is no point starting it again to find out. Tell us hear the mileage driven when you call.

A hire or company car with AdBlue in the wrong tank?

It is a motor you have had for a week. The AdBlue filler sits right beside the diesel filler, which you did not know, because your own car either has no AdBlue or keeps it somewhere else. It can happen to anyone, anywhere around Gloucestershire.

The upshot: just as above, split by if it ran, but with one added stage. Plenty of hire and company agreements want the owner to approve work on the car.

Next: ring the hire company or your fleet manager first, then us — sorting it before we arrive is quicker. Waiting for an answer at the car park at Keynsham, or beside Mill Lane Independent Methodist Church? Keep your engine off meanwhile.

AdBlue in your diesel tank? Not sure, in Warmley Tower

Now and then, "I think so" is all anyone can honestly say. Which cap was taken off, you can't recall; but the bottle feels lighter than it ought to, and ammonia lingers by the filler. A rushed top-up by the gates of St Barnabas Church of England Primary School, or a call to a friend in Oldland Common: both fit.

Meaning? Drips around the filler never touch the motor at all. The diesel tank with AdBlue inside is another matter. Any AdBlue in the tank will be drawn in by starting the car, and the start wouldn't settle which it is in any case.

Your move: behave as if it did, and don't start the motor. Ring us and describe what you saw; we'd rather check a tank that turns out free of AdBlue than drain one that has already been run.

Every AdBlue drain around Warmley Tower shares these stages

The work opens identically, whichever your case. Forecourt, drive, King William The Fourth's car park or a street by The Batch Community Centre — the van reaches your car, and three answers come next: which liquid, what amount, and whether it has run. Answers set the work; the quote comes by phone whilst no one has set off yet.

AdBlue forms crystals and eats at certain metals in fuel systems, so it does not wash out on its own; that is why the flush, after this drain, counts much more here than with petrol. Fresh diesel goes in once the fuel filter has been cleaned or replaced, and your car is then checked. If your motor hasn't run, most jobs take about half an hour once we are there.

The final step is firing it up. Before we leave, it's checked to confirm it runs correctly on fresh diesel. The entire job is done where your car is, and if it is caught quickly, lasting damage is very unusual. For your insurer: an engineer's report and the VAT invoice. For you: payment that day, nothing upfront. Many insurance policies cover misfuelling, and so check yours as we head over.

Whether the car is on a lay-by on the way to Tarzan Park or in a car park in the middle of Warmley Tower, it doesn't need to move. The van empties it where it stands. Ring and ask rather than guess if you're by Kingswood Heritage Museum, on a boundary, or anywhere tricky to pin down.
