Wem: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Find Your Situation
What to do about AdBlue in a diesel tank comes down to one thing more than any other: if your engine has been run since it got in. If it hasn't, keep it that way, whether the vehicle is in Wem itself or out in Creamore Bank. Leave the motor and your ignition off then call 0333 366 0103; it is generally a drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is in Wem. Where your engine has run, pull in somewhere safe first, then switch the car off. A bigger job, then, but the identical opening move.
Further down: the situations our technicians meet, wherever in Shropshire. Pick yours.
On a Wem forecourt with AdBlue in a diesel
Only at this point, nozzle yet in hand, it dawns on you that the cap you took off was the wrong one, there at the petrol pump. It might be the Valero, or perhaps the another forecourt nearby, or a different forecourt in Wem.
What it means: this is the ideal place to find out. Only your tank has AdBlue; no component past it has drawn any in.
Next: resist the temptation to fire it up just to free up the petrol pump. Three things: a shove into a space with the staff helping, the bottle saved, and a call to us from where you stand. The equipment is explosion-proof and safe on a busy forecourt, and so a vehicle that cannot be pushed away is drained right at the pump.
AdBlue in the diesel tank at home around Wem
For days the dash had been warning you. Picked up a bottle, poured it in outside the house, recycled the empty — and at that point looked at the cap a second time, too late. Houses just off Leek Street are caught out as often as everywhere else.
The upshot: zero miles since leaves this almost equal to spotting it at the petrol pump. Diesel and AdBlue stay apart: the AdBlue drops to the floor of the tank and remains there, no matter how long the night.
What to do: leave your keys inside the house so nobody moves your car in the morning. Then ring. Out in Tilley or here around Wem, the draining is done on your drive. The pumps are quiet enough to use outside a house at night.
AdBlue in a diesel and already driving in Wem?
You filled up, set off, and a mile or two later your motor began to run roughly, smoke, lose power or light up the dashboard. Noble Street, perhaps, or the route towards Wrexham — a run of under 25 miles.
Meaning? The pump has sucked the AdBlue up. The high-pressure pump and each injector get it too on a longer trip, after your filter and lines have it. Each mile and each restart takes it further.
Stop somewhere safe — that's the next job — then switch it off. Service stations farther on are too far: from the M54, under 15 miles out of Wem, take the next junction. No test starts: clearing itself isn't something AdBlue will do. Ring us and say how far you drove.
Hire, lease or company car with AdBlue in the wrong tank
It is a motor you have had for a week. On your own car, AdBlue is missing or elsewhere. On this one, its cap is just next to your diesel inlet — a surprise to you. Wherever you happen to be across Shropshire, any driver can be caught.
Put simply: one extra step on top of the situations above, which turn on if it's run. Plenty of hire and company contracts need the owner's approval for work.
What to do: call the hire firm or your fleet manager first, then us. That's quicker settled before our engineers get there than after. Stuck by Wem Town Hall or at the nearest station until the firm replies, the car remains switched off the whole time.
Unsure about AdBlue in the diesel tank in Wem?
Now and then, "I think so" is the most anyone can honestly say. Too light, that bottle; a hint of ammonia round your filler; a hazy memory of the cap. Sound familiar? A rushed top-up by the gates of St Peter's CofE Primary School, or a call to a friend in Ruewood: both fits.
In short: spillage round your filler does your engine unharmed. AdBlue inside the diesel tank does. Turning on the car cannot tell you which, and if there is AdBlue in the tank it will suck it in.
Assume it was put in, and never start the key. Describe what you noticed on your phone. A clear tank looked at counts as a happier result than an already-run one emptied.
Wem: what every AdBlue drain has in common
Whatever the case, a single opening is used. Our engineers come to the car, whether it is on a forecourt, a drive, the car park at The Castle or a side street near Wem Library, and ask three things: what got in, about how much, and whether the engine has run. Answers shape the work; the quote follows on the call whilst no one has left yet.
Then your tank is cleared and your system purged thoroughly, which matters more with AdBlue than with petrol: AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it doesn't rinse out on its own. The filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; fresh diesel goes in; and the vehicle is tested. The majority of unstarted vehicles are a half-hour visit after the moment our technicians turn up.
We fire it up last. Our check that it runs correctly on new diesel comes before we go. We do the whole job where your car is, and long-term damage is very rare when it has been noticed quickly. You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer. Many insurance policies include misfuelling cover, and so it's worth checking yours whilst we're on the way.

AdBlue drains in Wem, and across Shropshire too
Wem is a riverside town, and the same vans that cover it work the places around it too, Tilley Green and Barkers Green among them, across the SY postcode area. Your whereabouts comes clearest from a postcode beginning SY4 5.
Stopped en route to Incredible Edibles, or bang in the centre of Wem, the vehicle stays where it is — there's no need to shift it anywhere. The van empties it where it stands. If you're somewhere hard to explain, close to Wem Youth Club or close to a border, ring and ask instead of assuming.
In one line: your scenario
Still unrun? Leave the car that way then ring. Run by now: pull over, power down, ring 0333 366 0103. Petrol in Diesel takes over the rest, in Wem or wherever across Shropshire.
