AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Westlands? Don't Start It

Engine off, ignition off: that's where you begin if AdBlue has gone into your diesel tank. AdBlue is urea mixed in water. The trouble starts once it is pulled through your pump — it will not ignite, and it will not blend with diesel. A drain and a thorough flush, done where your car is in Westlands, is usually what AdBlue in a diesel tank takes — if it's caught before your motor has been run. Before you do anything else, phone 0333 366 0103.

Westlands, AdBlue in your diesel tank: what to do straight away

To do:

  • Pull your keys out, and so nobody switches your ignition on.
  • If you're at all close to moving traffic, put the hazards on.
  • Hold on to the receipt or the empty bottle, and so you can tell us what was put in and roughly how much.
  • Call just where you are. Say a WR9 9 postcode or the nearest street sign, and no one has to search for you.

Never:

  • No starting your engine — not briefly, not to shift your vehicle.
  • Your ignition stays off: on lots of diesels, turning it on is enough to run your pump.
  • AdBlue doesn't dilute in diesel — it separates out — so adding extra fuel won't weaken it.
  • Keep it where it is instead of driving it anywhere, even a short distance along Farmers Way.
  • Emptying your tank on your own by the road is not one to try.

At a forecourt in Westlands, whether it is the Valero or another one, ask the attendants to help you push the car clear of the petrol pump. Parked on your own driveway? Then it stays just as it is.

AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

Not the engine but the exhaust is where AdBlue belongs. Its own tank holds it, and from there it's fed into your exhaust, and there it cleans the fumes. Neither side fits the other: urea does not belong in a pump, and an injection pump cannot deal with urea.

Fuel blends; AdBlue, once poured in, will not. Its behaviour is not at all like fuel's. The intake sucks fuel from the lowest part of your tank, and that's precisely where AdBlue settles: being heavier than diesel, it sinks. Simplest of all: a vehicle that got AdBlue in Newtown overnight and hasn't been started since. The liquid sits at the base of that tank, untouched — but it will be the first thing through if the motor starts, before any diesel at all.

After it's drawn in, the harm comes in two forms. What is left when the water goes is urea, which turns into crystals: they settle in tiny channels and block filters. On top of that, it attacks certain metals in the fuel system, and carries on until it is flushed out. A vehicle left standing around Westlands with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue just in its tank isn't. Diesel protects the injection pump and every injector as it passes; water gives none of that, which is a second form of damage.

Draining AdBlue from a diesel tank in Westlands

Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is regularly worse

Petrol put into a diesel on Sainsbury's's forecourt makes the fuel thin — that is the main problem. Blended into the diesel and sitting still, it is harmless at that stage; using your motor is the damage.

AdBlue in a diesel is an issue of the wrong substance altogether. Not burning, it can't simply be run through. Nor can it be watered down, because it splits back out — and the following fill will not rinse away crystals or corrosion. So the flush counts more here, and trying your engine "to see", in the heart of Westlands or out in Netherwich, costs more than nearly any other mistake.

As with petrol, there is good news. Never run? Then the AdBlue sits only inside your tank, the easiest section of the whole system to clear, wherever the vehicle has come to rest in Worcestershire.

How does AdBlue end up in a diesel tank around Westlands?

Nobody means to do it. The AdBlue filler on many motors rests right next to the diesel filler, at times under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light. A bottle bought while driving home and poured in at home, rather than at the filling station, is the usual route.

It tends to occur in a couple of familiar ways. Rushing, outside Westlands First School, after a warning lamp flashed on during the school run, a parent tops up the vehicle. Near Coppice Close, someone tips a container in on that drive in the evening. Another version: darkness, the car park outside Railway Inn, and someone using that flap the first time.

Hired vehicles, brand-new vehicles, fleet motors, or the second vehicle in a home with both fuels: the least known cars get it most. Wherever you are in Westlands or the rest of Worcestershire, it's the same slip and the same first answer: leave the vehicle off.

Westlands: started the engine with AdBlue in the diesel tank?

Then the AdBlue has left that tank. Via your filter, along the pipework, and — with any running — on to the high-pressure pump and each injector: that is how far it has gone.

You may notice your motor running roughly, smoking, losing power, showing warning lights or cutting out, possibly on the way back from Boycott Wood or halfway across Westlands. Pull over when it is safe. Turn off. Leave the car off rather than restarting it to check. More of it is pulled through with each start.

Leave the M5, under 3 miles from Westlands, by the next junction and park safely, not carrying on.

Every mile pushes the AdBlue further into the system. That is why crossing Westlands to park near Westlands Community Centre and a drive of under 10 miles towards Worcester are very separate jobs. Let us know about how far it had come.

Our engineers do all of the cleaning where the car has ended up, and once the engine has run there is more of it. Caught soon, it very seldom leaves lasting damage.

Westlands: how AdBlue is cleared from a diesel

A road beside Droitwich Spa Lesiure Centre, a drive, a layby or a filling station: anywhere your car has come to rest around Westlands, our engineers travel to it. Before anything else our engineers ask what was put in, roughly how much, and whether your motor has been run, because those replies decide the work.

Next, emptying your tank right there takes out the polluted diesel along with the AdBlue together. With AdBlue, more so than with petrol, flushing matters: the fuel system is cleaned right through because residue will not wash out unaided. Testing your vehicle comes at the end, after fresh diesel goes in and the fuel filter gets flushed or, where necessary, replaced. About half an hour on site is typical for most jobs when your motor has not run. Our pumping gear is explosion-proof, so a busy filling station is no issue, and it's hushed enough for a residential street after dark.

The final step is to bleed your system on new diesel. Firing it up comes next, and then you set off from where your car is parked, by Droitwich Spa or on a drive in Westlands. It is tested on new diesel to confirm it runs smoothly before our engineers head off. The entire job is done where the vehicle is, so it never has to be taken to a workshop. The insurer will want an engineer's report and your VAT invoice — both yours once the job is done.

What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out around Westlands?

Each job is different, and so not one fixed quote would be fair. Three things change the price: whether the motor has been running and for how long, how much AdBlue got in, and where the car is. That last one turns on whether a technician can get to it safely, and an open drive is simpler than a tight spot behind The Salvation Army - Droitwich.

Before any figure, never after, every enquiry from Westlands begins with the same three checks: the fuel, the amount, plus if the engine ran. The answers turn a range into a straight quote.

Our quote is quoted on the call, before anyone sets off; payment happens on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront. While our engineer is on the way, check your policy: plenty include misfuelling.
