AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Wolvey, and What to Do Next

Has your motor run since the AdBlue was put in? That single question decides almost everything else from here. Wherever the car is — Bramcote Mains, Wolvey — don't run a motor that has not run yet. Leave the motor and your ignition off then call 0333 366 0103; it's usually a drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is in Wolvey. Stop the minute it is safe and turn off, if it has been run. It's a larger job, though step one doesn't change.

Below: the cases our engineers see, wherever in Warwickshire. Choose the one that fits.

Wolvey forecourt: AdBlue in a diesel at the pump

The cap you opened was the wrong one — and you just notice it as you are standing at the pump, bottle or the nozzle in your hand. Maybe you are at the Esso, perhaps at the another forecourt nearby, possibly somewhere else around Wolvey.

Put simply: no better spot to be to discover it. Just the tank holds AdBlue; no part past it has drawn it in.

Next: avoid the urge to start it just to free up the petrol pump. Get the attendants to help rolling it into a space, save the bottle, then phone us from there. If it can't be moved, it can be emptied at the pump: the equipment is explosion-proof and fine on a busy forecourt.

At home around Wolvey with AdBlue in your diesel tank

For days the dashboard had been nagging you. You bought a bottle, poured it in on the driveway, and only when you put the empty bottle in the recycling did you look a second time at the cap. Homes just off Hall Road get caught out as much as anywhere else.

In short: if the car hasn't moved since, it's nearly equal to spotting it at the forecourt. Diesel and AdBlue stay apart: the AdBlue settles to the base of the tank and stays there, however long the night.

Next: the keys indoors, so no one takes the car off at breakfast. After that, ring. Your drive is where it gets drained, whether around Wolvey or Wolvey Heath. The equipment runs quiet enough not to disturb the neighbours at night.

AdBlue drain on a forecourt in Wolvey

AdBlue in a diesel and already driving around Wolvey?

Rough running, smoke, falling power or a glowing dashboard started a short way after the fill. The Square, say, or the way towards Coventry — a trip of under 10 miles.

The upshot: your system has drawn AdBlue through by now. The high-pressure pump and every injector see it as well on a bigger run, after your filter and lines have it. Each mile and each restart takes it further.

Pull in safely — that is the first step — then switch it off. Service stations further on are too far: from the M69, under a mile out of Wolvey, use the next junction. Starting it again to test achieves nothing — AdBlue never clears itself. Phone us and say how far you went.

A hire or company car with AdBlue in the wrong tank?

It's a vehicle you have had for a week. On your own vehicle, AdBlue is missing or somewhere else. On this one, the cap is just next to your diesel cap — news to you. Any driver, anywhere across Warwickshire, might do the same.

What it means: the same as the situations above, depending on whether it has run, with one more step. The owner frequently needs to sign off the work, under plenty of rental and fleet contracts.

Do this: rental firm or fleet manager to begin with, us second, since sorting it beforehand saves time. Waiting for an answer in the car park outside Hinckley, or near Wolvey Village Hall? Keep the engine off throughout.

AdBlue in the diesel tank? Not sure, in Wolvey

Now and then, "I think so" is the most you can honestly say. A faint ammonia-like smell hangs around your filler, the bottle seems too light, and which cap came off is hard to recall. Maybe at a friend's driveway in Bramcote, or in a rush by Wolvey CofE Primary School on the school run.

Meaning? Spills outside the inlet don't touch the motor at all. If it is inside your diesel tank, though, it does. Turning on the vehicle will not tell you which, and if there is AdBlue in that tank it would draw it in.

Do this: act as though it got in, and never start your motor. Call us and describe what you saw; we would rather check a tank that turns out clean than drain one that has already been run.

Every AdBlue drain around Wolvey shares these steps

Every situation gets the same opening to the job. We come to your car, whether it is at a forecourt, a driveway, the car park at The Blue Pig or a side street close to St John Baptist, and ask three things: what was put in, roughly how much, and if the motor has run. Answers shape the job; the price comes by phone while no one has left yet.

AdBlue forms crystals and eats at some metals in fuel systems, so it won't wash out on its own; that is why the flush, after the drain, matters much more with AdBlue than with petrol. The filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; fresh diesel goes in; and the car is tested. Not started? In that case about half an hour on site covers most jobs.

Finally, our engineers start the car. With fresh diesel in, it runs while our engineers confirm it's running smoothly, and then we leave. We do the entire job where the vehicle is, and long-term damage is very uncommon if it has been spotted early. Paying is that day, never in advance. For your insurer, you get a VAT invoice plus a report from the engineer. Many insurance policies include misfuelling cover, so it is worth checking yours whilst we're on the way.

Wolvey and Warwickshire: AdBlue drains across the area

Shelford and Copston Magna have the identical teams as Wolvey, a village, along with further towns throughout LE postcodes. A postcode starting LE10 3 is the quickest way to tell us where you are.

Whether your car is on a lay-by on the way to Wolvey Wetland Reserve or in a car park in the middle of Wolvey, it does not need to shift. Where it sits, that's where it gets cleared. Guessing won't help near St John, close to a county line or somewhere hard to pin down; ring and ask.
