AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Zeals, and What to Do Next

One thing matters above all when AdBlue is in a diesel tank, and that is whether your engine has run since. Not started so far? Then leave it like that, wherever the car sits — Zeals or Bourton. Leave your engine and your ignition off then phone 0333 366 0103; it is generally a drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is in Zeals. If it's run, stop as soon as it is safe then switch off. The job is bigger, but the first stage is the same.

Anywhere across Wiltshire it took place, one of the cases below fits yours.

At the petrol pump around Zeals: AdBlue in a diesel

Only now, bottle still in hand, it dawns on you that the cap you opened was the wrong one, right at the pump. Whether Gulf, Esso or anywhere else in Zeals, the case is identical.

In short: there is no better place exists to spot it. No pump has pulled it through, and so the AdBlue sits just in the tank.

Next: resist the urge to fire it up just to move away from the petrol pump. Have the attendants to help rolling it to a space, hold on to the bottle, then ring us right there. Emptying it right at the pump is fine when it cannot be shifted, since the equipment is explosion-proof.

At home in Zeals with AdBlue in the diesel tank

Several days had gone by with the warning light on. A bottle from the garage, tipped in at the drive — and it's just by the recycling that the cap caught a second look. Right off Chapel Lane is no different from any other place.

Put simply: if your car hasn't been driven since, it is nearly equal to finding out at the forecourt. At the bottom of the tank sits exactly where AdBlue stays, because it will not mix with diesel — and a night going by makes no difference.

Next: stop any early-morning drive by keeping your keys in the house, then phone us. Your driveway is where it is drained, whether around Zeals or Wolverton. Our equipment works quiet enough not to disturb the street at night.

Drove off with AdBlue in a diesel in Zeals?

Filled up, drove away, and soon your engine was running unevenly, smoking, down on power, or lighting up the dash. Perhaps it was on New Road, maybe on the way out towards Wells, under 25 miles away.

What it means: the system has drawn the AdBlue in. Distance sets how far it gets: filter and lines first, then the injection pump and every injector. More miles, more restarts: deeper it travels.

Do this: pull up somewhere sensible, then turn the motor off. On the M32, under 50 miles from Zeals, that means the next junction, not the services further on. Don't restart the car to see if it has cleared; it will not have. Tell us know the mileage driven as you call.

AdBlue in the wrong tank: hire, lease and company cars

It is a vehicle you have had for a week. Your own vehicle either has no AdBlue or puts it somewhere different, and so nothing warned you the AdBlue cap sits just beside the diesel. Anywhere you happen to be in Wiltshire, any driver can be caught.

In short: one extra step on top of the situations above, which turn on if it's run. Plenty of hire and company agreements want the owner to approve work on the vehicle.

Sorting it before we arrives is faster, so ring the rental company or your fleet manager, and then us. Waiting for a reply in the car park at Gillingham (Dorset), or near St Martin? Keep the engine off throughout.

Unsure about AdBlue in your diesel tank in Zeals?

Truthfully, the only answer may be that you think it did. Which cap was taken off, you cannot recall; but the bottle weighs less than it ought to, and a whiff of ammonia lingers by the filler. A rushed stop by the gates of Whitesheet Church of England Primary Academy, or a visit to a friend in Queen Oak: either fits.

What it means: a little spilled round the filler does no damage to your motor. In your diesel tank, by contrast, AdBlue damages it. If there is AdBlue in your tank, starting the car will suck it in, and it would not tell you which either.

Next: act as though it got in, and leave your motor off. Ring us and describe what you saw; we would rather check a tank that turns out clean than drain one that has already been run.

Each AdBlue drain around Zeals shares these stages

The job begins the same way, whatever your situation. Wherever your vehicle is — Bell & Crown's car park, a road by Visit Hillbrush, a driveway, a filling station — our van gets there and asks about the liquid, the quantity, and whether your engine has turned over. Your price comes on the call, ahead of anyone setting off, and those replies shape the work.

Then the tank is emptied and the system flushed thoroughly, which matters more with AdBlue than with petrol: AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, so it does not rinse out on its own. Last come the fuel filter, flushed or renewed if necessary; fresh diesel; and a check of the car. If the motor hasn't run, most jobs take about half an hour once we're there.

Starting the car comes last. Our test that it runs smoothly on new diesel comes before our technicians go. Lasting damage is very unusual when it's caught quickly, and the entire job is done where your car is. For your insurer: the engineer's report and the VAT invoice. For you: payment on the day, no money upfront. Dig out your insurance before we're en route: cover for misfuelling comes built into many policies.

AdBlue drains across Wiltshire, Zeals included

Zeals is a rural village, and the same teams that cover it work the places near it too, Zeals Row and White Cross among them, across the BA postcode area. A postcode starting BA12 6 is the quickest way to tell us where you are.

Centre of Zeals or a lay-by near Top Wood: wherever it is, the vehicle never needs to shift at all for this drain. Wherever it stands, that's where it is drained. Assuming won't help beside St George, close to a border or somewhere awkward to pin down; ring and ask.
